Running Scared

Nick sat in the back row of the church. There was no service today but that served Nick ok.
He felt not quite right being in a church as opposed to a cathedral.
Nick had always felt a little at odds with himself. He was raised as a Catholic when he had lived in Ireland as a child. But since moving to "The City", and for a little while before, he found himself doing things that no Catholic should do.
He had been killing, stealing, practicing homosexuality. Lying, cheating, having pre-marital sex. Drinking, parting, doing drugs. You name it, and if he isn't supposed to do it, he has.
Because of this, Nick hadn't been going to church, or confession.
But as of late, he had this feeling in the back of his mind, like there was something that he needed to be doing, or like someone was watching him.
He figured it was guilt for forsaking his religion. He wasn't sure what else it could be.
There was no Catholic cathedral in "The City" though, so Nick had to make do with the church.
He was kneeling and praying, in the afternoon, when he heard someone else come into the church and sit beside him.

He didn't know why but there was something about churches that gave Shadow a painful shiver down the spine. Nevertheless he had decided to go into this one just for a little look around. Just to live up to his curious nature. Stepping in the church he observed the holy building with some kind of disgust and yet some respect for the place. He wasn't holy himself but he did respect the religions even if he had no time for them himself.

Dressed in a tight military jacket and matching trousers he resembled anything but holy especially with the thick layer of black eyeliner under his already darkened eyes. This city had changed him ever so much and he was slowly getting used to their ways. It was so different here then in Italy. In Italy he hadn't been the mysterious one, no just the completlely open bisexual one.

His thoughts were completely erased from his mind as he strolled down the aisle and towards the pews at the front. There was a single figure at the front, kneeling none the less and he was curious once again. He kneeled next to the guy and glanced towards him softly.

"Afternoon"

Nick looked to his left, an eyebrow slightly raised.
"Afternoon," his Irish accent strong in his speech, "I belive I have seen you around. But never in here."
Nick sat up a bit and turned more toward the other guy.
"Nikolas Frost."
Nick belived that the other male was a member of his gang, but with how much he moved around the city, it was hard for him to remember faces if he didn't know the names.

"I'm not one of those social butterflies. I like to keep my head down and all, besides i'm not actually religious but today is an exception.I need some guidance concerning my...life"

A little smile graced his thin pink lips as he spoke. He didn't know why he told this stranger about why he was here but maybe it was a good thing that he was letting his feelings out. It might be able to heal his soul a little. The name finally registered in Shadow's mind and she smiled a little more broadly at that thought. At least he knew they were in the same gang.

"Ah Nicholas Frost. I've heard of you but i haven't had the pleasure of meeting you....until now. I'm Shadow Rainer"

Extending his hand he reached out and offered it to Nicholas wondering if he would shake it or not.

Nick smiled a bit and shook Shadow's hand. He got up off his knees and sat on the bench.
"Of course, I believe I know your sister."
Nick was joking of course, everyone knew _______ Rainer, she was one of the three leaders of the gang.
"Oh, and you can call me Nick. Nikolas always sounds so stiff to me."
Nick settled back against the bench. He appeared to be at ease, but he was really just judging the other guy; like he does with all new people. If Shadow were to remain kneeling, it would show that he was one type of person. If he got up and sat beside Nick, it would show that he was another kind of person.
Either way Nick would still talk with him, he just wanted to know what kind of person he was talking to.
Nick thickened up his accent, humor playing in his eyes.
"Well, my son. I don't know how much guidance I can offer on this fine afternoon. But maybe, you will leave a little lighter of heart and mind, and a little heavier in joy and the holy trinity."
This too was another test. It was something the fathers had always said to him in Ireland, and he had always wanted to make fun of them for it.

Shadow rolled his eyes softly. Of course everyone knew his younger sister but most of the time no one suspected that he was her older brother. Most thought that they had the same surname and that they were not related so a part of him was actually refreshed that Nick knew who he was. Seeing Nick stand up instantly drove into Shadow's mind that maybe he should stand up too.

"Yeah, my sister, well everyone knows her. I'm less known of"

Moving from his kneeling position he joined Nick on one of the benches, extending his arm over the back of the pews silently. His dark eyes once again observed Nick in a quick notion, just trying to figure him out a little bit.

"Yes i might i hope. I need a little godly guidance in my life. It could help me figure out what i'm going to do with my life"

Nick grinned a real grin and gestured around the church.
“No better place to find God. Except maybe in a cathedral. Unfortunately, there isn’t one of those in this city, so I make do with this church.”
Nick looked off into a window, his focus not on anything in particular. His mind wandered around, thinking about random things.
Finally after a while Nick turned back to Shadow.
“What part of your life are you needing help with? Like specific things? Or more general?"

Shrugging softly he moved into his seat to try to get a little bit more comfortable. Schrunching his nose up a little bit he smiled gently thinking about what he was here for in the first place and then he finally realised why. Medrick was the guy that he lusted after even though he was indeed his best friend. He loved him more than anything in this world and he would happily take a bullet for Medrick as he loved him so much.

"My love life actually. It's all pretty confusing"

Nick chuckled slightly.
“Yeah, I have a few problems with that myself.”
It was difficult to be raised in a religion that made you believe one thing and than live your life in a completely different way. If his mum and da could see what he was doing with his life, his mum would die, and his dad would roll over in his grave.
“If you want, I have very good ear to tell things to, and a good mind to analyze it and pass out advice. Of course, I know you’ve just met me but..” Nick shrugged one shoulder., “Just trying to help.”
