Title: Map Ideas
Description: for anyone to post
Ninjasoup - July 10, 2005 01:42 PM (GMT)
Well just to kill some time I just decided to make a map idea I have had for this game. I don't expect to be a team member or anything, I just made this for people to post their maps and people can coment on them. maybe they could even be made into real maps.
MapHeres the key
-light blue line: Area for the re teams base teleporter
-red box: Spawn for the red team
-purple box: Area for a elevator (to bring people up or down, you just need to press up or down
-gray box: GF door activator (can only be activated with a melee attack)
-gray line: GF door
-yellow box: Place for a one sided door (can only be opened from the underside)
The small tunnels can be only acssesed by small creatures, so the big characters can only go on one way currently, and I do know that for a while there will only be Samus, im just thinking ahead.
What do you think?
Dead_Moon - July 10, 2005 02:46 PM (GMT)
That looks pretty good, make it when the map maker comes out.
Darkblade Shinobi - July 10, 2005 10:05 PM (GMT)
I am not a map evaluator, and in no way is my opinion that of Prime and DS's. That being said, the map's actual layout was done quite well. However, some of the spaces are a tad cramped, which would make it difficult for the bigger characters to get through. Also, the map lacks "gimmicks." There are no lava, phazon, turrets, false floors and walls, teleportation pads, cracked walls and upgrade/health spawn points anywhere. Though the upgrade points could just as well be added later, however, so they're not much of a problem at this point. The overall design is very aesthetically pleasing, however, I doubt people would enjoy this level for that. The structure, without "gimmicks," feels like a rat race. So, please, take my suggestions to heart and remodel your map with at least some of my suggestions. Perhaps you should add some block formations that mean something in particular to you, or a formation that would be placed in all of your maps, making it like your own personal map signature. Ninjasoup, this is your map, and you should make it recognizable at that. Have a nice day. :D
PS. Don't get me wrong, I like your map's design. This is just a bit of constructive criticism.
Ninjasoup - July 10, 2005 10:16 PM (GMT)
Well I have no idea what most of the objects such as a turret look like. If someone could give me some sprites of what they look like and what their functions will be that would be useful.
And this topic isn't just about my maps. People can post their own creations too.
Edit-oh ya and it is ment to have cramped areas for only small sized charatchers to go through
Dead_Moon - July 10, 2005 10:32 PM (GMT)
Great comments DBS that would help his map a lot, and ninja it doesnt matter what they look like just put down a different colored dot to represent something. Or like, a dotted line for a fake wall.
Darkblade Shinobi - July 10, 2005 11:03 PM (GMT)
My belief is that a map should be available to all characters. Isn't that the purpose of Net Mission, to allow people to fight with their favorite characters? They never mentioned anything about size.
Ninjasoup - July 10, 2005 11:09 PM (GMT)
Thats why I didn't make the entire thing in small areas. And this wouldn't be a deathmatch map, it would be more of a team-type map, so character choice is part of the stratagy.
Darkblade Shinobi - July 10, 2005 11:18 PM (GMT)
A large character would have almost no maneuverability at all, which would disable them from finding rare powerups and make them vulnerable to sniping by smaller creatures. This would potentially unbalance the map.
Ninjasoup - July 11, 2005 12:09 AM (GMT)
Well, this map was basicly made with the thought in mind that only smaller characters would be in it, maybe Prime could include a level restrictions part of the map maker.
Darkblade Shinobi - July 11, 2005 12:18 AM (GMT)
Maybe. I still stand for equal representation though.
Dead_Moon - July 11, 2005 12:48 AM (GMT)
I think that if there is tunnels taht only smaller units can go in, then there has to be a bunker or a couple of turrets or something in the big rooms to even things out. To have cover and to take out snipers for the big units, try that ninja.
Darkblade Shinobi - July 11, 2005 01:38 AM (GMT)
Ultimate Idea!
Have the tunnels made out of crumbly rock that can be blown up by a Vigilance Turret in the main room!
Ninjasoup - July 11, 2005 02:18 AM (GMT)
Maybe when Prime gets here he can tell me about some of the placeable objects and make some basic sprites.
Man, a lot of brainstorming has gone on here today.
Dead_Moon - July 11, 2005 02:20 AM (GMT)
Thats a good idea, so then the teams can decide to blow it for a tactical advantage or not.
