Codename: Wing. Character Type: Canon.
Full Name: Edison ‘Eddie’ Thomas Walker. Age: 17. Hair Colour: Reddish-Brown. Eye Colour: Green. Height: 5’7”. Weight: 125lbs.
Affiliation: Helix
Appearance: Hiding behind a mess mop of auburn hair and just above a lob-sided smile, lie a pair of deeply soulful green eyes, but that’s only the first thing’s you see. Beyond that, his body has put on more than a little weight in the last few years, as he was once lean and toned during his brief athletic ‘career’. When he gave it up, following his leg breaks he spent far more time practising flying, as opposed to running, which just didn’t burn up the same amount of calories. Added to this, is his almost constant appetite, which leaves him forever picking and snacking, and despite him having a very fast metabolism, has just left him looking a little chubby, but only just.
Clothing wise, Eddie tries to hide himself away slightly, preferring bigger, baggier fits typically in at least a size larger. This leaves him usually clad in thin sweaters and jeans, as the legs of his pants hang over just long enough to hide most of his old brown boots. Together with this, is a light blue denim shirt he has barely taken off for the last two years.
Where his style comes into its own though, is in the uniform he has been putting together for himself from second hand shops, and the wonder that is eBay. This outfit is based around a faded brown leather biker’s jacket he picked up as the only bidder - Already torn and ripped on the sleeves, he cut both of these back just above the elbow, before spray painting a large Red ‘W’ across the back of it. Where the sleeves are cut, these make room for the skateboarders elbow pads he wears. His left arm also has a strong piece of black stocking bandage, which he’s reinforced with wire, and attached a compass and skydiver’s altimeter onto it. Beyond that, he has a set of kneepads, and thick leather gloves. For his head, he managed to acquire a replica leather flying helmet from circa WW1, and a set of darkly tinted goggles that just conceal his appearance enough to protect his identity.
Since his arrival, he’s been issued his own version of the Helix uniform. The tight fitting bodysuit; designed by Jen Hobbes and coloured in two shades of green, its fashioned unstable molecules and offers added protection for him from the thuds and impacts that come part and parcel with his dodgy landings. A little on the tight and revealing side however, he prefers to wear in under his jacket and the other elements of his original uniform.
Personality: To sum him up, Wing has always been a dreamer, far too busy letting his mind wander and losing himself in his own private fantasy world instead of focussing on the task in hand. This, in part, is something of the inventor’s mindset he’s inherited down through his more famous ancestor, but heavily distilled over the generation. In the times when he has been able to focus on a project for long enough, he has shown the potential to produce some very good results, and this has been most true of his powers.
Realising his powers brought him so much closer to the fantasy life he’d created for himself as a child. Watching the broadcasts of superhuman activity in New York and beyond as a young boy, he dreamed that one day he might become someday be bitten by a radioactive insect, dunked in radioactive waste or even blown up by a radioactive bomb so that he could become one of them to. His X-Gene has realised this but at a cost to his self image, as he now identifies his self worth solely through his gift of flight – that he is of no other real use to the world without it and if he was to lose it, would his life even be worth living anymore?
His lack of concentration does have an additional side-effect as well, as he’s frequently accident prone, falling over or flying into things that he just wasn’t paying enough attention to in the first place – as evidenced by his broken legs, when he was so overwhelmed by just being able to fly, that he gave no thought to how he was ever going to land, or that he just had flight, no invulnerability to physical injury. Of that particularly fact though, he’s now very much aware.
This does lead him onto verbal slip ups as well, as he rarely thinks about what he’s saying, bypassing that section of his brain to come out with the first thing that comes to his mind. His often very brutally blunt manner of speech even left him with a rather embarrassing School Record, as he once managed to talk himself from a two hour after school detention, up to 3 whole weekends, as he continued to dig himself deeper and deeper into a hole with his teacher through sheer verbal diarrhoea .
Weaponry/Personal Belongings: Wing arrived in New York with what few clothes and possessions he could stuff into a rucksack, although his wardrobe has since expanded to his own Helix uniform. The only other item of note that isn’t mentioned in the clothing section is a framed photo of Ellen that she gave him just before he left.
Powers: Wing’s X-Gene gives him the power of self-propelled flight, but it’s a little more complicated than that, because, in reality, Eddie’s powers are actually related to gravity.
