Just wanted to shout out Chris over at CK perofmrnace. This is a shop that specializes in transmissions and driveline. They did my rear end rebuild and gear swap (I went from 3.23s to 3.42s). They did an excellent job and the rear axle is even quieter now with the new gears than when I first bought the car. Chris explained to me that the reason why these cars are hard to change gears on is because of the torque arm set-up which requires the pinion to be set perfectly. He took his time and made sure everything was good.

BTW, the car's always in its sweet spot now. Pulls real nice no matter what speed I'm in...

Now to just tune it so it will stoo running on the edge of lean...

He's in Ronkonkoma. www.ckperformance.com

631-218-1989.

Just be prepared to have the car down for awhile. Mine took a long time because of complications. The pinion bolt snapped in my carrier and he was able to salvage it so I wouldn't need to buy another one.

He also build his own parts. I saw some of the transmissions he's working on. Alex also has a tranny built by him too. he really knows his shit.

If you dont mind me asking, how much did this operation cost. I might need to get some gears done on my 4th gen (if i dont just replace the rear).

Hey Al, did CK also weld the axle tubes to your center section?

No, no welding.

Manny, I'm planning on going back out there probably sometime in February or March. I was planning to get the tranny done in January, but I have to push that back since I need to get the suspension done first.

The welding of the axel tubes is done to reduce any possible flexing, it is a reinforcement for strength purposes on our oh so strong 7.625 10bolt rears...
I really dont know for sure if it helps it since I dont think that it is a major point of failure on these rears, it is usually an internal part that fails, not the tubes that are connected to the center section. Im sure it doesnt hurt it though.

I'm more of a nine inch guy lol ...ok help me out here...I've heard of people doing this but I never paid much attention to why....the axle tubes are already welded from the factory right? So they would be re-welded to the centersection? I know on nine inch rears they weld on that rear brace..

Yea...the GM 10 bolt is a weaker unit than the Ford. I had the tubes welded just in case! Even with the Fords, I've seen guys weld that stiffening bar across the back. The pressed-in tubes are def. very weak...need that stiffness for the rear suspension also!

If your an SCCA type of guy you can weld the tube around where the tube enters the housing but dont weld on a brace

axcel tube flex acutually helps in the corners so you can pull more g's
