BACKGROUND

Juliet was born on the hottest day anyone could remember, on the 22 of August, 1793. Her gender was somewhat of an annoyance to her father, as he had been hoping for a second son after the near death of Juliet’s older brother, Richard, only a year earlier from a particularly nasty case of pneumonia. After spending a full month moping about the birth of yet another girl, his mother, Augusta, firmly advised him to “grow up and be a proper father” to Juliet, which he wisely took to heart.

Juliet’s childhood was a fairly happy one, spent playing in the luscious gardens of the Beningborough estate with her eldest sister Elizabeth. She was quite content with being the youngest child in her family, until her younger brother Freddie was born, who was then followed by Amy, who is truly the favourite of her family.

Elizabeth and Juliet were always at odds with each other as children, Elizabeth always insisting that she was “grown-up” while Juliet was “still a child”. Juliet was always quick to point out that Elizabeth was only one year older than her, which wasn’t much of a difference at all. Elizabeth felt it was a rather significant difference, and while the two girls argued their way through their childhood and into their adolescence, they came to realize that they had grown very close to one another.

Both Elizabeth and Juliet were privately educated in their home by various instructors in dance, painting, music, literature and both Greek and Latin. The last two languages were an insistence on Juliet’s part, who wished that she was able to read the books that Richard always brought back from Eton. She threw a rather temperamental fit one evening before Christmas, and her father relented. Juliet took an immediate liking to the two languages, happy she had found some linguistics in which she was fairly proficient in, as opposed to her hatred of French. While decent at both painting and drawing as well, Juliet is a rather accomplished singer, although she doesn’t like to perform.

Once Elizabeth left for her first season in London, Juliet grew terribly lonely, and spent more and more time in her father’s library and playing with her younger siblings. However, she is now on the verge of having her first season in London, and the old sibling rivalry between Elizabeth and herself is starting to flair up again.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION

Juliet is not what you would call the “beauty of the family” (that honour belongs to Elizabeth). She has brown curly hair, which turns a kind of reddish-brown in the sun. She has dark brown eyes, almost black, which always seem to be moving, taking everything in. She is fairly tall for her age (about 5’5”), and has been described as “statuesque”. She is thin, with a few curves to her, although her best feature has always been her elegant neck, which her brother suspects some fop will write an ode to at least once during the Season.

PERSONALITY

Juliet, as the middle child of her family, has always felt the need to make herself noticed amongst her other siblings. While it is true that Juliet and Elizabeth are close, it is no secret that Elizabeth is the one that is favoured the most out of the pairing. Juliet has spent the majority of her life trying to prove to her mother that she is as good as Elizabeth, and that she is as good as any son to her father.

While she is everything that her mother and society expects her to be (demure, graceful, pleasant) at first, Juliet is quite a different person than she is at first glance. Loud, impertinent and stubborn, she loves being the centre of attention, even if she doesn't show it. Juliet is the one thing that her mother finds most annoying in her life, and Juliet has come to accept this, and indeed revels in it at times. The only redeeming quality the Marchioness has been able to find is that her daughter is quite an excellent singer, although Juliet herself hates to sing. Juliet fancies herself to be an intellectual, and spends a great deal of time reading about Napoleon's discoveries in Egypt, and debating with her elder brother. Her family has a hard time understanding Juliet, particularly why she likes books so much. As a result, Juliet feels very much ignored by her family, and often feels that they do not accept her for who she is, which leads to her trying to attract attention in what could be called an "unseemly" fashion.

The most annoying quality that Juliet has (in her mother’s opinion) is her temper. Marion traces this back to Juliet’s birth, and her husband not being overly fond with their newest daughter. Since the day Augusta told him to accept Juliet, he has been somewhat soft with Juliet. Juliet, in exchange, has learned that the way to deal with her father is not to demurely ask him something, but to demand it, and to throw a fit if necessary. It seems that Juliet has been able to keep her temper in check as of late, which is an enormous relief to Marion, although she worries that her daughter may be saving her temper up for the first man who unintentionally insults her in London.

Juliet, however, is not without her redeeming qualities. While Elizabeth may be the favoured sister, Juliet is fiercely loyal to her family, and takes any insult towards them incredibly personally. She is not afraid to speak what is on her mind, and often she speaks her mind when she really shouldn't, often leading to many awkward situations. She also enjoys going to parties, and dancing, as well as socializing with the other families in her neighbourhood. She tries to be pleasant to others no matter her opinion of them (unless they make the grave mistake of provoking her temper), and finds that she blossoms under the attention of those outside of her family.