Realised by Sir Isaac Newton thanks to an apple shaped bruise on his head, Gravity is one of the four fundamental interactions in nature, being the tendency of objects with mass to accelerate towards each other. Every planetary body, including the Earth, is surrounded by its own gravitational field, because as mass increases, so does the level of attraction, which is why we are ‘pulled’ down towards the planet. This isn’t strictly true, as the planet is attracted to us as well, but it only moves in infinitesimal amount, due to the sheer differences in mass.
Wing’s body is different, as instead of being drawn down towards the Earth, his body absorbs and amplifies this gravitational potential energy, before emitting it as thrust, lifting him up into air. Essentially, rather than flying, his power allows him to ‘fall’ in any direction. Without any conscious thought from Eddie, he experiences ‘normal’ gravity, allowing him to walk on the Earth perfectly normally, however mentally reversing the flow of force would call him to fall upwards into the sky.
Under the laws of physics, at distances close to Earth, gravity (g) is equal to roughly 9.81 m/s, meaning that any object falling will accelerate by this amount. Thus, an object starting from rest will attain a speed of 9.81 m/s after one second, 19.62 m/s after two seconds, and so on. According to Newton's 3rd Law, the earth itself experiences an equal and opposite force to that acting on the falling object, meaning that the earth also accelerates towards the object. However, because the mass of the earth is huge, the acceleration produced on the earth by this same force is negligible.
Eddie’s powers also allow him to amplify the gravitational energy, by around 3 times its base value, allowing him a maximum acceleration of around 30 m/s. Using the equation d= 0.5 g t 2 (distance (m), time (s) ), he can be 15 metres away after 1 second and 60 metres after 2 seconds. Beyond this, we have to incorporate Air resistance, which greatly impedes his maximum obtainable speed. For humans falling through the sky, such as skydivers, air resistance limits them to a terminal velocity of between 190 – 320 km/h, depending on the aerodynamics of the body in motion. Eddie in his uniform can reach around 250 km/h, which is about 69m/s, and the speed he can reach within 5 seconds at maximum acceleration.
His ability to amplify Gravitational energy does carry an additional benefit, as it allows him to carry passengers. This is because his powers only affect his body mass, anything external he is carrying, like clothing, equipment or another person is still affected by gravity in the traditional way (i.e.: straight down). By amplifying his own gravitational pull, he can overcome the opposing force, although this does seriously hamper his speed, and limits him of carrying only a little bit more than his own mass safely.
At some point in his future evolution, he will discover other ways to discharge the gravitational energy, such as through enhancing his strength or projecting energy fields or beams, but that is not for several years yet.
Weaknesses: There is an inherent weakness built into Wing using his powers for flight, in that he just doesn’t have the body for it. Unlike a natural flyer, such as Angel with hollowed bones to reduce his weight, protected eyesight, and a respiratory system that can still thrive in low oxygen. Instead, he suffers from the frailties every standard human body does.
The goggles he wears are essential for protecting his eyes against high winds, whilst he dare not stray above 2,000 metres without an oxygen tank due to the risks of the low oxygen levels above that point. Should he lose consciousness for any reason whilst flying, this would be his most telling weakness, as his powers are consciously controlled. Without active control, his powers reset to base gravity, pulling him downwards. Obviously, if this is done from any height, and he doesn’t stop himself, then he’s going to become a big smear on the concrete.
The other slight flaw is momentum, as sudden direction changes are nigh-on impossible for him at high speed. At slower speeds this is possible, as there are less opposing forces for his powers to work against. Similarly, this applies to his stopping as well, as if it takes him 5 seconds to reach full speed, it’s going to take him the same five seconds to come to a halt as well.
As I brushed upon briefly before, his body has no enhanced resistance to physical injury, stopping him from using his body in flight as any sort of offensive weapon as any sort of impact is going to hurt him just as much as the target, if not more – as evidenced by the pair of broken legs he acquired just as soon as he learnt to fly. He’s tried to protect himself by padding himself up as much as he can, yet still move about comfortably. Obviously, if he hits something at 200 kph, he’s still going to quickly resemble the aforementioned smear.
Other Special Skills/Abilities: Knows how to milk a cow. Unfortunately, that’s about it, apart from his perfect feedback on eBay.
History: Born in Northern Ohio in the late 1980’s, Edison Walker was the only child of Dr. Thomas Walker and his wife, Annabelle, and according to his Mother, could claim direct descendence from his more famous namesake through her family line. It wasn’t something that he was particularly keen on, as it was only something that got laughed about at school… so as soon as he was able to, he insisted all his friends call him Eddie.
