Title: Official Kevin Appreciation Thread
Description: Your kindest words to Omnimaga's founder
Alex - May 6, 2006 02:10 AM (GMT)
I will start this off by thanking Kevin for all his contributions to the TI community. Not only for his impressive and revolutionary programs, but also for his constant efforts to keep Omnimaga alive, and from taking it from its humble beginnings to what it is today. His constant positive feedback on all our projects, not to mention a place where we can display these projects gave many of us the motivation we needed to keep working on them.
Lately some of us upset him in a way or another, and for that I would like to apologize. I would like to ask everyone here to say a couple of kind words of encouragement to our friend in these trying times for him.

You've been a huge inspiration to me Kevin. I remember back in january 2005, i just got my new calculator, and i visited TiCalc.org for new games. I saw your feature and i was completely amazed by the awesome graphics! And in Grayscale! I said to myself, i want to make a game like that, so i started reading a few basic tutorials and learning BASIC. All your games have been epics, and your influence has been tremendous on the Calc Society, if there was a noble prize for Calculators, you'd win it :)

I THANKS HIM FOR ILLUSIAT! Those seriously kept me entertained for a loooong time. :D
Ranman - May 6, 2006 12:23 PM (GMT)
Well... Ultima V would have turned into an incomplete tech demo about 1 year ago if it had not been for Omnimaga and Kevin.
Thank you for all of your encouragement!
Spellshaper - May 6, 2006 12:27 PM (GMT)
Yep u all said it ^_^
Enjoy your break Kevin!

If it wasn't for Kevin Ouellet and Illusiat I never would have made A Dot RPG, and would have never started T14 (as dead as it my be now) when I saw what he did with RoL1 & 2 I was amazed that something so complex could be on the calc. When I saw RoL3 I started to get into xLIBbing and whatnot (xLIB .1a bud) when I finally started to talk on the same forums as Kevin I was amazed at how cool of a guy he was (this was slightly before EPS) eventually EPS formed and I talked on their forums alot (I even had a few T14 topics there that seems Kevin was the only person intrested in them) then I started to frequent IRC alot and found him there, awsome dude to chat with, eventually we became friends (this was after DLQ (of which I have never played, lacking the TI-83+SE calc to do so) but before RQ1) then he started talking about GS in BASIC which amazed me further, I tried to pull secrets from him (he said they where too complex, he was right) which in the end helped me become a better programmer, after a while I noticed Kevin getting more and more depressed, then he released XXR which seemd to PWN everything out there into the ground. He has helped THOUSANDS of people in programming SOMETHING and alot of people in programming great things, and has still to this date not been topped in the BASIC world... and probably won't be for quite some time.

I think I met a lot of nice people here, thanks to Kevin. Without him, I would not hang around here. He also morivated me when I started working on Shadow Falls - without him, I would have stopped very soon.
rivereye - May 6, 2006 06:47 PM (GMT)
WIthout Kevin, my RPG would have never started, and if it did, never would be where it is today
Jc - May 6, 2006 07:29 PM (GMT)
I really got to know Kevin by accident... at first, I figured I wasn't really deep enough in the calculator world to associate with him friendly, but he was a very kind programmer who immediately opened up to me. He's friendly, a lot of fun, and has a very... entertaining... sense of humor. :)
tenniskid493 - May 6, 2006 07:45 PM (GMT)
I never knew kevin until the day that I read a news article on some other site that omnimaga was looking for a news editor. I figured I'd apply, even though I wasn't even a member yet here. I got the job and the rest has been history. He's helped me out a lot with motivation for the forum rpg and the chosen. Thank You Kevin!! :)

