Recently I've been watching SM again (ah, how I loved when I was like 7) and her laughter cracked me up like always :P

My favorite senshi in Sailor Moon is definately Mars. It's in PGSM that she completely won me over (and of course, thus I am a member of this forum and a fan of the wonderful Keiko Kitagawa) -- but her manga version pwns, too! The only version of her I don't like is the anime version -- I wish they had stuck to the "cool" persona of Mars instead of reducing her to the typical boy-crazy, overly chirpy inner senshi. But in the anime, Pluto and Saturn are my favorites. Saturn is cool: I think her glaive and the ability to destroy entire worlds at leisure is probably what makes her so awesome. But Pluto is the prettiest in the anime (MINUS her ugly business suits: The one ugly purple one, and the one even uglier maroon one. And she wants to be a fashion designer? What the hell?)
Sailor Mars (Sailor Moon) ~She's so pretty!

Sailor Pluto (Sailor Moon) ~She's also so pretty! Minus the anime civilian clothes!

(That manga dress is one sexy dress, though :P)

I've to say I agree / have similar views w/ most of what you said above, ThirdEarth. :)

And she can create worlds, too! B) In one Stars episode, she created a micro galaxy btn her palms. She also has healing powers, much like Princess Sailor Moon in PGSM, who also has the power to destroy worlds.

And Pluto is my favorite Senshi, too!

[Re: Your pics] Mars's manga version is awesome! And yeah, that Pluto dress is uber sexy - my eyes would pop out if I saw someone like her dressing like that in a ball. lol

BTW, Saturn & Pluto also seem to be close to each other. :)

Ditto! I would so get a girl-crush on someone looking like her, wearing a dress like that. If I were Endymion, I would definately go for her! Unfortunately, that would screw up the whole entire SM universe. But who cares about Chibi Usa anyways? Plus I always felt so bad for her! She was like: Endymion :( and I was like: Awwwwww, Pluto!

Re Saturn: I should've remembered that! But it's been a while since I've watched Stars. In any case, Saturn is pretty hardcore!

Re Saturn and Pluto: I figure it's because Haruka and Michiru go running off together, so it's only natural that Pluto and Saturn should be close. They probably have jousts with their overly long weapons in their spare time and compare the shininess of the garnet orb and the blade of Saturn's glaive. :P

lol

The 2 even wear similar-looking princess gowns in Takeuchi's illustrations.

I think Endymion/Mamoru is an idiot in the manga for not choosing Pluto, & in PGSM for not choosing Hina. :P I know I'd go for these 2 wonderful ladies if I were him. lol

Well, the PGSM Usagi doesn't bother me nearly as much as the anime Usagi, so if I were Endymion, I might still go for Usagi in the PGSM series vs. Hina. But if he DID go for Hina, that would sure save alot of trouble in the PGSM universe. They wouldn't have to bother with the whole Princess Usagi going mad and destroying the entire world thing :P

Takeuchi's illustrations are fantastic, btw. I love the official Sailor Moon art books and stuff: It really has some cute group pics such as......

*sniffles* u keep reminding me that sailor moon is out of print. it was (and still is) one of my absolute FAVORITE shoujo mangas EVER! and naoko's style is BEAUTIFUL. i dunno why she changed it---she drew them with SUCH elagance. i've been wanting to start a petition to tokyopop to rerelease the series in the original format without american translations on their names. i would collect every single volume in a heartbeat.

did anyone get tokyopop's "SMILE" magazine? it was the original "shojo beat" before it became an entire manga book like "shonen jump." it had so much love for sailor moon that it ran the entire series (instead of just from vol. 1-4 like they did with other mangas) in the magazine. and the magazine characters (niko niko and phut phut, lol) always dressed like sailor moon characters (and phut phut is a BOY! lol) at the most random times. i literally cried when they finished the series (with a HUGE tribute to the manga that they say helped make tokyopop famous). ppl wrote poems, songs, submitted fan art. what a BEAUTIFUL issue. a few months after they discontinued the magazine. :( maybe ppl weren't buying it as much without sailor moon. i don't know...

