TUTORIAL BY DAYJO ASPEN

In this tutorial, you will learn to create a simple banner similar to this:

1. Create a new image, mine is 500*200. Press D to reset your colours.
Go to Filter > Render > Clouds.
Go to Filter > Stylize > Extrude with these settings:
[Pyramids]
[Size: 40]
[Depth: 30 - Random]
Click OK.

2. Go to Filter > Distort > Polar Coodinates.
Make sure it is Rectangular to Polar.

3. Go to Image > Rotate Canvas > 90 CW.
Go to Filter > Stylize > Wind.
Click OK.

Now Press CONTROL + F (or go to Filter > Stylize > Wind with the same settings)

Image > Rotate Canvas > 90 CCW.

4. Now Go to Filter > Stylize > Find Edges. Your Image should now look something like this:

5. Now, to add some color. Click Image > Adjustments > Color Balance.
Play around with the settings until you get a colour you like.

6. Then go to Filter > Blur > Radial Blur with these settings:

Finally do Filter > Artistic > Plastic Wrap with the default settings.

You have finished your background!

7. Now, choose your images you want to go on your banner, like my zelda ones. And set their layer style to Luminosity

8. Now for the border:
Create a new Layer (CONTROL + SHIFT + N). Name this layer "Border".

Select the Polygon Lassoo tool:

Hold shift and click on your banner to begin creating a border.

Go all the way around until you have finished, now you can unhold shift and connect the border line up.

Now inverse the selection by pressing CONTROL + SHIFT + I or going to Select > Inverse.

9. Go the gradient tool and make sure its set to do Forground to Background. Draw a gradient from bottom to top like in the image below:

Set the Border Layer style to Hue.
Now open up that layer's Blending Options by double clicking the layer in the Layers Tool window.
Add:
Drop Shadow
Inner Shadow
Bevel and Emboss

The default settings should be alright but you might want to play around with them.

Now, add some text with the text tool, give it a nice soft drop shadow and a bevel and there you are your finished banner!

sorry for the lack of images, its a bit silly that this 'graphics' forum only lets me post 10 images :( .. oh well I hope you can still work it out..

A couple of pictures missing :D

Dayjo - March 27, 2005 01:11 PM (GMT)
what do you mean?

also, there is a limit to how many pictures you can put up anyway :( ... I think that there are enough up there to help the text make more sense. Without them it would work, but I thought that maybe picture might be good to illustrate and to help people make sure they are doing the right thing.

The max amount of pictures you can put in one post is ten.

All the pictures seem to show up fine for me.

I liked the tutorial. And the pictures are useful. :)

I'm pretty sure they're expecting a picture somewhere in here:
