Honestly, why Knight was in the library slipped him. He had been walking around the school during his free period, not exactly sure what he should do, when he felt a sudden urge to go inside of the library. Knight went on his sudden urges; they were just about the only thing about him that was certain. Everything else he did was spontaneous and unplanned, and well, would always be like that. There wasn’t any reason that he should even be inside of the library. He certainly wasn’t good at reading in English, and he wasn’t here to study for something. Yet Knight kept walking down the aisles, maybe hoping that he’d find someone he knew or a book in French. He let the faint dusty smell of the books fill his lungs as a very cute little smile crawled upon his rather flawless lips. It was like seeing a lion among kitties; books and Knight didn’t clash well, but for some reason his very old fashioned nature seemed to make him look naturally at home amongst the old leather books.

Knight was quite the walking paradox, and that just added to his unending appeal. Girls liked someone who was complicated, someone who seemed deep, and Knight was great at being like that.

He was wearing a white collar button down which had the first couple buttons undone and the sleeves casually rolled up to his elbows and tucked into his fitted dark jeans. He wore a black belt and on his wrist was a Rolex watch. Knight didn’t really care too much about fashion, and that was basically because almost everything looked good on him. His hair was in rather a messy style, and it made his look even more rugged and debonair. It was a wonder any girl could keep themselves off him, which was why there were very few that could. There was a certain one by the name of Amelia who had recently been eluding him, but Knight wasn’t going to give up. He liked games. They passed the time, and he certainly needed one while he was here in Crawley.

Turning to face the book shelf, he randomly selected a book and opened it, trying to make some sense of what it said. What his parents had been thinking of when they sent him to England of all places, where barely any one spoke any French was beyond him. They knew that his English wasn’t good, but they had still sent him. So he looked at the book, flipping through the pages carelessly, trying to pass the time until his next period, hoping without a doubt that someone would come and rescue him from his boredom.

Mia picked up the piece of paper that was lying on the library table and read through it. Compared to the letter her sister had sent, it was incredibly short, but she didn't really care. She didn't have much to say to anyone at home. Quickly signing her name, she folded it up and leaned back in her chair, not ready to go back to her dorm. It was quiet here in the library, and she was rather fond of quiet, even though she wasn't the sort to have her nose in a book.

She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and stood, strolling over to one of the shelves. If it was as quiet as this all the time, she'd definitely have to consider maybe moving in. Her roommates were great and all, but they could be rather noisy and annoying at times.

Her fingers brushed against the spines of the books as she walked down the aisle. She stopped and pulled one out, not really even bothering to read the title. Her eyes glimpsed the guy standing on the other side of the shelf, and though she couldn't see much of him, she could see enough to know who it was. Her reflexes caused her to shove the book back on the shelf and mutter "Oh, crap."

Knight Beaumont wasn't exactly one of her favorite people on the planet, even if he was the sort of person her parents probably would have disliked instantly upon meeting him. He probably had plenty of good character traits, but Mia simply had no desire to figure out what they were. He was the sort of guy that every girl had a crush on, meaning that there was pretty much no chance that Amelia would ever be able to feel anything towards him other than utter annoyance.

She was about to hightail it out of the library, but she hadn't pushed the book all the way in, and her arm bumped it as she turned. The book fell off the shelf and onto her toes. "Oh, crap!" This time the words were not muttered, they were nearly shrieked as throbbing pain shot through her toes. All hopes of escape vanished as she bent to pick up the book. There was no way Knight hadn't heard her, and probably very little chance that he wouldn't speak to her.

The first curse had gone unnoticed by Knight. He was to busy watching the girl on the other side of the shelf. He had a good vie of her, and yet it could seem as if he was still reading his book as he watched at her. She certainly was pretty, and Knight didn’t recognize her. Inside his head he was trying to decide if he was going to go over there and casually start up a conversation with her. Knight was especially good at doing that, and he used his status as the foreigner who knew nothing about how things worked here to get the girls to help him. He knew how to use his situation to his advantage, and his parents would be proud of him if they knew this, but it wasn’t exactly the type of thing that you observe in a person. Knight didn’t even know it himself. To him it was like second nature. Like breathing. Like nothing.