what a beautiful, wonderful thing. for all the teasing and name calling on "moonies" naoko's story about love, friendship, loyalty, and perseverence trancedes time and cultures and languages like no other shojo manga. to date, it's her greatest work yet, which is sad and wonderful at the same time. the anime was HORRIBLE compared to the manga. thank god naoko refused to let there be an OAV series or it would be ruined.

i miss sailor moon. can u tell? *sniffles* if it wasn't for that i would've never gotten so deep in the japanese culture! there would be no IKK and even if keiko got big without a headstart as sailor mars i would never know who she was. *sniffles* *sighs*

Neither do I - I actually think the PGSM Usagi is adorable, & Sawai has done a superb job in portraying her! I said I'd choose Hina because (1) she's a wonderful young woman, & (2) Usagi is just a 14-y.o. kid - Mamoru you pedo! :D

Sade, what you wrote above is so moving. :) Pity that I don't have time to respond to it (it'd be quite long lol).

AHH!! I want that Saturn doll from the musical version. And I love the way she poses in the first two pics you uploaded, Rika-Chicchi.

And to Sade, yes your post was great. All I have to say is that I think Sailor Moon will live on. I mean, just when we thought it was over, a live action version came out. And the musical lasted till 2005 (correct me if I'm wrong). In my opinion, that's really impressive. It's been more than 15 years since Sailor Moon came out, that's almost as old as me. It's also my absolute favorite manga and anime of all time. I can't get enough of it and I'm never gonna get tired of it or forget how many people loved and still love it. It really is wonderful and I am more than grateful to have gotten into it, because it is the same with me, if it wasn't for Sailor Moon I would have never gotten into Asian culture (well, it's very unlikely, I'm not sure about NEVER) and been introduced to the world of manga, anime, dramas, music, etc. It's a great experience. And I'm SURE that whatever it might be (whether it's a show, a book, etc.), we WILL see more of Sailor Moon in the future.

Now, back to the real topic of this thread. I like all characters in SM, but if I had to choose a favorite, it would be a tie between Sailor Mercury and Sailor Mars. I used to be a HUGE fan of Mercury as you can tell by my username, but Mars was always second, but just recently I have grown to like her SO much more, to the point where she might even surpass Mercury by just a little. In the manga, anime, and ESPECIALLY PGSM (thanks to our wonderful Keiko who portrays her SO well), she really is an unforgettable character.

As for my favorite pictures of them:
(Posted Image) (Posted Image) (Posted Image) (Posted Image)

I love the reprint covers, wish I could buy them.
I think Naoko's style is beautiful, too. I agree that she makes every character look so elegant and graceful in the manga (even if their heads are a little big :P).

Credits to Mangastyle of course.

It's actually the best one I've ever seen. :) (There're also several quality Saturn figures after it, but they're, in my view, not as good as it in pose, expression, etc.)

The 1st one is the 12 y.o. "S" version, while the 2nd is the 10 (?) y.o. "Stars" version. When they're placed side-by-side, you can compare their various differences. :)

That's its historical significance I'd say - it's contributed to the mutual understandings/appreciations among different nations/cultures, &, hence, peace. :)

Ditto. :) And the "big heads" is a manga tradition to make the characters child-like &, hence, cuter, which can be traced back to Disney's influence.

[EDIT]
Naughty Ami is reading a "love book" in bath. :P (And it's been confirmed by - the equally naughty - Takeuchi herself. lol)

Same, not like I've seen a lot, but it's perfectly made. It looks very elegant no?

Haha, the question mark after you said "10 y.o." tells me you have no idea how old she was (nobody actually does). And I've always wondered how they knew how old she was after she was reborn. I mean she grew very fast, is there like a number we can work with to calculate how many hours is an actual year to her? It's a mystery.

Really? Thanks for informing me as I was clueless about that. But personally, I never really found it that cute. lol

Yup. And the stacked books even have titles. I wonder if those are titles to real books. And that one drink on the floor has a name too.

Edit

Just googled them. Most of the books are real, but I'm not sure about the drink.

Tezuka, the late godfather of manga, has cited Disney characters' influence on his influential character designs.

I guess those books are hers or her hubby's. Well, at least that mineral water is real, lol & I highly suspect that 1985 white wine is, too, tho I've no idea what it exactly is. lol