Kevin, you realy got me to start programming and all. I got to say, I realy think you have done a lot for this community and I wonder how many people put more hours into it. I realy hope to hear that you are feeling better again soon and have some better circumstances.
something1990 - May 6, 2006 09:41 PM (GMT)
I don't really know the guy too well so... Good Luck.
g28401 - May 6, 2006 10:23 PM (GMT)
yeah, I started programming basically from looking at omnimaga.
BCTurk - May 7, 2006 12:31 AM (GMT)
I was kind of dinking around, play programming, and stuff. Then I came to omnimaga, and I'm a much better coder now, thanks to him and some others here. Thanks a whole bunch Kevin..
the_unknown_one - May 7, 2006 08:43 AM (GMT)
I've known Kevin for about 2 years now... He's one of the people who've kept me alive through those 2 years... I thank you for that, Kevin. Also, his games were ownage, I've watched him work on a lot of stuff and it all amazed me. Thanks to him, TI-BASIC has reached a whole new level, and isn't that bad compared to ASM anymore. We had a great time in EPS, and also here in Omnimaga during the time I've been staff here. And also, without him I probably never would've gotten to know CDI. Kevin, you are a great guy, with a great mind and ideas. You rock. Thanks for the 2 years I've known you.
Sonata - May 8, 2006 08:41 AM (GMT)
Good ol' kev...y'know, i worshipped this guy when i first found out who he was and what he was doing for BASIC. Today, I'm proud to say he's a great friend. Good, caring spirit. He may have his flaws, but the great minds always do. So heres to you, me ol' chum. Without him, FF:ROS wouldn't be but a distant gleam in my eyes. While its still more or less a gleam, its getting there =P I hope you don't leave us forever, Kevin...you're a great asset to the community. Everyone thinks so. You're a BASIC legend...your deeds and actions will be told in song and story for generations to come. Maybe not so dramatic, but it'll happen =P So I say thus: even after you're long gone, your spirit and influence on the community will hold. You've proved BASIC can be so much more. Take your place in the ranks, right up there with the greats, for you deserve it. Good on ya, mate =) Stick around, eh? gimme a shout on AIM or IRC
shadow - May 9, 2006 09:35 PM (GMT)
i wouldn't have started my rpg (let a lone be able to program)
non of us could play all the great games he made
he couldn't inspired all of us
we wouldn't know so many tricks for basic
we wouldn't have this website
we couldn't laugh at his jokes
and so much, much more
Kevin you are a legend in the world of calc programing, if not more than a legend
threefingeredguy - May 11, 2006 02:18 AM (GMT)
This was the first TI site I ever visited, and I thank Kevin for making it.
rivereye - May 13, 2006 12:17 AM (GMT)
I relize that I have been kind of an ass at times to certian people.
First off, to kalan_vod. Right after Omnimaga was shut down, kalan made a comment to me about joining and being an active member of my site. When he never did, I kept bugging him on it, and eventually it did get to him. Second of all, I made a post in the post count thread here that was not the most thought out (I had said that kalan was making too many posts), and I do relize this was not the smartest move. I do appologize for these actions. Please note, around that time of the year, I always get testy for some really weird reason. I do relize this is not really an excuse, but I hope not to have it again.
Also, to xlibman, I have gotton to you it seems for not going to my site as often as I would have liked, and it did get to you also. I do relize that people need a break from places, even admins, and though I would have like to have seen more activity from you, I shouldn't have gotton on you as I have. For this, I also appologize.
To the active members of the #omnimaga channel. I do relize now that I seem power hungry when there are no ops, other than myself, or when tifreak8x, xlibman, and Tenniskid are absent. This is not how a channel op should act. For this I am going to voultaringly de-op myself everytime connect and just be a voice unless I feel I need the powers of an channel op. This will go on until I can resolve those issues. I also appologize to each and everyone of you.
Also, to anyone else I have not named, I also appologize, one for doing what I did to you, and second, for not naming you by name. To anyone mentioned, if there is anyway I could repay myself to you, please let me know, and I will attempt with all my effort as soon as possible (note to channel members, this does not apply, for I am punishing myself).
Thanks for you listening.
kalan_vod - May 14, 2006 03:42 AM (GMT)
Thank you rivereye, but I can completely understand how sometimes things get messed up. Kevin I hope you realize how much we all would miss you, and I say this again because I want you to remember it forever "You're like a brother to me, so just as brothers do say I say I love you like a brother man!"
xlibman - May 14, 2006 02:18 PM (GMT)
thanks guy for your support, I really appreciate the kind words. I hope things will stay fine in the future, the actual problem is that I am kinda different from most of you guys. No one ever diagnosticed me with a mental disease or something similar but I feel I have something wrong, I am more sensitive than normal and I have very big self control problems. Unfortunately some people in the community discovered this and used this against me, and this is why I have been feeling so down in the past year, but your support helped me stick around and feel better. In the near future i know i might have some times when I feel down again, but if people help it will eventually maybe stop happening, hopefully. Basically its just that i have to deal with stuff other ppl doesn't have to deal with as much as me, and I hope you don't have to deal with this its not easy at all :/
anyway thanks again for the support. On a good related note on July 4th I will have been coding for calcs for 5 years ^^

If it helps you: I have been diagnosticed hyperactive and stoic depressive
xlibman - May 14, 2006 03:11 PM (GMT)
well sometimes this is stuff that cant be really seen very fast, ppl discover them by being with the person more and for long
tr1p1ea - May 14, 2006 04:07 PM (GMT)
Its great to see you back Kevin! You were (and still are) one of the pioneers of TI-BASIC. Without you, BASIC programmers would still be scoffed at and utils like xLIB would never be.
You are a kind and genuine person and will forever be an integral part of the TI scene.
katmaster - May 19, 2006 01:50 AM (GMT)
Yeah, thanks for being around Kevin, cuz without you, Bomberman 83+ would be dead. Very dead. Thanks for given me my own little piece of history in calc gaming.
P.S. Kevin is teh bomb :)
xlibman - May 20, 2006 06:10 PM (GMT)
thanks for the support, but I dunno if I am done for living in this world

Yea I used to envy Kevin for 2 years and I would be like I wish I could meet this guy somehow. One day I stumbled across omnimaga where all my BASIC idols hung out xlibman, CDI_, tr1p1ea, rivereye and I was like wow. Then I became friends with Kevin over the next months and found out he was not some "I'm the best basic coder" stuck up idiot but he was a geniune friend that understood what people go through. On the BASIC note I definetly think Kevin is a legend.
Radical Pi - October 17, 2006 09:17 PM (GMT)
Any reason the ad on this page is "Women's Bipolar Treatment"?
Is Kevin hiding something from us?...
jk lol We know you're great.
Super Speler - October 17, 2006 09:22 PM (GMT)
Would anyone actually get medical treatment from a place like this...

I was one of your BASIC idols, I feel really good now :) :psychedelic:
Now, where did I put my calc with all my RPG stuff on it?
xlibman - October 17, 2006 11:51 PM (GMT)
I'M THE BEST BASIC CODER IN THE WORLD I SHALL TURN YOU INTO MY UNDEAD MINIONS AND RULE THE WORLD!
j/k in fact i hated back when ppl said ppl cannot do good basic games unless they are kevin_o, like if only me was allowed to do it x.x, I am amazed by some ppl work in BASIC so far in the community