He let a smile curl upon his lips, as he casually closed the book and got ready to walk over to the other girl, when he heard the curse and a thump. Knight instantly turned his head over to see no one other than Miss Amelia herself. That small little smile at once grew into an amused grin as Knight leaned against the book shelf. Looking at her, he couldn’t help but chuckle a bit as he leaned away and very casually and rather pompously walked over to where she was. He regally bent over to get the book, and as he straightened back up, Knight smiled at her and looked into her eyes. “You are alright, yes?” he asked in his heavily accented English, his voice slightly amused and slightly concerned. If anything good was going to come out of this little exchange program, hopefully it would be him learning how to speak English without so much of an accent. It was practically impossible to understand him half the time.

Knight could tell that she was distressed and that only made him more pleased. He knew that something about him made her not like him, and Knight wasn’t going to change how he was for her. He was simply going to romance her as much as he could; it always worked. There wasn’t a single girl who Knight set his eyes on which he didn’t get, and he wasn’t going to let some pretty little English girl be the first. He had a reputation to withhold.

Amelia's fears were confirmed when Knight spoke to her. She froze momentarily, then stood and shoved the book onto the shelf, this time making sure that it was all the way on the shelf so that the situation wouldn't be repeated. "I'm fine," She told him, folding her arms over her chest.

She eyed the boy momentarily before speaking again. "You're not the sort that I would expect to be in a library," She told him offhandedly, moving her hands to her hips. Turning back to the bookshelf, she began surveying the books again, hoping that if she ignored him he'd take the hint and go away.

“Good to know. Wouldn't want you being hurt,” Knight said, his voice soothing and mysterious, but in his head he couldn’t help but laugh as casually lean back against the book shelf, only a couple inches away from her. Knight found her absolutely adorable in the way she acted, and there was something inside of him that only wanted her to act like that all the time. He wasn’t exactly sure what it was about Amelia that was so different than with other girls, but all he was sure of was that he certainly had fun annoying her. It was a new thing to him to have to actually try to get a girl, and perhaps he was just enjoying the new experience. Hell, maybe England would prove to teach him something after all.

Oh, wouldn’t his parents be proud? He wasn’t spending his time her doing completely doing nothing.

“Well, I am full of surprises,” he added, with a light chuckle in his voice that denoted he was joking only a bit. Knight turned around and faced the book shelf, scanning over the shelf and looking for a book title that popped out to him. He really wasn’t sure what was so fascinating about books; they were just a bunch of words on paper. Knight liked music, old movies; real life. It was certainly a mystery to him how people could get “lost in a book” and he really didn’t want to know how. It simply didn’t interest him, and he could barely understand what the books were saying anyway. Knight liked living life and being active, acting and being himself. Closing yourself up to the world wasn’t right. Knight was a firm believer in being open and out in society.

He stopped looking after he was sure his search would prove fruitless. Leaning against the shelf again, his body this time turned towards her, Knight looked down at her, his hands crossed over his torso. “Why are you here?” he asked, casually, his flawless lips grinning down almost deviously at her. He wanted to see her reaction to him, not even trying to guess how it would be. Knight found it rather fascinating how people behaved sometimes, which was why he liked them so much.

As Knight spoke sweetly to her, Mia had the urge to drop the book again, but this time on his foot. He was much too close for comfort now, and while she didn't like it in the slightest, she didn't want him to think she was intimidated by him. She remained where she was, but kept her hands on her hips, as if it would keep him away from her. "You don't have to worry about me, I can take care of myself," She told him cooly, with almost a threatening look in her eye.

Mia turned back to the bookshelf, studying the titles on the spines of the books without really seeing them. She was in a rather pathetic situation. She could watch any horror movie without batting an eyelash, she'd stolen her parents car, and done a thousand other things that would cause anyone less determined to have a mild hurnia, but she couldn't talk to Knight without her brain getting all scrambled and wanting to smack something. "I was writing a letter to my sister. It's quieter in here. Well, it was," She informed him pointedly after a moment.