Juliet is very excited about her first Season in London. The opportunity to go to such a city, filled with the most fashionable (and intellectual) people in the country is something she has been looking forward to for years. She plans on enjoying her first Season without courting anyone, but her mother has very different plans for her...

{Relationships}

Immediate Family

Augusta Landon - Grandmother, and the only member of the family that Juliet truly gets along with. Augusta sees much of herself in Juliet, and therefore has always taken a special liking to the girl.

Marion Landon - Mother. Finds Juliet to be a bit of an annoyance, and tries to keep her from getting underfoot as much as possible.

Edmund Landon - Father. Always seems to have a headache from listening to his wife complain about their children, Juliet especially. Secretly, Edmund finds Juliet quite hilarious and spunky.

Richard Landon - Brother. Recently married, and is thus staying away from his family as much as physically possible. Puts up with Juliet's antics because he understands her frustration.

Ella Landon - Sister-in-law. Is quite terrified of the Landon's in general, as they all seem to be loud, which is a definite change from her quiet upbringing. She and Juliet do get along, as long as they're both in a good mood.

Elizabeth Landon - Sister. Two-faced, and always seems to be fighting with Juliet. They never really get along, as they are both in competition with the other for a husband.

Freddie Landon - Brother. Doesn't pay much attention to Juliet, always has his head in a book. Obsessed with war.

Amelia Landon - Sister. Loves Juliet, finds her antics to be quite amusing. Juliet is the only one who will play with her, which she appreciates greatly.

Friends

Daphne Werlington - Juliet met her completely by accident, but their odd sort of friendship has proved fruitful. The Duchess seems to really like Juliet, and has offered to introduce her to her brother, Damien Relmsey.

Charlotte Tolson - Juliet's cousin, fresh from India. Juliet finds her fascinating, and enjoys the presence of her quiet cousin greatly. She gets along better with Charlotte than she does her own sister.

Charity Pritchard - A new friend, they finally made each others' acquaintance at the Emerson Ball. The two get on like a house on fire, and Charity shares Juliet's distaste of Lady Julianne.

Elizabeth Dunford - Introduced to Juliet through Charity, she and Lizzie get along very well.

Enemies

Julianne Grafton - unbeknownst to Juliet, Lady Julianne Grafton has a hit out on the middle Landon child. Julianne, the front runner for the title incomparable for the Season has suddenly found herself in direct competition with Juliet. Plots and pranks ensue.

Love Interests

Blake Pritchard - the first man Juliet meets in London, and she just can't help but flirting with him. She knows that he doesn't share any of her feelings, but that won't stop her from looking...

Edouard Loring - the two share a flirtatious relationship, though she can't ever see herself marrying him.

Nicholas Gosling - a love interest thrust upon her by her mother, Juliet and the Duke barely get along, and while she has no feelings for him (other than annoyance), the two always seem to meet in the strangest places.

Damien Relmsey - Damien is quickly becoming one of Juliet's favourite people in all of London - the two get along splendidly, and always have something to talk about.

Sylvester Leveson - a flirting partner, nothing more.

Acquaintances

Blake Pritchard - Took a turn around the room with him at Almack's, instantly attracted to his biting wit and innocent flirtation. She realizes that he'll never be interested in her, but that won't stop her from developing a little crush...

Tristan Edgeworth - While their families both come from Yorkshire, and have met before, Tristan and Juliet have never really spoken until Almack's. They're both a little awkward, but could develop a friendship.

Edouard Loring - Juliet shared a rather flirtatious dance with Edouard at Almack's, which then lead to a call at Beningborough House the next day. She's unsure of him still, but appreciates his willingness to go along with her flirtation.

Nicholas Gosling - What started off as a very stormy encounter soon blossomed into a very tenuous relationship. While both aren't entirely sure if they like the other, they do their best to put on a good front.

George Hackett - While George may have enjoyed his dance with Juliet, she most certainly did not. She finds him rather boring and old, but does love his stories of Italy.

Damien Relmsey - another accidental acquaintance, Juliet met the brother of the Duchess of Werlington under very peculiar circumstances...she does, however, find him quite charming and likes him already.