Growing up, he soon discovered his family where one of the more affluent of the local area, as his Dad wasn’t only the local Doctor, but his Mother also ran their small farm holding to a quite substantial profit. The money didn’t really bother him, as most of it was simply ploughed back into staffing costs and upgrading machinery, but what he did love, was the acres and acres of fields he got as his own backyard.
At school, it was a different matter, as he hated being shut inside all day, and would spend many a lesson just staring longingly out of the window and into the sky. And it showed, as his marks consistently put him in the lower percentages of the class. Science in particular, was absolutely lost on him as he blatantly displayed none of his ancestor’s aptitude for inventing – In just one semester; he blew up four separate science projects, including one that he wasn’t even his (And no-one could quite work out how he’d managed it either).
It’s not to say his time at school was completely wasted though, far from it, as he started to excel in most of the athletic disciplines in his early adolescence. His performances were so good, that at the age of 12, he’d broken the State Records for the 100 and 200 metres, High Jump and Long Jump in not just his own age group, but at every level up to the under 16’s. It earned him quite a reputation, as one of the judges even muttered during the High Jump, that it was almost like he was flying over the bar. He wasn’t far wrong.
Eddie’s powers had manifested themselves shortly after his 11th birthday, but without a big bang and awakening like most, his came in without so much of a whimper, so that for nearly two years, he wasn’t even aware that he had any. At 13 though, he couldn’t really ignore it, as practising alone in their barn, he jumped over 8 metres in a single bound without really pushing himself… and he knew he didn’t train anywhere near enough to be that good! Another three jumps and he was clearing 11 metres, and now thoroughly convinced that he might have some sort of superpower.
And he just hoped it was to fly.
Well, it wasn’t even so much hope, as an unswerving conviction that this was what he was put upon this Earth to do; to soar through the sky without the aid of a plane. But there was just one flaw in this – he couldn’t take off. Sure, he could jump and hang in the air for a few seconds, but it wasn’t the same thing. No what he needed, was something that didn’t give him any other option but to fly…and the first thing that came to mind was to jump off the roof of the barn.
Two days later, and just after Breakfast, he set out, knowing full well that their Hands were to be down in the bottom field for most of the day. Climbing atop the roof, some twenty five feet above the ground and more, he took one last deep breath and sprinted forward, leaping up into the sky as he reached the far end. And for the first few moments, he thought it had worked, as he launched along straight forward some forty… fifty… sixty feet, before unfortunately he felt his trajectory start to arc downwards, bringing him crashing down into the trees some 90 feet away from the barn with a very large thump, crashing and falling through the branches until he was left, hanging upside down and wedged in between two branches six feet from the ground.
He was stuck there until the evening when his parents found him, explaining it away in that he’d been climbing it and just got stuck when he slipped climbing down. What he couldn’t understand was why he hadn’t managed to stay airborne though, but he was determined to hold onto his self-belief that he could fly. He would just need a better test.
It wasn’t for another three weeks that he’d worked out what he needed to do for his next attempt try his next attempt, and this one was to be do or die. First thing in the morning he made his way to the local landmark, Gibson Ravine which stood at the edges of their land, and where he planned to through himself off. It was easier said than done, as he spent over half an hour psyching himself up for what by all rights should have been his suicide – the Ravine did even have a reputation for claiming 27 lives in the past ten years, with the vast percentage of them being ‘jilted lovers’. His confidence ultimately beat out his self-doubt, and throwing his crutches to one side, he took a jump forward, plummeting down towards the shallow stream hundreds of feet below him.
Whatever the sensation was he was experiencing as he fell, it was flying, but as he watched the water come up on him all too quickly, he felt something in his body shift, and instead of falling down, he was slowing… and starting to fall ‘up’. Looking above him, he watched as he now started to hurtle up towards the clouds, bursting out past the top of the Ravine as quickly as he’d been falling before. From there, he quickly grasped direction changes, as he moved from flying straight up to fly perpendicular to the landscape instead – now he was simply ‘falling’ instead. What he neglected to consider in this early phase though, was how to slow down, or ultimately land.
After half an hour of doing circles and his first loop the loop, it did occur to him, as he feared hitting the ground again as his legs had still not fully healed. Five minutes later, he’d come up with the best option he could think of and jetted back off to the Barn, where he crashed full pelt into the freshly harvested hay bales that stood inside it. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough, as he blasted out the other side and into the wall of the barn, knocking himself senseless.
