Would anyone have information about my grandfather please? Where was he posted etc.? He was born in 1895 in Hackney, London and he joined up in November 1914. I suppose the regiment was recruiting in London at the time but it seems strange to me that a young Jewish Londoner ended up in an Irish regiment! Was this common? Also he appears to have signed up again in 1919 (for another 5 years? 12 years?) although the family story is that he was gassed in the trenches and suffered poor health thereafter. This is unlikely to be true if he signed up again after the war. Any information gratefully received.

he was in the RDF and was on the SWB list so he was wounded in some way , as you said possibly gassed.
