![]() This postcard photo showing my grandfather, Sergeant John Francis MAGEE 21687 - seated 2nd from right in the photo, is one of two, taken at the same time, the other being a more 'formal' one with not too many smiles nor a legend in white ink "Ratzz Section - 10th RDF". Does anyone know who the other Sergeants might be? My grandfather rejoined the RDF (8th Batt) as a private on 1st June 1915, he had been promoted to sergeant by the time of his marriage to my grandmother on 23rd August 1915. Might I be correct in thinking that he must have been transferred to the 10th sometime after August 1915 and was therefore probably involved in the early stages of the 'Uprising' at Easter 1916. Does anyone know where this information might be held? Grandfather had two earlier periods of service with the RDF, 1888 - 1895 with the 1st Batt and a second stint, again with the 1st, during the Boer War. |