Coming to a little while later, and pulling his body out of the straw, and the loose bits out of his mouth, he let out a triumphant yell. Followed seconds later by a scream of pain when he realised that his crash had left both his legs broken. He spent the next two weeks in a hospital bed, whilst the Doctor’s reset his legs and was told he’d be spending the next couple of months pretty much housebound. It didn’t really bother him – although he couldn’t fly again for the next few weeks, he had managed it once. But now he just had to focus on getting better at it.
Returning home, his parents witnessed a complete change in their son, as he started to buckle down into his schoolwork – which was a cover for his new obsession, as he’d spend his time poring over books on aviation and aerodynamics to try and get a better grasp of the physics involved in what he was able to do - ultimately, how he could go faster and land. Until he could manage that last one of course, he’d just keep putting himself in hospital. But the weeks soon passed, and once the plaster came off his legs, his practise started again with a renewed vigour.
Over the next six months, Eddie got to grips with the one thing he’d needed all along – restraint. By lots of patient practise night after night, he finally learnt to hover, rather than launching off far too fast and smashing himself into yet another tree. After the hover, came the ten point landing. By this time, he was now well on his way to his fifteenth birthday, and had so far managed to hide his powers from his parents, despite their suspicions about just how clumsy their son truly was. It wasn’t for a lack of excuses on his part – especially the broken legs, which he put down as falling from the hayloft to the ground. The ‘How I got stuck upside down wedged in a tree’ was a minor masterpiece by comparison.
There had been other changes as well since his hospital stay; he used the leg breaks as an excuse to give up his athletic career. He’d realised quite soon after he found his powers, that they’d always been giving him an unfair advantage over the rest of the field, so he bowed out gracefully before he became too well-known. His academic scores did show an upturn as well when his next science project on the History of Aviation came back with the first B+ he’d received in five years and more. He started to spend more time on the Internet as well, as he began another research project, and started to patrol eBay for a few items he decided he needed to progress himself any further, especially if he was going to be a Superhero now.
A few years before, he’d been sat down watching the television as Neal Conan broadcasted the X-Men’s sacrifice in Dallas, and it just left a desire inside the young boy that if he ever had powers like that, then he would use them for the good of others like they did. Now he had grasped a hold on his powers, he had the chance to emulate them. First he needed a costume to hide behind though, and that was where eBay had come in. Now he was able to hide himself behind a padded leather jacket, replica WW1 Flying helmet and tinted goggles… but he only got to use them to practise in for months, as he lived in small town Ohio, not New York City.
Roughly seven months ago, he finally got to unveil “The Mighty Wing” to the public, as during an early evening practise session above one of his family’s fields, he spotted a trail of smoke streaming off into the sky from the direction of the town. Curious, he flew off to investigate only to find it coming from a row of multi-storied townhouses burning seriously out of control, as the fire brigade was struggling desperately to get under control. Landing in a tree opposite, he wondered if there was anything he could do to help, when he spotted a girl waving from one of the top windows, that no-one else on the ground had yet seen. Realising that this was his moment to shine, he took a deep breath before launching himself up into the air and in through her window.
It was only when he landed at the girl’s feet, he realised who exactly who she was – Ellen Richards, a girl in the year below who he’d had a slight crush on since the start of that year, but had managed to exchange a total of 7 words with her since then. Unveiling himself from his disguise as the only way she would trust him to rescue her, he flew her to safety, before leaving to protect his identity further, but after she’d promised to keep his secret safe. In the weeks that followed from that day, they struck up a warm friendship, which quickly evolved into dating. Their relationship progressed well, as he took great pride in demonstrating his powers in front of her, whilst she sat back at watched him lovingly. As their six month anniversary approached though, both of them realised that something had become stale between them, and that they were far better suited to just being friends. Plus she helped him to realise that “The Mighty Wing” really rather sucked as a superhero name, and just “Wing” suited him far better.
After their split, Eddie just seemed lost for a while, as he struggled to focus on his schoolwork, but at the same time, feeling like he was missing out on his purpose. He wanted to do the whole hero thing, and use his powers to their fullest, but he could never do that here as it was just too quiet… and everyone knew that New York tended to get attacked at least on a weekly basis, so his best chance of joining up with the X-Men or the Avengers was to head there.
