Title: USFSA Envelopes

Consideration will be given to place a 2010 Olympic medalist into Team A or Team B at the discretion of the ICMS. These athletes must have retained their eligible status and must be committed to competing in the current and/or following competitive season.

If the above is true why do you think Evan was not placed in Team A? Does that just mean no funding or does it have larger implications?

My guess is that he opted out like he did last season, leaving the funding to those with limited means at their disposal.

I don't think there are any larger implications such as he won't be competing. He's said there are no impediments with USFS and he'll begin serious training as soon as he can after Seoul.

That said, I'm certainly am not going to jump to worst case scenario conclusions just yet.

I agree, Mary. I think Evan has either opted out of the funding or he's not funded because he hasn't competed in a couple of years.

I don't see this as any type of impediment to Evan's return to competition. He says he wants to compete and that issues have now been resolved, so I expect him to receive an assignment and return to the competition ice. :)

Not being named to a team envelope will not affect Evan's ability to compete in the 2012-13 season. There can be several reasons why Evan was not named to the Team A or B envelope: (1) he did not request funding, (2) he did not commit to compete in the 2012-13 season, or (3) he made the commitment to compete, requested funding, but USFSA opted not to provide him funding (the criteria only requires the USFSA to 'give consideration' to a 2010 Olympic medalist). Furthermore, last season, Evan and the USFSA had a disagreement over the terms of the Athlete Agreement. In order to receive Team Envelope funding, the athlete has to sign the Athlete Agreement. Only time will tell if the issues between Evan and the USFSA have been resolved.

At least he can still compete!

He can compete at Nationals without signing the Athlete Agreement; however, he cannot compete internationally without signing the Athlete Agreement.

So Evan's contract has yet to be worked out for the coming season? I haven't been around for awhile because of computer trouble and illness. It is still only May. I hope we hear something positive in June or July.

So far as I know, nothing has been directly said by either USFS or Evan's team about whether or not the agreement has been signed.

However Evan did say in an interview while he was away as sports envoy, that the issues between them "had been resolved" and he is training to compete.

It's also encouraging that his name is in the selection pool, and he has mentioned that Frank is looking into Evan competing at Nebelhorn to add world ranking points and possibly other Senior B comps as part of the road back to competition mode on the way toward Socchi.

Guess we'll know Monday if they really do make GP assignments known then.

CarleyB - May 19, 2012 01:47 PM (GMT)
Thanks, Mary. That is encouraging news. I will certainly be on the lookout come Monday for the announcement of the assignments.

Yes, thanks for the good summary, Mary! It's all encouraging news!

I won't be able to take a sigh of relief until the assignments are known and Evan is assigned to an event. :skating:
