mother: Jill Kelly; 54; hair stylist/beautician father: Scott Kelly; 55; owns a sports-themed store (with stuff with team logos and the like) siblings: Andrew; 31 May; 25 Cecilia; 23 other: Tessa Kelly; 52; aunt; Eden has a very close relationship with her pets: none at the moment
general history: zero; a daughter is born to Jill and Scott Kelly; she is their second child, and they name her Eden Marie.
one; Eden grows up in a family obsessed with everything trendy, new, materialistic, etc.
three; Eden starts pre-school and learns to read; although her parents never encouraged it at home, she spends much of her free time at preschool reading, and even manages to get her parents to take her to the library occasionally.
five; Eden starts preschool; she is overjoyed at the elementary school library; she learns to write, and loves to write stories.
elementary school; Eden is a bright girl and does well in all school subjects, but especially English. Unlike many kids, she enjoys going to school, because the teachers and even most of the other students are more accepting of her interest in stuff like reading.
middle school; Although Eden is somewhat of a nerd, she still has a good-sized group of friends and does well socially as well as academically; school is an escape from her home life of her mother trying to make her into the stereotypical teenage girl and get her a boyfriend.
high school; By high school, Eden's relationship with her parents has further deteriorated, and she spends as much time as possible either away from them. She gets her first boyfriend sophomore year, but her parents don't relent even then, because they don't think he's the right type for her (i.e. not the stereotypical good looking football player type). She is particularly close to her English teacher that year, and that is how she decides that she wants to teach English.
college; College is where Eden really blossoms. It is the first time she can really be herself, and she starts to figure out who she really is. She double majors in education and English.
grad school; after graduating from college, Eden manages to get accepted to study literature at Oxford, in England. After earning her masters degree, she continues on to earn her PhD at age 27.
getting the job; Eden loved England, so after becoming qualified to teach in England and graduating, she starts looking for jobs there, as opposed to back in teh states. And here she is, ready to begin (hopefully).

| QUOTE | Although there were numerous libraries and bookstores around Phoenix, and she had a good sized collection of books of her own at home, Theresa had to admit a certain fondness for the school library. It wasn't the largest, nor did it have the widest variety, and even she didn't like thinking about school too much during the summer, but there was something about the school library where she could just curl up in a chair and lose herself completely in a book; it was quiet, especially during the summer, and she could read uninterrupted for hours.
Since all she planned on doing was reading, Tess was dressed rather simply in a pair of wide-waisted, dark blue yoga pants and a white t-shirt with a bird sketched on it in light grey. All she wore for footwear was a pair of old flip-flops. Her curly hair was left hanging loose around her shoulders, and her makeup was minimal--just a bit of lip gloss. The sound of Tess' flip-flops seemed to almost echo, surely amplified in her mind by the contrast between them and the large, empty silence of the hallway she was walking down.
Pushing open the library door, Theresa stepped softly inside; even though nobody else (as far as she knew) was there, years of visiting libraries had conditioned her to be as quiet as possible. She shut the door carefully behind her, but did not venture onward quite yet, pausing for a moment to decide where she wanted to look. Some days she'd have a specific book in mind, but on others, like this one, she'd have no idea whatsoever. Tess wanted something high quality--that was always a given--, but it was summer, after all, so she wanted something entertaining too. Some sort of romance was a possibility, but they could be iffy, so Tess dismissed that thought and continued on her mental scan of the shelves. Ah! The mystery section. That was it!
She walked right into the middle of the section, then began reading titles, seeing if any looked interesting; unfortunately, though, Tess wasn't having much luck that day, and she was almost ready to give up when she decided to venture into the very last bit of the mystery section. Turning the corner, Tess drew in a breath of surprise and almost jumped! She thought she had been completely alone, but here was another girl, Kathy Albom. The two weren't close friends, but they had had some classes together and such, and Tess debated whether she should say anything; she didn't want to disturb the girl, but what if she had already noticed Tess' silly reaction. She blushed, hoped Kathy wouldn't notice, and decided to say a simple "Hey! What book?" That was simple enough, right? She didn't want to become known as the pushy, overly friendly girl. |
