Name: Marcus Gallagher Hoyt Fairmont Nickname: A few longtime friends get away with “Monty” Age: 27 Date of Birth: May 13, 1783 Title: Marquess of Foxford (Ireland)
FAMILY Father: [deceased] Fergal Fairmont, Marquess of Foxford (b. 1755, d. 1808) Mother: Camilla Elizabeth Fairmont, nee Astor (b. 1765) Sister: Rosalind Fairmont (b.1790) Sister: Jemima Fairmont (b. 1793)
BACKGROUND Marcus was born in country Ireland and educated at one of the country’s most prestigious schools, Middleton Boys College, before studying (if one uses the term loosely) at Trinity College in Dublin.
His father was Irish through and through and, growing up, could not have foreseen any possible reason to venture from his beloved green homeland. However, fate can be perverse. When his political duties called him London, the young Marquess almost instantly lost his heart to a pretty Englishwoman whose passion for the city matched his for the country. They were married and raised three children between two countries: spending The Season in London every year was mandatory, as was returning to Ireland as the leaves begun to fall. After his father died three years ago, his mother – heartbroken - refused to return to Ireland and spends her time in London and Bath, with his youngest sister Jemima. Marcus and his other sister, Rosalind, still crisscross the Irish Sea regularly.
Marcus is not naturally inclined to academia. Though he speaks Latin, French and Gaelic, his real aptitudes lie in the arenas of making friends, playing cricket and beating his friends/fellow gamblers at any and all card games. Despite lacking the patience and organisation for study, he has a bright mind and this shows in his skilful management of the family estate and business. He is a regular at White’s where he steadfastly refuses any drink that is not Irish whiskey.
Growing up with two younger sisters means that Marcus is accustomed to the company of ladies and relates easily to members of the fairer sex. That is, until he is interested in them, when he can be prone to humiliating tongue-tied-ness.
His mother (herself from a wealthy English nobility) is desperate to find him a suitable match but he and she violently disagree on what exactly “suitable” means.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION Marcus is undeniably a handsome young man. He inherited his father’s tall, muscular build. His hair refuses to stay neat (much to his mother’s distress) and is a colour that defies description, somewhere between blonde and brown. Throughout the Season he is dressed by Mayfair’s finest tailors but he takes little interest in fashion and can somehow make even the most expensive tailcoat look just a touch dishevelled.
His eyes are a non-descript blue green but, when concentrating or when angry, they darken considerably, his brow furrows and he can give quite the intense stare. This, combined with his powerful build and strong Irish accent, can render Marcus quite intimidating though he himself would find this laughable. Many pick him for an Irishman before he even opens his mouth.
Despite the fact that do not always see eye to eye, Marcus loves his younger sisters very much and would love to see them happily married (not least because he would then have a brother.)
PERSONALITY Playful, loyal and energetic are three of Marcus’s most endearing traits. This description makes him sound somewhat like a puppy dog, which is not an entirely unfair comparison. Especially when it is added that he is messy, impatient and seemingly constantly ravenous.
He is always keen to join a game of anything and is the first to agree to a party (though, as he is disorganised, possibly the last to arrive.)
Marcus’s two sisters and mother keep him in line and ensure that he cannot spend every waking minute riding, at White’s or playing games with the gentlemen. He relishes in the relaxed, free-speaking company of gentlemen but also enjoys conversing with women, with whom he finds it easier to discuss matters like relationships, grief and despair. For example, his closest friend is probably his sister Rosalind (he finds his younger sister Jemima to be somewhat of a spoiled and immature brat, but has high hopes of her growing up well yet.)
Marcus speaks as he finds - something which can cause somewhat of a stir with the fair ladies and gentlemen of the Ton. Whilst conforming to the niceties of society most of the time (supervised carefully by his mother of course), he has no time for people who are defined by such things. He does not tolerate gossip.
He is generous, fun and generally easy going. However, he expects the same sort of loyalty and honesty from those in his circle and, if dissappointed, his temper can be frightening. Those who know him well with be loath (or very foolish) to cross him. He is not above completely barring someone from his life, should he find them not of suitable character.

Family Rosalind Fairmont. Close siblings. Marcus admires his sister's easy confidence and is highly protective of her. Typically, no one will ever be good enough for her.
