new tranny too... the LS1s came with the 4L60E which is an electronically controlled tranny. the 700R4s in our cars are hydraulically controllled (which is why I hate them). I don't know if there is a kit to adapt a 700R4 to an LS1.

You'll need 97 Corvette fuel rails. They have a return line, all other LS1s do not... Unless you re-do the whole fuel system as LS1.

You'll need 3rdgen LSX swap specific headers.

You will need to either notch your K-member or get an LS1 swap K-member if you keep AC

Custom motor mounts

Wiring harness

I'm sure there's more. Go on TGO and look for a guy with the tag ghettocruiser. He has an 86 T/A that he did the whole LS1/T56 swap into.

>Sounds complicated and expensive! CJ, save your money and buy a 383 crate motor; put a 750 carb on it, headers, use your 700r4 trannie and blow away 90% of the cars out there! If you're creative, you should be able to do this for between $4,000-8,000! Either get a crate motor, or get a used one somewhere, or build one yourself with reconditioned parts......400+ hp with 400-500 tq.!

Problem is, he'd need a new tranny either way. Stock 700R4s break under stock power levels. Imagine what a 383 will do to it.... doh.gif

A rebuilt 700 with an upgraded valve body would take it! For sure he would have to rebuild the trannie and put upgraded clutch plates, friction bands, planetary gears, etc....

lets not turn this into the other thread , if he wants an ls series motor let him get one. all we can do is help him out with what we know.

LS1 - 700R4 Crank Adapter $34.95 Part#: HP3795
LS1 - 700r4 Flexplate $129.95 Part#: HP4004
from summit .com
look into that if u wanna adapt a 700 to a ls.

you gotta run the accessory pulley drive off of a ls t4th gen or a corvette im not a 100% sure on the corvette pullys though.

ever think of doing a 5.3l vortech motor?it was discussed earlier on in the board , and the total cost would be cheaper, but same effect , just use a ls1 cam/intake and your good.think they said total cost was under 2000

Are you set on a new engine? Cause that is where the biggest expense is going to be. If you would settle for a used LS1 out of a 4th gen or corvette that would be the better option, that way you dont get nickel and dimed with all the little crap... trust me, the little stuff on any car will add up very fast.
As for being different, you will find that my car and mannys are very different, cubic inches do not mean two cars are the same. My car is unique to me, I built my own motor starting with just a bare block and went from there that is why I enjoy my car, not many people can say I did EVERYTHING to my own car.
Having a different engine in a car would mean NOTHING to me if I did not build it and install it myself, it wouldnt be personal to me. Of course everyone has their own opinion on this.

Who are you going to get to install this?

please read this thread over on TGO it has alot of useful information. If you have any questions about that I might be able to help explain stuff, just ask over here.

Have fun.

i want fuel injection...and if im gonna put the work to do an engine swap i want it my way...my friend is tryen to get me to do an LS1 and supe it up but its been done over and over...i want something i can go to a show with and no ones got... i wanna b the car people stand around going wtf.gif in a good way lol

and my reason agenst the 5.3 was i kinda want a big CI engine thats where all this started.. i wanted a small block 427 the ls3 are 376 in my mind its go big or go home do it all the way or not at all

the more i start thinking bout the future i think the iron block will make more sence and its not a big difrence in weight (i read it somewhere jsut not shure where it was)