About a fortnight ago, he left home in the middle of the night, leaving behind only a note to his parents that explained everything about what he had discovered about himself, and what he intended to do, but not where he was going. The only person who knew that was Ellen, who asked only that he stay in contact with her regularly so she wouldn’t worry.
Board History: Its been a madcap, rollercoaster ride for young Eddie so far, that started pretty much as soon as he stepped off the bus and a simple attempt to be a good Samaritan and catch a bag snatcher saw him shot at by an overzealous cop and flee across the rooftops. Fortune then swung his way, as he bumped into Jamie Madrox and Marrow in quick succession and they led him to the door of the Xavier Institute and drafted into the Helix Team.
He was just one of several new arrivals as it turned out, as both Match and Quentin Quire joined them in the meeting; Eddie creating an instant ‘rapport’ with the flame headed Match that saw him with mild burns to his posterior. There wasn’t much time for them to dwell on it however, as the young team were sent to stop a runaway train. For all his nervousness on the journey to their mission though, he excelled himself during it as he went from rescuing trapped passengers at one of the carriages, to persuading the driver to apply the brake when it was safe to do so at the other end before trying to help Jen ‘Gargoyle’ Hobbes take down their team mate Nioji Eisner when his dark side overwhelmed him.
From there, it was back to the mansion to tend to their wounded and the beginning of a worrying trend for Eddie as he went to the medical bay for the first time…
Leaving Nioji to get treated, he flew off to find David ‘Prodigy’ Alleyne and inform him of Jen’s plan for a team building camp out in the Institute grounds, but would also meet Hisako ‘Armor’ Ichiki for the first time and start would become a fast friendship, with possible overtones of something even deeper. David would lead him to his room – sharing a three bed dorm with Julian ‘Hellion’ Keller – before he met up with Hisako again on his way downstairs before they met Mark ‘DJ’ Sheppard.
The Camping trip itself is pretty much a blur for Eddie, but the key points are clear enough, as the three ‘lads’; Himself, DJ and Hellion started to concoct games for the night ahead, whilst the student population bonded over smores, there was even an argument between the ‘expositional’ Prodigy and DJ over his blossoming relationship with Megan ‘Pixie’ Gwynn before the unexpected arrival of Nicholas ‘Wolfcub’ Gleason from the woods. It all faded into insignificance somewhat, however, with the arrival of Kierrok the Daemon as his cairn was shattered. Seemingly underpowered when faced by a monster that pushed the second generation of X-Men to their limits, bravado won over his fear as he jumped to Hisako’s defence when Kierrok turned on her, but it was for nought as he was merely swatted away into the tree line and a serious concussion.
Eddie would be dragged back to the team by Wolfcub, and would come to his senses momentarily when a horde of demonically infused squirrels and vermin swamped them. A squirrel even took a chunk of his earlobe before they were able to put the daemon back down again and then a return to the Medical bay was in order.
A longer stay in the medi bay was in order this time as Eddie himself was the patient, but with most of his ear repaired his memory of the incident was refusing to do the asme as it remained groggy at best. In the interim, Prodigy, Gargoyle and Mercury had left for New York to meet Prodigy’s sister, but following his recovery, he got to see Armor leave with the X-Men for Alcatraz and show Wolfcub upstairs to be the third occupant of the room he shared with Hellion. The two boys mat the young Jebediah ‘Jolt’ Guthrie, who at recently joined the school to be with his older siblings, before a message received over Wing’s communicator told him the other half of their team was in trouble.
The boys met with their recently appointed chaperones, Karma and Dani Moonstar downstairs and hastily assembled the few Helixers to hand to fly out and rescue them from the anti-mutant thugs that held them. The rescue had been pre-empted by Nioji and would have gone effortlessly were it not for Apocalypse calling in his ‘wishes’ and turning the Penance twins into mini Apocalyptoids . Seeking help for their wounded, and warned that the mansion wasn’t a safe place to come home to, they borrowed one of the Brotherhood’s escape pods and found themselves deposited up on Asteroid M.
Asteroid M was not a fun time, as not only did Eddie lose his powers thanks to his distance from Earth’s gravitational field, they also had to deal with Prodigy and Mercury in critical states whilst Wolfcub’s defeatism threatened to destroy what little morale they had left, but Magneto returning to reclaim his kingdom really made their day! In quick succession, the boys found themselves wrapped in the metallic walls as the master of magnetism pondered what to do with them. Wing and Jolt’s mouths pushed him into sending them back to Earth with a punishment as each of the three boys now bore a metal gag wrapped around their mouths, to stop them interrupting him any further.
