Erm. Not to sound stupid or anything.

But why not use this forum? Why move off to LJ?

Well, I suppose anyone could view here, but since we're mainly geared towards writers and betas, not many people come here. We could post a link on Torchwood, I suppose. But, I'm not sure how to work this and I don't think the mods here want anymore responsibility. ::shrug:: Just guessing.

I would say for flist compatibility. And because this board is not invite-only, in the end, so I can't really section off a part of it for that.

True that, I just figured if there was talk of it being a closed-comm, then there'd be an option that it could just be held here, under a 'members only' type of thread.

As far as the mod'ing goes - don't know if they want to add anyone else but I've seen in other forums where certain things are divvied up a bit in re: to mod duties to lighten the overall duty on the head mods.

ie the mod(s) of a 'rec' thread wouldn't necessarily have to be our dearly beloved (and busy busy!) mods. *g*

But, I don't know how this board works in general - I've never used it before to know if that's even possible. And then totally up to the head honchos if they wanted to go that route. I'd be willing to help if they wanted tho! Or in general - I do like the idea of reviewing/rec'ing fics/authors.

I think the idea that it would be closed to posters but viewable to everyone. And there's zero searchability here, which would become a big problem very quickly.

However, I *don't* think we'd have a problem with having an editor's forum here (correct me if you disagree, demotu), for talking to each other about recs, et al -- the general business of running your comm.

ETA: I don't mean to imply that participation in this forum automatically qualifies a person to be an editor in your comm. Obviously, you start it, you choose the editors.

Now that sounds like an idea - I think most of us here have proved ourselves to be seriously about our own and others' writing, and we all know the things that made a bad!fic truly bad. I think that we would be a very good quality control filter.

The only problem would be letting new readers know about the resource, particularly if they had only just discovered LJ.

I'd be so on board. I am so, so sick of wading through crap on jackxianto and the others in order to find a few decent fics a week.

That's the downside of shows like TW growing more popular. When I first got into the fandom about a year ago or more, most of the fic being produced was good quality stuff - I don't know where half of those authors have gone sad.gif

If I have to read one more fic of Ianto storming off in a huff because mean Jack won't pay attention to him or just wants him for his body or even worse, them getting married and being domestic, or worst of all, impossible body origami, then I'll... I'll... I don't know, but I'll do something.

I don't think the only focus would have to be on "new" stuff, either, because, like you say, it would be nice to have a central place, that's, as jbs says, WELL tagged (hey, we should use one of the styles that can have multi-level tags, if possible, like mixit or expressive, I think. So you could have pairing, and then all the different pairings, and the tag list would have it indented but the tag itself would be pairing:jack/ianto) that has ALL the good fic (or as all as we can make it).

I'm looking, but haven't figured it out yet. It would be like the tagging torch_wood uses. Good idea, I just have to figure it out. I'm determined to get some more work done on my story tonight.

Also, I love the idea jbs-teeth had for having an editor's forum here to handle the business of running the comm. Discussing authors for the authors section and fighting out disagreements (kidding, kidding). tongue.gif

A comm is definitely better structured to handle recs, what with having tags and the like. I'd be all up for opening a member-restricted section of the board (i.e. restricted to certain members) to discuss things like "do we tag for mpreg or for pregnant!Jack and pregnant!Ianto?" and whether or not a fic should be recced.

Okay, I completely spaced out tags. *Well-crafted* tags. And that makes sense in LJ-land.

If you want any help, let me know!

If you know more about crafting LJ pages than I do, not hard, I'd love the help. My answer is to look for a book this weekend. Don't laugh. I've self taught myself most of the programs I've used in my life this way. tongue.gif Help and advice is preferable.

So if, in theory, jbs or I start up this section of the board (we haven't talked about it yet, but it was her idea and I'm cool with it), who should I add on initially? Thad, sarcasticchick, who else?