Knight let out a merry little chuckle as he slightly titled his head up. “Oh, I don’t doubt that, and I don’t worry about you,” he said, tilting his head back down and letting their eyes meet for a couple seconds before he turned his away. Talking to people was like second nature to Knight, and he was more than confident talking to a girl. In French he was eloquent and sweet, easily making a girl fall under his charms and sweet talking in seconds. In English, it was different. He needed to make an effort to talk, he had to think. This alone made Knight rather uncomfortable, but he played it off as coolly and casual as he could. The number one rule when talking to girls was to always keep your cool; Knight knew that one all to well. So, instead of making it read all over his face that he was short of words, Knight illuminated his rather good looking face with a smile.

“Really?” he said, looking around, leaning away from the book shelf and lightly walking around to her other side, the whole time still looking around curiously. “I don’t hear any persons talking. Seems rather quiet to moi,” he added, now leaning on the book shelf again, this time on her other side. The random French often slipped out of his mouth, but it was harmless. It was these simple things that he used to lure her in, thinking to himself that they were genius and fool proof. His smile got wider at his little joke, and he couldn’t help but slightly laugh. He raised his eye brows at her questioningly, as if actually expecting an answer from her.

He liked to play around, and even with the obvious language barrier, he would still make sure he was somewhat amusing. All the other girls in Crawley seemed to find his accent quiet sexy, and his bad English ‘SOO CUTE!’ and Knight was using that. He had come and thought that no girl would like him beyond his looks here because of his English, but apparently being a foreigner made him very appealing. When he talked to Amelia though, well, things didn’t work as easily as they did with the other girls.

And that just made him more determined than ever to get her.

Mia couldn't think of a single reply when he said he didn't worry about her. She hadn't exactly meant it like that; she'd meant he didn't have to ask if she was okay, or really even talk to her at all, but her brain couldn't form any words to tell him that.

She rolled her baby blues at him. "That's the point. No one was until you came over here." Jeez, he was such a moron. She turned and began walking to the end of the aisle picking up a book that had a pretty cover, and starting to read. Maybe if she was busy he'd leave.

Somehow it didn't occur to her that she should just leave.

Knight laughed as he watched her walk away, obviously looking her over. There was something about her that drew him to her, and Knight really wasn’t sure he knew what it was. There had only been one other girl he had ever felt like that for. She had been a lot like Mia in some ways. The only difference was that she hadn’t been as hard to catch. She and Knight hadn’t lasted to long, it turned out that despite the way she acts and looks, she really was nothing more than a pretty face. Not to mention that she was in France now and engaged to some guy. But Mia was different, and he knew that without even having to really know her. It was something that just radiated off of her like a star radiates light. Mia had that type of effect, and it certainly was fascinating.

It didn’t exactly occur to him that she disliked him. Knight just saw it that she really just found him annoying, but inside, she liked the attention. What girl didn’t like the attention of a guy like Knight? He was charming, funny, romantic, eloquent – in French at least – and of course, good looking. There wasn’t a girl that could resist him, and if there was he certainly hadn’t found her and hoped he never would. To Knight, she was just putting up the front that she didn’t want him around. It didn’t occur to him at all that she really just didn’t want him around at all.

He leaned off the book shelf and casually followed her, only a few paces away from her as she went off. “Oh, are you saying I annoy you so much?” he asked, his voice still had a remnant of a pretty chuckle. Knight took a long stride forward and got in front of her. Stopping her and lightly pushing down the book, rendering it impossible for her to read, he gave her a smile as he added, “Well, Mia, I’m flattered. In France, when girl finds boy annoying, it means she likes him.” Knight was teasing now, and he didn’t care for the grammatical errors that he didn’t know how to fix. The point was out there, and it was obvious that he was making a joke, but Mia just left herself open to jokes. And Knight, always looking for fun, took the opportunity.

He couldn’t help it, it was an impulse.