Arriving back in the mansion, the boys tried to negotiate carrying Prodigy to the Medical Bay (Yes, he was going there again), until Eddie’s powers returned with a bang – literally – against the roof of the hanger. This was followed by Hellion’s arrival, who removed his gag from him before he inadvertently dived through a portal one of the Penance twins had created to transport David straight to the Medi bay. He was left to confront the other half of the Twins, but was talked out of it by Professor Xavier, whom he met for the first time. The arrival of the Stepford Cuckoos only served to smooth all the remaining issues over, as David found the care he needed and Eddie even found time to use the medical equipment to diagnose the erratic behaviour his powers had been exhibiting
It only took a few moments for its diagnosis to come back, but instead of giving a reason why his powers to fly were fluctuated wildly, it described his powers as being localised gravity control instead. He didn’t have time to ponder it though, as David recovered enough to be greeted by the Ohio Farmboy and Celeste of the Cuckoos, but as neither of them could provide him the knowledge on what had happened to his sister since he was hurt he staggered out of the room unfulfilled, whilst Celeste left to rejoin her sisters.
This left Eddie alone and with little else to do he flew off through the mansion and fortuitously came into Mark and Jeb in the Library. The trip reconnected over the events of the last few days, before the idea arose of trying out the Danger Room. The thread is ongoing….
Sample Roleplay:
It was the smoke that had attracted him over, but sat in a tree opposite he watched as the Firemen desperately tried to get the blazing row of houses under control. This was definitely an inauspicious start to his career as ‘The Mighty Wing’, he realised, just sitting there feeling useless whilst watching real heroes go about there work.
And then he spotted a damn good reason for him to be here after all, as banging against one of the roof windows, was a shadow – from this range he couldn’t tell who they were, or even their sex, but there was definitely someone there. Looking down at ground level, it was clear no-one had spotted them, and … without anymore thought to the consequences he launched himself off, arcing across the street before crashing in through the closed window, and landing on the floor inside amid a shower of broken glass.
“What the hell!” A high pitched voice screamed out at him, as Eddie brushed some of the little glass shards off his shoulder and helmet. Looking up, he realised it was a girl from his school. One that he liked far too much to do anything about – but who was now grasping a very thick book.
“I’m The Mighty Wing. I’m here to rescue y..” He started to say, looking down as he picked himself up off the floor, only to be cut off with a heavy blow across the side of his head as he started to look back up to her again. Stunned, Wing crumbled down to the floor again.
“What the hell was that for!” Quickly regaining his composure, he tried to stand up again, rubbing the side of his head in an attempt to somehow numb the bruise which was quickly springing up there.
“Stay away from me you freak!” She screamed back at him, whilst Eddie looked up at the girl through his now dislodged goggles – one lens sitting low on his cheek, the other high above his nose – not realising quickly enough that his disguise was effectively blown.
“I’m trying to rescue you… you didn’t have to hit me.” Still rubbing his head, he turned away to reset his goggles, but it was too late.
“Oh my god ! Walker?” Her voice a mixture of exclaim and surprise, Eddie turned back to look at her, panicked. Through seeing most of his face and hearing his voice, she managed to put 2 + 2 together far too quickly for his liking. Maybe a convincing disguise wasn’t as simple as just putting on a pair of spectacles and wearing your underpants inside the trousers after all.
“No, no, no” He replied, flustered and unable to make eye-contact with the girl, Ellen. “I’m the Mighty Wing.”
She snorted a laugh. “The Mighty Wing. That’s really the best you could come up with Eddie.”
“Hey! What’s wrong with the Mighty Wing?” He tried to defend himself, but focussing on completely the wrong part of her statement to defend himself against, before he coughed loudly. That brought his attention back to where it should be, as he remembered the smoke currently streaming in from under the door.
“Well, maybe we can discuss what you think is a better name for me after we’re somewhere that isn’t on fire.” He replied, pointing at the rapidly growing cloud of smoke behind her. With a nod she agreed, walking over to the window and wrapping her hands around his neck.
“Do your stuff then, Wings”
“Wish us luck” He gulped, remembering that he’d only ever flown alone. Wrapping his arms around her waist, he pointed them towards the window and hoped for the best. Like somehow she’d forget who he really was…
