NeXus began in May of 2004 on EZBoard (see the
FAQ for a bit of trivia) as a small set of players who had previously known each other from other RPs. As time went on, the group adapted to the growing number of players and characters, establishing its environment, its purpose, and the drive to keep moving forward.
Since the conception, NeXus has sought to explore the 616 world Marvel created just after the end of the Age of Apocalypse series, when every thing and every one had returned to "normal." This presented players with the opportunity to develop their characters in new, unexpected ways not attempted by Marvel writers or editors. Some chose to keep key events, or changes, made post-1995, but adapted new stories to explain their presence. So, while NeXus continues to maintain its post-AoA 1995 tradition, the real goal is the opportunity to make a difference, to strike out on a new path with characters that have experienced things, or met people, they never had in the comics.
Just after it's one year anniversary, however, EZBoard suffered a severe, debilitating attack. Many threads or character sheets were lost, even after EZBoard attempted to restore most of what had been lost on boards across their servers. Not wanting to stick around and stumble through the pieces, looking for a place that wasn't busily trying to piece itself back together, the leaders of NeXus elected to move over to InvisionFree. Here we reestablished the group, brought over as many character applications as we could, or recreated them, and continued with our storyline.
With the surprising and climatic death of Cyclops, the story demanded it continue. There was still so much to see, to do, to say between characters. The world had changed, diverged notably from Marvel's dictation. Players were forced to leave to handle Real Life issues, some say they unfortunately lost their muse, and their departure was accepted and their contribution praised; more players joined and took up the torch of dropped characters and continued the story valiantly and with passion.
In May 2009, neXus will be open for five years. The players set the tone, guide the events, and make choices for their character that have implications throughout the world. Having marched through hell, tormented by Selene, and assailed by a variety of foes, things are now starting to turn back. A false sense of calm is beginning to grow, even as many fret or watch for the next sign of trouble, and Apocalypse plots to bring about a new Age of Apocalypse in this timeline with the power of a Cosmic Cube!
At the end of our fourth year of NeXus we plan to keep the fire going and offer players and characters a like a chance to truly explore the world around them! A New 616 is born, and it is the players' characters that will ensure the world's continued, peaceful existence, even as they struggle, one against the one, to see their dream fulfilled.
So, we welcome all players that are seeking for a brand new world, filled with characters both new and old (even those first appearing after 1995 can find a place at NeXus), to join us in fashioning out the next Utopia. Whose vision will come to define the shape of the universe itself remains to be seen, but every step of the way is sure to be full of passion and drama to keep viewers and players reading!
NeXus strives to bring the advanced writing skills of our players to the forefront, encouraging quality above quantity, with detail and character interaction driving the dynamic story forward!
Welcome to NeXus!
