Dear London Life members and visitors,
After much consideration and discussion, the staff and I have come to the decision to close the board to new applications from new players. I believe that the game is in a good place, with a variety of characters and players. As the game as gotten older and our members more experienced, our acceptance rate has dropped dramatically while our application rate has gone up. Our current acceptance rate is about 25%. In October alone, we received 20 applications. Only 5 were accepted, despite us working with almost every application. This results in a good deal of work for the staff and myself for very little reward in the form of active members that become assets to the game.
As with (most) any rule, there are exceptions to the above rule:
Scenario A "I am a Austenite who regularly quotes
The Mirror of Graces, attends Regency balls, and is an excellent writer with great grammar and near-perfect spelling! The London Life is the answer to my prayers! I have a truly unique character who has been researched to the extreme! I can't join?"
Well, right of the bat, no. If you're serious about doing the research and gaining a true familiarity with the period, and if you're brave enough to contact an admin or moderator and really make a case for yourself, we would be more than happy to consider your application. Just talk to us! We won't bite!
Scenario B "My really good friend, Jane, is already a member. She told me about the game and can vouch for me. Can't I apply?"
Yes, you may! Just have your friend contact one of the staff and we'll allow you to apply.
Scenario C "Wait, Liz! I'm already here, with three characters that are super popular and I'm an awesome player. You know that! Can't I have another character?"
Of course. Nothing has changed if you're already here! Just keep on keeping on!

The board may not be closed forever; we're not trying to turn the game into some sort of exclusive, elitist club. That was never, and will never, be the intent and purpose of this game. We're simply happy with the current state of the game. Keeping applications open simply isn't worth it if the staff is getting burned out within a few months of taking on the position, resulting in snippy responses and a growing resentment toward the game, or worse, a lowering of our standards simply because we're too exhausted to spend the proper amount of time critiquing each application.
If you have questions about this, please feel free to contact a member of the staff. We'd be happy to discuss the decision with you at length.
Thank you,
The Staff of The London Life