Jemima Fairmont. Not so close siblings. Jem is simply his (spoiled...) kid sister.
Camilla Fairmont. Marcus has a great deal of respect for his mother but could do without her pushiness.
Dougal . English Water Spaniel. The two are thick as theives. Marcus likes to take him for a walk in Hyde Park as often as possible. Dougal finds this agreeable.
Alexandra Winter. Cousin on his mother's side. Marcus has seen little of her lately but she is well known to be the family's wild-child.
Katie Winter. Katie is Marcus's cousin and Marcus thinks her extremely sweet, naive and highly amusing.
Anthea Winter. Aunt Anthea is Marcus's aunt (his mother's sister.) She is a shameless gossip and enjoys controlling her children and nieces/nephew when available.
Friends Gabriel Pritchard. Longtime aqaintances. Marcus finds him easily likable and has a lot of time for the man.
Charlotte Tolson . Met through Charlie at Almack's. Marcus thinks she quiet and sweet, but not without some spunk. Good listener. Would like to know her better. A new friend and a very interesting girl, not least because of her exotic background. Marcus feels somewhat protective of the new arrival to Town.
Thomas Sterne . Met gambling at White's. He brings out Marcus's rogueish side and Marcus finds him intriguing/dangerous. Thomas owes him money.
Daniel Rossington Met at a clandestine, high-stakes card game in Paris and then again at Almacks. Marcus is doubtful about his reasons for being in such an environment but cannot help but like him.
Felicity StauntonA childhood friend of his sister, Marcus has no choice but to count Fliss as a friend, though they bicker good-naturedly more than anything else. Charlie Devenish. Finds the man easy to get along with, uncomplicated and quite fun.
David Sinclair . Met late, late, late one night over a card game at White's. Now close friends. David can usually beat him at cards.
Phoebe Sinclair. Met through her brother. She reminds him a little of his own sister and they've always had a fun, simple relationship. Now that she is making her debut, he is starting to see her in a new light...
Acquaintances
Blake Pritchard. Know eachother through Gabriel. Marcus finds him a bit haughty and inaccessible.
Elise Hampton. Has met her through Gabriel. Admires her prettiness but knows little of her.
Charity Pritchard Knows her through the two families' long acquaintance but has not seen her in years and has never paid her much heed.
George Hackett. Met at an Oxford v Cambridge cricket match a few years ago. Thinks him rather straitlaced.
Edith Vaughn Met briefly at Almacks. The lady failed to make an impression.
Tristan EdgeworthKnow one another from being in Town. Seems a good sort, if still finding his feet.
Juliet Landon Met at Rosalind's picnic in the park. Seems cheerful and gets points for being Charlotte's cousin.
Stephen BrydgesMet by chance on Bond St. Admires his rank in the navy and thinks him both humorous and unassuming.
Christiana BuckinghamIntroduced by their mothers last season. Finds her playfulness refreshing but thinks she might be heading for trouble.
Henry LaytonKnow one another from around Town. Thinks him a bit of a joker - quite funny, really - but hard to have an actual conversation with.
Arthur Darymple Met in Town at some function or other. A serious but nice guy - always seems a bit down.
Amelia LevesonMet at an Elsings House tea party arranged by their mothers. Thinks she's absolutely beautiful but reminds him of his little sister Jemima - and not in a good way.
Syvlester LevesonMet at an Elsings House tea party arranged by their mothers. Easily distracted fellow, but good fun.
Liselle Peltenham . Met through their parents. Marcus simply thinks she's very handsome and a charming dance partner.
Romantic encounters Claudia Morton . Met five or six years ago and had an instant connection. Got up to some hideously innappropriate things (e.g. racing through Kensington Gardens) but usually somewhat discreetly. Marcus was young and did not turn his mind to marriage. Claudia did. She was married off & vanished from his life. Until they met again at Almack's this season. He still finds her dangerously attractive.
Viola Fitzgerald . Met after he sought an introduction from the patronesses at Almacks. Marcus thinks she is stunningly beautiful, due in part to her self confidence and social skills. He likes that she's unafraid of giving him a hard time. He proposed a few years ago and she turned him down. He now thinks that was certainly for the best. No hard feelings.
A work in progress. Please don't post plotting here. If any of this information isn't correct or if I've missed people, please PM me.
