Okay, I was on tumblr today and someone asked me (we were having a Disney discussion) if I heard about River Country. And I said, no tell me, what is it? Apparently Disneyworld's first waterpark was River Country and it closed in 2001 (officially). So I've been hanging around google and what not ever since googling it. So fascinating! I can't believe the before and afters.
Obviously you cannot get into the theme park now, but some people have sneaked in and snooped around.
Has anyone else ever looked this up?

Interesting. I'm a Disney buff and the name does sound familiar to me but I've never been here. I've only been to Typhoon Lagoon which I'd say at this point has been open about 20 years and its map looks very similar to this actually.
I was at River Country the summer of 1986. It was wonderful. My kids, who are now in their 30's still talk about. Do they have some other kind of water park their now? I think it is a shame just to leave the loand sit there and get all swampy and stagnate. Wonder why they don't do something to the site?

Could be where Blizzard Beach is now. That is the newer of the 2 Disney waterparks, Typhoon Lagoon being the other.
River Country is still standing, it's near Mickey's Backyard Barbecue. It's also located in the Fort Wilderness Lodge I think.
