I was searching around for an aerowing, and came across this pic. I assume its a custom asc built car. check out the targa top. Would this be a possible mod to a hardtop car. And for those of you that dont know, asc was the company that made the regular cars into convertables for gm.

Anything is possible with a sawzall ! (reciprocating saw)

WIll it look good and not leak is another question.

I have heard of hard top to t-top mods. They can be done correctly so i would assume that a good hard to top targa top mod would not be too much harder. I would not suggest you do it yourself. I would leave that to a person who has done that sort of thing before.

The concept of haveing a targa is awesome...

Let's all thank porsche for creating that for a moment...

Now... I'm sure GM thought of giving it a targa like the earlyer vettes but because there is not a spot on the car you can hide it in they thought "hey let's cut them in half and cal them t-tops... That way they fit in the car and you can go anywhere with them on or off... While if we just had targa we'd leave it home... What if you got stuck in rain..?? What you do.. put a garbage bag on the top?

You have to brace the car very well. When you remove the T-Top center bar, the car kinda dips in the middle.

its not just for GM, My friend has an 87 ASC/ Mclaren. Its pretty much a 5.0 fox body mustang but the windsheild and a few other things were modded.

it can be done....fairly easy too...if you have the top to make given car fit the top....first thing i would do...is do custom subrfame connectors...maybe even two sets of them....one on the outside and one on the framerails....maybe some flatstock floor strenghtening.....anything to get the car as stiff as possible....if its a race car...throw a cage in it....then jus cut the t top bar out....do some custom sheetmetal work and make a chanel for the weatherstripping and do it up....pretty much easy....that is if you have the top....do they even sell it....

from my research several years ago, noone has sold a targa top to the public, all have been custom made.
compare the frames of the ttop cars to the convertables, there is some extra stiffening of the verts on the subframe. That is what needs to be done.