Rosalind Fairmont - met through her cousin, Charlotte. Was invited to Lady Rosalind's picnic, which she was very happy about. Hasn't spent much time with her, but thinks she's a nice enough lady.

Marcus Fairmont - also met through Charlotte, Juliet is well aware of Charlotte's feelings for him, despite the fact she has never told Juliet about them. Thinks him pleasant enough, and would very much like to get to know him better.

Sylvester Leveson - met at Lady Rosalind's picnic, Juliet spent a good deal of time flirting with him, simply because she could. Wants to continue their acquaintanceship, but isn't all that interested in a romance with him.

Edith Vaughan - Juliet's newest friend, she gets along quite well with Edith. Also met by accident at Lady Rosalind's picnic. They spent a great deal of time talking about books and mythology.

Amelia Leveson - Juliet's first real frenemy, she finds Mia's presence dull, annoying and incredibly frivilous. She's embarrassed to be a debutante with the girl, but has to be pleasant to her because of her rank.

Viola Fitzgerald - only met briefly at the picnic, and doesn't really have an opinion of the lady as of yet.

Sylvester Leveson - Brother of Ameila, Juliet met him at the picnic, where they flirted before he took off abruptly.

David Alford - an old acquaintance of Juliet's, she finds that the more she gets to know him, the more she wishes she didn't.

Henry Layton - Juliet's newest acquaintance, she finds the Earl to be very charming, but rather thinks that he may be interested in Charity...

Penelope Grove - Juliet quite likes Lady Penelope, who she met while shopping, though she seems a little quiet.

Patrick Grove - Juliet has a brief acquaintance with Patrick, through his friendship with Daniel. She can see why the two get along quite well, and finds him to be quite amusing.

Elise Hampton - Another friend met while shopping, Juliet also finds Elise to be very quiet. She doesn't really trust the girl, as Elise is one of Julianne's closest friends - a fact that Juliet wishes would change.

Annabelle Beacham - Juliet barged into a conversation Belle was having in order to introduce herself, and the two seem to get along quite well, though Belle's tendency to get overly excited about puppies may annoy Juliet a bit.

Victor Kincaide - If Juliet is being perfectly honest, she just likes scaring the poor man out of conversations by being loud and talking quickly.

Mark and Hugo Fotherington - Juliet has not been formally introduced to the twins, though she knows them by name. She ran into them, and then left before she could introduce herself.

Alethea Tessington - The infamous Viscountess that Juliet was "supposed to stay away from at all costs" (according to her mother). Juliet now understands why - she likes the Viscountess, and really, she can't be that horrible if the Duchess is friends with her, can she?

{Chronological RP History}

April 10, 1811

Preparing for a Ball - Juliet Landon, Marion Landon (NPC) - Beningborough House, Afternoon
A short narrative of the arrangements for Juliet's debut at Almack's at the newly renovated Beningborough House.

Why Marry a Princess? - Juliet Landon, Blake Pritchard, Marion Landon (NPC), Elizabeth Landon (NPC) - Almack's Assembly Rooms, Evening
Juliet's entrance to Almack's was wrought with scandal - not only did she turn down a gentleman for a dance, but she then proceeded to back into the Marquess of Emerson. Feeling sorry for the poor debutante, Blake asks her to take a turn around the room with him. She accepts, and causes quite the scene, as Blake is an eligible bachelor who is terrified of matrimony. To be seen with a debutante is a dangerous thing indeed, and yet Blake handles it well. The two argue a small amount, until Tristan Edgeworth arrives and claims Juliet for a dance.

Selina - The Second Dance - Juliet Landon, Tristan Edgeworth - Almack's Assembly Rooms, Evening
After her turn around the room with Blake Pritchard, Juliet accepts her first dance of the evening with an old family friend, Tristan Edgeworth. The two have a tenuous relationship, having only met a few times in the years that their families estates have been nearby in Yorkshire.

Distracted by Shinies - Juliet Landon and Daphne Werlington - Almack's Assembly Rooms, Evening
After Juliet takes a wrong turn attempting to find her mother and sister, she happens upon the Duchess of Beaumont in a Lady's Retiring Room. The two strike up a conversation after Juliet stubs her toe, and they speak of how Juliet is enjoying her debut. The topic of the Duchess' brother, Damien, arises, and Daphne begins to plot for the two to perhaps get together. She plans an informal tea that Juliet is invited to attend in order to meet Damien, and the two part ways, both incredibly excited at the tea to be held.

Introductions Between the 5th and 6th Dances - Juliet Landon, Edouard Loring, Elizabeth Landon (NPC), Emily Lambert (NPC), Marion Landon (NPC) - Almack's Assembly Rooms, Evening
Juliet and Elizabeth are found by Emily Lambert, Countess of Merseyside, and introduced to her cousin, Edouard Loring. Edouard and Juliet exchange some pleasantries, witty comments, and soon Edouard has secured a dance with "that girl who caused Emerson so much trouble".

Dancing the 6th Dance - Juliet Landon, Edouard Loring and Elizabeth Landon (NPC) - Almack's Assembly Rooms, Evening
Juliet and Edouard get along quite well, to the surprise of all parties involved, especially after the Earl's dance with a testy Charlotte Tolson (cousin to Lady Juliet) earlier in the evening. The two flirt ceaselessly, and start a guessing game between the two as to just why ladies love attending balls so much, which the Earl is unable to figure out.

Nicholas vs. the Landon Sisters (Part 1) - Juliet Landon, Nicholas Gosling, Elizabeth Landon (NPC), Blake Pritchard - Almack's Assembly Rooms, Evening
While Juliet only appears briefly, the encounter between Elizabeth and Nicholas is what precipitates the disasterous dance between Juliet and Nicholas later in the evening. Nicholas overhears Juliet telling off the Marquess of Emerson, and thus labels her a "harpy".

Feeling Rather 'Out of Place' - (Nicholas vs. the Landon Sisters Part II) - Juliet Landon, Nicholas Gosling, Marion Landon (NPC), Elizabeth Landon (NPC) - Almack's Assembly Rooms, Evening
A quiet dance with the fair Lady Elizabeth Landon was all that the Duke of Leighton really wanted. Instead, he met her meddlesome mother, the Marchioness of Beningborough, and her tempermental debutante sister, Lady Juliet. After a relatively polite start to their dance, Juliet and Nicholas engage in a full out fight in the middle of Almack's, even go so far as to hold the dance up. The two come to a tentative ceasefire, and conclude the dance pretending to enjoy each other's company, using Juliet losing a slipper as their excuse for the hold up during the dance.

The Jubilee - Juliet Landon, George Hackett, Marion Landon (NPC) - Almack's Assembly Rooms, Evening
Still reeling from her dance with the Duke of Leighton, Juliet is hardly herself once she begins to dance with Lord Selwyn. The two have a pleasant dance together, although Juliet finds him slightly boring. She is intrigued by his tales of Italy, but the dance finishes before they have a chance to speak further.

At the End of the Night, All Becomes Right (Nicholas vs. the Landon sisters Part III) - Juliet Landon, Nicholas Gosling, Elizabeth Landon (NPC), Marion Landon (NPC) - Almack's Assembly Rooms, Evening
Taking place during the 12th Dance, Juliet and Elizabeth meet on a balcony, where Elizabeth shows her true colours in her beliefs about marriage and love. Unknown to either sister, Nicholas Gosling is listening in, and is shocked by the fair Lady Elizabeth. Elizabeth leaves, Nicholas enters, and apologizes to Juliet. The two start (what could be called) a new friendship, and take a turn around the room, talking, under the pretense of locating Juliet's family. They part company on a friendly note, and Marion begins scheming to have Juliet married to the Duke.

April 11, 1811

A Brand New Day - Juliet Landon, Marion Landon (NPC), Elizabeth Landon (NPC), Edouard Loring - Beningborough House, 10 am

April 12, 1811

An Accidental Meeting - Juliet Landon, Damien Relmsey, Marion Landon (NPC) - Beningborough House, Morning
This thread was not played in game, it was written over a period of three days over YIM. Juliet meets Damien Relmsey much earlier than she should have, during his accident outside of Beningborough House. She helps him inside, and has a doctor brought to the house to look after him. The two get along surprisingly well, and Juliet finds herself forming yet another crush on a gentleman.

A Night to Remember - Juliet Landon, Marion Landon (NPC), Elizabeth Landon (NPC), rest of the board - Emerson House, Evening

Today was a Fairytale - Juliet Landon, Charity Pritchard, Damien Relmsey, Henry Layton, Marion Landon (NPC) - Emerson House, Evening