PrimevalDarkness - July 11, 2005 01:46 PM (GMT)
Nice map. As for bigger characters, i think there will be a limit factor for the map maker to deal with.
Ninjasoup - July 11, 2005 01:59 PM (GMT)
Hey Prime, could you give some descriptions about some of the objects and give me an estimate of how big they will be?
Oh and everyone, this is a topic for all people to post their maps
Nova - July 11, 2005 04:00 PM (GMT)
Why don't you make a station which was destroyed. So the gravity thing is broken and you can float around the station... I can just imagine Thardus in there!
Dead_Moon - July 11, 2005 04:06 PM (GMT)
THat might get a little complicated, but its a good concept.
Here is a map that I made, I made it for deathmatch but it could be modified with bases for other modes.
Darkblade Shinobi - July 11, 2005 07:50 PM (GMT)
The map of yours is slightly cluttered...
I think that maps should have adjustible gravity. Maybe I'll make one in my spare time.
Even better! Reverse gravity!
Ninjasoup - July 12, 2005 01:39 AM (GMT)
And here is Ninjasoups map of the day! Well, sort of -_-
*trumpets play*
HereI have named this map Chazo Pyramid
And here is the key.
Red- Red spawn point
Dark Blue- Blue spawn point
Dark yellowish(1)- Known Powerup spots
Yellow(2)- One-sided doors
Green(3)- Normal doors
Purple(4)- Elevators
Gray(5)- Elevator switches
Light Blue(6)- Destroyable walls
I have only done the first half, and I didn't put anything in the bottom yet just to make things easier.
Here is how I think about layers of vision will work in this map.
Outside layer-What you see from the outside without going in any doors or up, or down elevators. You can only see the outside area.
Inside layer- After going into a door into a closed area, you can see the outside and the layer area you are in
2nd inside layer- You have vision of the inside and outside layers and the one area youu are in.
Now here is how elevators work (I hope you can put them in the game Prime)
An elevator is activated from the bottom by a switch that you activate by doing a meele attack on it. After you activate the elevator, it must go up to the top before it can go down. Once to reaches the top, the elevator sits there for 3 seconds and then goes back down. Multiple people may be on an elevator at once. Friends or foes. Use you imagination for the kind of sneak attack you can do from behind the fake wall :D
Well THAT was a long post.
The # key on the sheet didn't come out :( but I fixed it by putting the colors
Dead_Moon - July 12, 2005 02:43 AM (GMT)
I don't have anything to say about my map except that I could make them to be on the team! lolol I want to be but don't put me on it prime if it's only to shut me up because that would suck.
HereThis map was made with metroid prime and deathmatch modes in mind because I didn't add bases yet.
EDIT: Whoops, I forgot to post on ninja's map! Well, for the "first half" of a map, that is
very good. But I can see a problem with your elevators. Camping. If you don't make other ways out people will just shoot eveyone that comes up them, fix that? I like how there are multiple entrances into the pyramaid and how there are one-sided doors, very creative. It is a lot more detailed than my maps but I think they will both work just as well because sometimes simple is very fun, just to test actual ability, in other words, no way im flat out admitting yours is way better than mine :P
Ninjasoup - July 12, 2005 02:58 AM (GMT)
Well your map is more of non-stratagy team and normal deathmatches. Mine is more made for specialty games like CTF and King of the hill. For which one is better, it really depends on what kind of player is playing the game.
So, what does everyone else think about Dead_Moon's map and my map?
Dead_Moon - July 12, 2005 03:04 AM (GMT)
Ok, i'll work on a CTF map tonight, prolly won't be able to post it till morning though, *Tune in tomorrow for "Great maps of the 21st century"!!!*
EDIT: Nvm I finished it fast, a rough draft of my full idea, outside of the phazon mines, a map built around a bridge. Sorry the wrinting is messy im bad at that kind of writing.
Phazon Bridge
Darkblade Shinobi - July 12, 2005 04:14 AM (GMT)
I prefer Ninjasoup's map. It's cleary, more concise, and definitely more creative. Dead_Moon's maps are slightly cluttered and at the very least should be a larger image, though that doesn't really factor into the actual map.
