Title: Carmen or not to Carmen
Description: ...that is the question

Megi - November 12, 2006 03:56 AM (GMT)
If Evan decides to keep "Carmen" it will be, from my perspective, both good and bad news, that's why I picked other.

Good, because it's a bad idea to fix something that ain't broken, especially in the middle of the season with all the major events approaching soon.

Bad, because I'd love to see Evan come up with a new program, to hopefully step up with the choreography, etc. But if he opts for keeping "Carmen" you want' catch me complaining at all since it's a great program that suits his style of skating exceptionally well, and most important off all, it's been performed clean or close to clean in every outing so far. Not a bad thing to say about a program, non?

I voted other too-

I love his Carmen program so much, but at the end of the last season I had wanted him to retire that program just because it was so special to that year. I wanted that program to be "captured" in the Olympic/ '06 Worlds spirit. However, Carmen has given him a silver and a gold at his GP events this season...
But I guess I do want him to make a new LP program for the GPF and use it for the rest of the season!

Boy, this is a tuffy!! I voted "other" also. I absolutely love Carmen - and it just gets better all the time. I'll be really sad to see it go. It's risky to change in the middle of the season when it's going so well for him and he's still polishing his new SP.

However, if something really grabs him for a new one, I'd love to see it. Makes me a bit nervous for him to be breaking in something new at Nationals when that's his goal for the year - according to the pc, anyway.

I'll defer to his judgment and enjoy whatever he brings to us. I know that's a cop out, but I'm really glad I don't have to make the decision. :hide:

I think I agree with you on the "other".
I love Evan's Carmen - it's a very special program of his to me. He has had so much success with it, he always seems very comfortable skating it and it brings so many great memories!
But yes, if he can find music that he feels connected with and he can do a program that is close to his heart and he'll be able to please us with it, then I have no problem with it. I'm looking forward to a new proagram Evan will skate.
So, a hard decision on this one - I think I'll be fine whatever he choses if it's going to make him happy and successfull. :P
:)

I also voted "other". When I first heard Evan's changing the FP this season, I was like "Whee!!! Finally!". But then, after seeing the 2 stunning FP performances at SA and CoC, I'm not so sure... Evan seems to feel really comfortable about "Carmen" and gets high scores for Components, even Transitions. A new FP would probably be a new challenge, perhaps he wouldn't skate it as consistantly as "Carmen"... I really don't know, it's a hard choice :hide:

I've been thinking about this some more.

On the plus side of keeping it: it's very comfortable for him now.

On the minus side of keeping it: it's very comfortable for him now.

He seems to thrive on challenge and if this gets too comfy, it might lose it's edge.

So if he finds music that reaches his soul the way Carmen does, I'm definitely up for a change - for him to give it the Lysacek Edge!! But only IF he finds just the right music.

Otherwise I could watch him skate Carmen forever!!

We'll know in a while as he's probably on his way to Toronto now, if he's not already there.

Will be sad not to see him on ice for a whole month - at Marshalls. At least we have the ESPN tape delay of CoC to help hold us over.

KEEP CARMEN! Okay, for some reason I just have this major thing for Carmen - probably because it was the first time I ever saw Evan skate, and it's just a really special program to me. So I'd love for him to keep it. But hey, I'm sure a new program would be fabulous too - but it worries me that he might switch at this time of season...=/.

Nicole - November 13, 2006 06:58 PM (GMT)
I voted for keeping Carmen. I think that if he decided to keep it for one more season he should stick to this decision. For me it seems quite challenging to change LP in the middle of the season and to be on the safe side it's better to keep the old LP and starting from the next season to perform a new program..

merrybari - November 13, 2006 07:23 PM (GMT)
The risk factor in changing might just be the thing that turns the tide for him and have him decide to keep it.

He REALLY really is targetting for the US Nationals Gold this year - he came right out and said so at the SP CoC press conference. Carmen seems like the ticket to success in achieving that goal.

If this is the best route to get there, I'm all in favor of keeping it.

We've been treated to so many new programs this year - new SP, and two new EX - keeping Carmen would be another treat.

and two new EX

Wow, I've obviously missed something...what was the other one?

ETA: Nevermind...I just watched it. Beautiful :). But I do wish he wouldn't do that to his hair - but since it's his hair then he gets to do whatever he wants with it :P.

I also voted for keeping Carmen for two main reasons: beautiful program that just keeps getting better and changing programs at the middle of the seson seems too risky.

But I guess if he changes it, it will be great too so anyway I'll be happy :)

I voted other, because I really don't know.... it would be great to see a new LP after all, but I love Carmen so much and it gave a lot to him! so... have no idea... we'll see it soon....

I have been thinking about that, again, and came to a conclusion that since Evan debuted "Carmen" a few events into the season last year, and even though the program was done on a short notice, it didn't stop him from skating it clean at the first showing.

So I'm thinking that I actually want Evan to get a new program since I'm sure he'd not have any problems with it anyway.

I'm just  that he finds the right music.

Oh, and I hope someone passes the "Pirates of the Caribbean: Ded Man's Chest" soundtrack CD to him, and especially the tracks 1 - 3, and 9. The music is powerful, commanding, and yet emotional. I'm sure Evan would do a fabulous job with it.

If Evan finds music he's passionate about (and I, too, hope that music is Pirates of the Caribbean :B ), then I think the results will be amazing.

He's proven that he can handle new long programs on short notice. However, a new long program mid-season might not be the best thing to help the weird short program problems he's picked up this year.

Megi,

Do you have the "Pirates" music you're talking about uploaded somewhere? I'd like to give a listen.

If any of them were on the ELFF CD project, my files of those are lost.

:thankyou: for any help on this.

Megi - November 15, 2006 07:07 PM (GMT)
No, the Project was finished before the POTC II soundtrack came out. I'm sure it must available somewhere online, maybe someone elase can help. Personally, I have it on CD only.

merrybari - November 15, 2006 07:14 PM (GMT)
:thankyou: I remembered there was something from Pirates on the project - didn't remember it was before Deadman came out. duh!!!

I'll scoot over to music requests and see if anyone can upload.

Megi - November 15, 2006 07:23 PM (GMT)
Posted some of the POTC II tracks in this thread in the Multimedia section.

And the POTC track that was included in the project was from the first movie.

Thanks. I'm listening as I type. (Track 1)

Maybe if he hears the first one from the CD he'll be led to others. *shrug*

I voted that he should retire "Carmen" and not just Evan everyone. They should like retire that music from skating :lol2: .lol

ems_loves_sasha - November 23, 2006 06:14 PM (GMT)
Evan's Carmen program is probably one of my favorite programs he has ever had, and he has done amazing with it... I would say he should retire it if it was a little earlier in the season but he's already competed in Campbells, Skate America, and Cup of China now, therefore if he changes his program to a new one, it will be very risky for Nationals and Worlds because he wouldn't have had any practice with it in competition. He's only had it for one season, so I don't mind him keeping it for this one too even though the music is VERY common, haha.
