Title: Logmein.com doesn't work with foxyproxy
Description: Logmein.com doesn't work with foxyproxy

I just installed foxyproxy the other day and it works great except when i try to remotely access machines using logmein.com (the free service).
it works fine up to the point where i can authenticate to the machine but when it is supposed to open the machine's screen i get an error and if i open the deails i get some proxy related errors (can post if needed but probably easier to just try it yourself since it's free anyway)

it might have to do with their plugin, but it worked fine before i started using foxyproxy.

any help appreciated.

thanks

Hello,

When reading How It Works, you'll see:

QUOTE
With the customer's permission, this small .exe file automatically downloads to the remote PC. It's the interface through which Technicians communicate with Customers and conduct remote support.

This means Firefox is not used for the underlying connection to the remote machine. The application is beyond control of FoxyProxy because of that. I recommend you contact the support people or read their help files to see how you can get the .exe to use a proxy.

By the way, if you are using Windows, have you tried Remote Desktop? It comes with Windows free.

as far as i know firefox is used for the client the program which downloads to the machine is their 'server' - which has it's own proxy settings. (and it works if i disable foxyproxy and configure a firefox proxy manually.

granted it it possible that the browser plugin queries firefox for proxy settings(dunno if/how that works ;), but firefox itself doesn't have any because foxyproxy stores config elsewhere. (assuming it is doing this is there any way to make firefox return foxyproxy's settings - for the current url - when it is asked?)

Hi,

I really can't help you with this. I recommend you use VNC for Unix/Linux/Mac or Remote Desktop if using Windows.

If you must use logmein.com, then try this:
  • Disable FoxyProxy's Connection Settings for the proxy you want to use. This will update Firefox's preference settings--the settings that logmein.com probably reads
  • Enable FoxyProxy
Now FoxyProxy will work as usual, but hopefully logmein.com will read Firefox's settings as usual, too. FoxyProxy does not use Firefox's proxy settings so there is no conflict.

Good luck,
-Eric