Dead_Moon - July 12, 2005 01:40 PM (GMT)
I was just concepting, I will draw the map actual size and redo a couple of places now if you want to see it full. And there will be a way to get over the phazon pit.
EDIT:
Phazon Mines (real map) Here is the real deal, the other was a first draft, do not lose hope in me yet! lol.
Key: Purple=Phazon
Green=Door
Orange=Breakable Blocks
Red=Red Spawn and Flag
Blue=Blue Spawn and Flag
Pink=Turret(kinda see the shape lol)
IMPORTANT: Dark Red lines are NOT included in the map, they are just me seeing if the scale of samus being 4 pixels high about for this map would work, and it does, so that is the scale, Samus=4 pixels high.
Is it still cluttered DBS?
Nova - July 12, 2005 02:17 PM (GMT)
Great. Somebody in this school must of posted inappropiate picture on image shack as it's banned. <_<
Dead_Moon - July 12, 2005 02:24 PM (GMT)
Oh, thats too bad, last year near the end of the year in my school everyones email got shut down because of something like that.
Darkblade Shinobi - July 13, 2005 03:39 AM (GMT)
That map is a lot better. :D The only gripe I have left is that larger characters would be restricted...
Nova - July 13, 2005 09:41 PM (GMT)
Here's my
Map. A lava place and aqua. Only problem is that it's really ment for 1 player.
Darkblade Shinobi - July 13, 2005 10:55 PM (GMT)
I don't think that'd map would ever make into NM...
Nova - July 13, 2005 10:57 PM (GMT)
Darkblade Shinobi - July 13, 2005 11:01 PM (GMT)
It's because of exactly what you said. Net Mission is multiplayer. There's not really any room for a single player map.
Dead_Moon - July 14, 2005 02:21 PM (GMT)
Yeah, it actually looks like a great map for any single player metroid game, but not here... Thanks DBS for my map being "a lot better", I just dislike bigger characters, and they wouldn't have to be restricted because big ones could be the last defense on top, in the turrets and in front of the flag while the little ones go below and across to steal the other teams flag.
Darkblade Shinobi - July 14, 2005 07:32 PM (GMT)
:/ Sounds like an excuse for reduced mobility.
Dead_Moon - July 15, 2005 01:37 AM (GMT)
Weel, ..... ... mayyybe. I can work on it. I will add a whole top area for bigger characters to get to the flags, how does that sound.
Darkblade Shinobi - July 15, 2005 03:21 PM (GMT)
Much much better. It'd also be really neat if certain walls would have to be destroyed with larger characters.
Dead_Moon - July 15, 2005 05:18 PM (GMT)
Here, the brown would be testing if the bigger characters would fit (10x3 pixels)
Phazon Mines RevisedThe same key applies, except also red= walls that can only be broker by "bigger characters".
I personally think this map would be quite entertaining, people can put their own upgrades in, just imagine them wherever you want.
kraid_is_da_bomb - July 18, 2005 07:54 AM (GMT)
Dead Moon, your maps are great, But the bases are too close together. You should put one on te top and one on the bottom, They dont have to be symmetrical.
EDIT: I made myself a map! Its a CTF map, so please give me some feedback so I can update it!
Red and Blue squares: Red and blue spawn points.
Green squares: Power-ups.
Orange doors: One way doors (arrow denotes which way).
Blue doors: normal doors.
Pink "doors": These are not actually doors, but breakable walls.
Purple Columns: These are elevator shafts, just stand on the bottom or top to call it to you.
Light blue: Grapple hook blocks.
Hazy blue and Hazy red: Denotes the boundries of the red and blue bases. If enemy is in boundry, team members will be notified of this.
Feedback please!
Dead_Moon - July 18, 2005 04:07 PM (GMT)
Wow kraid thats great! Its a little square but we dont yet know if thats the only way you can create it in the mapmaker so thats fine... I like it symmetrical I will make a different one to please you though. lol. I like how your map is very spread out and has lots of spawn points... Maybe there could be more blue doors to make it a little more separated, but otherwise its awesome. Nice and big too.
kraid_is_da_bomb - July 18, 2005 09:30 PM (GMT)
lol, thanks! You can make it Symetrical if you want! The reason I made it out of boxes I forgot to add! I Wanted to call It "Ceres Station", So its a space station.
