I think Evan may have another shot at tweet of the week with this one:

QUOTE
EvanLysacek    I hit my head on the ceiling for the third time today. I think I exceed the height limit for the country of Japan

Love it!!

I just saw that tweet, too. So funny!

When we visited Japan, my parents and I were riding in an elevator and I swear we were the tallest ones there. We're very tall ... NOT [my dad was 5'5" and my mom and I are both at 5'2"].

I'm 5'9", and while in Japan last summer, I almost hit my head a couple of times. I'm surprised he hasn't hit his head more often.

Such a funny tweet! :lol2:

Poor Evan. He already stands out in the skating world for his height. In Japan, he must feel like a giant! But he's so funny & self-deprecating about it all.

It's OK, Evan. Lots of women ADORE tall guys!

Here's some idle chatter from me:

Lately when I've thought about Evan, the old rock-and-roll song "Brown Eyed Handsome Man" starts playing in my head. It just fits him. :B

I will readily admit I am a sucker for those brown eyes of his. So lovely ... :cloud9:

Chuck Berry and Buddy Holly both recorded the song, but my favorite version is one Paul McCartney did in the '90s. Paul's "Brown Eyed Handsome Man"

"Way back in history 3,000 years, in fact ever since the world began
There's been a whole lotta good women shedding a tear
For a brown eyed handsome man
A lot of trouble for a brown eyed handsome man."

I can't understand in what kind of situation he hit his head on the "ceiling". Even in Japan, ceiling is usually much higher than his height. If it was a door frame or car room ceiling, it is understandable.
By the way, I heard two girls behind my seat at SOI talking about this today. They put his tweet into a web translation site and were trying to decipher it. It was funny.

My hubby went to Japan for business once in '84, as a reporter invited by Shizuoka, and more of an oddity there at 6'5" and thin. Even went on TV, drinking green tea, and was filmed using their technology.

Also went to Tokyo, and talked to Mike Mansfield, then trade rep, also talking minor league baseball in Butte, Montana. No matter any other reason for meeting, guys talk ball. He loved the noodle bowls at the baseball game.

Fun trip, and a real stand-out. Have the most precious photo of 10 Japanese and Alan lined up, all about at his waist high. He loved the people he met, and something so new.

Last summer, we took a three-week trip to Japan, Australia and Hong Kong. We took along DD's friend (I'll call her Nicole). One thing Nicole really enjoyed was how friendly the schoolchildren are in Japan. They always said hello to us, often asked if we needed directions, and were just a treat to talk to. I think they liked having the opportunity to speak English with us. One of Nicole's most treasured photos from the trip is of her and a group of these kids with the deer at Nara.

Japan has some of the nicest people you'll ever meet, that's for sure.

Nessats, that's a wonderful trip, with such contrasts. Some lifelong memories there, I bet.

I went to Japan about 3 weeks after the Nagano Olympics as part of an all expenses paid college Spring break study trip. We went to Osaka, Kobe, Nara(stayed in a riyokan and had Kirin and raw fish for breakfast), and Tokyo. Similar to the skaters' itinerary, we caught the Bullet train in Kyoto and took it to Tokyo. This was a study trip(food marketing) with some sightseeing interspersed. As Nessats said, some of the nicest people I've ever met and I also don't recall ever having issues with doorways and I am 5ft 8in tall so a liitle shorter than Evan but not much. I can actually stand eye to eye with him whenever I see him in person :) In any event, it was truly a trip of a lifetime and I would love to go back one day and maybe even catch a skating show;)

What is Kirin? Kirin beer? It's not usual to have beer for breakfast. And raw fish is also rare for breakfast unless the ryokan/hotel is very near to the sea. Usually grilled fish is served.
By the way, SOI cast wrote their messages to Japanese fans for the program booklet of the show. Some of them mentions sushi. Is it so attractive for tourists? It's interesting. Evan's message is very short, just "Thank you."

Yes Kirin beer  It was so long ago now but I specifically remember the fish being served cold.

The World Championships are being held in Tokyo this year in March. Now that would really be some experience!! Daisuke Takahashi will be trying to defend his world title from last year. Evan said he will be cheering for him.
