Description: discuss here

merrybari - April 16, 2008 04:10 AM (GMT)
Thought it about time we had a thread for this one.

Has anyone seen or heard anything re: time schedule and/or other info. I want to try to catch it live and don't even know where to start looking for a stream site or when the competition begins.

If anyone knows something, PLEASE fill us in.

:thankyou:

casaverde - April 16, 2008 09:49 AM (GMT)
This is the link of results of the event. Of course, nothing is there now. I don't know whether JSF will furnish the live results. It may be shown after the event.
http://www.skatingjapan.jp/InterNational/2...08/jo/index.htm

The competition will start at 13:00 on Apr.20. (Japan time)
TV broadcasting will not be live. It will be aired at 20:00 on the same day by TV Tokyo.

The gala (Carnival on Ice) will start at 18:00 on the same day. I don't know when it will be broadcasted.

merrybari - April 16, 2008 12:35 PM (GMT)
Thanks Casa!!! That takes care of the "when." Now just have to find the "where" for a live stream - if any. Am keeping my fingers crossed!

Apparently, SetupKHTV3.06.exe is the latest version and the one we should download.

Now I'm trying to decide whether to stay unspoiled for the broadcast on not.

CarleyB - April 16, 2008 09:30 PM (GMT)
This is great news. Now we can see Evan skate Tosca for the last time.

:cheer: :cheer: GO EVAN!!! :cheer: :cheer:

casaverde - April 17, 2008 10:20 AM (GMT)
I want to warn you about TV broadcasting.
The TV broadcasting will not be live, so it will be edited. There will be some possibility that it won't include all skaters' performances.
I think last year I watched all skaters, but in 2006, Sandhu was cut. I hope they will show all skaters.
Another TV broadcasting is scheduled at 11:00 on Apr.29 by BS Japan. I don't know it will be differently edited or re-broadcasting of Apr.20 program.

Sunny asked about ticket price of these events in other thread. The prices are as follows.
Competition
SS 19,000yen, S 15,000yen, A 10,000yen, B 8,000yen, C 6,000yen, D 4,000yen
Gala
SS 20,000yen, S 17,000yen, A 14,000yen, B 10,000yen, C 8,000yen, D 6,000yen
(I think I US dollar is around 100yen recently.)

Because I am not so rich, I bought S sheets of both events. (My gala ticket is discounted pair ticket.) They will not be so close to the rink. But I think cheaper sheets are very far from the rink.
Ticket sales of the Gala seem to be not very good. It's because in addition to the ticket prices, it will be held on Sunday evening, so many people from far place can't stay there till late time for their work or school on Monday. They recently began to sell some discount tickets.

By the way, I saw Takahashi's interview about this event several days ago. He said that because he had some rest after the Worlds, he had not decided yet whether he put two quads into his program, but he would put at least one quad in it. And he will skate hip-hop Swan Lake at the Gala.
I read on other sites that Adrian Schultheiss had been invited as an alternate of Plushenko. In case of that Evgeni can't skate his FS for his physical condition or some other reason, Adrian will compete as a member of team Europe. It is still not official.

merrybari - April 17, 2008 10:43 AM (GMT)
Thanks for the update, casa! They certainly aren't making this easy for fans "out of country" to see this one. We've become really spoiled with all the live broadcasts - delayed/edited versions are disappointing. I do hope they will at least show all the performances.

Interesting about the quads and Takahashi. I suspect it'll depend on who else does what else and when he skates. So much to consider.

We know from the blogger when Evan was in Portland for SOI that Evan has been training the quad again and very successfully. I suspect he'll be putting it in too. Should be something to see. Just hope we can find a way to see it over here.

Am so happy for you that you'll be right there to watch it all.  for us too!!

CarleyB - April 17, 2008 05:52 PM (GMT)
:thankyou: also for the update Casa. You are really good at giving us the latest news. What would we do without you?

WOW!! Evan is training the quad and with success! That is really great news. I was wondering if he was feeling up to par with it after seeing that lump on his arm. If he is training it, I am sure he will be putting it in as it has been in all season. He is very committed to that program and the quad/triple.

This should be an exciting competition. Daisuke, Stephane, and Evan all have quads and are very good skaters. I think they make competitions very exciting. I like to see the quads and the difficulty instead of the same things we have always been seeing. Todd Eldredge is very strong, although I don't remember much about the other men. I do remember seeing Honda at 2003 Worlds.

Now we just have to hope and pray we can see it.

I hope you have a great time, Casa, and report much back to us. :cheer: :cheer:

Thanks Megi! Found this info on GS too. I think it's the same thing, but just in case, here's info from there, which is from visaliakid.

Seems many people are looking for a way to see this one.

Daylight Saving Time is in effect on this date/time in America/New_York

So if I translate right, that puts Tokyo 13 hours ahead (daylight savings time) and we'd watch at 7 in the morning? Sheese the things we have to go through to see our fella skate!! It's worth it!!!

Wonder if he's there yet? Go Evan!!

Megi - April 17, 2008 10:14 PM (GMT)
Normally 7 am is a middle of the night for me on Sunday but I'm sooo here this time! I have decided to stay unspoiled for the broadcast, should be fun!

It's Friday already in Japan so I'm guessing Evan's either already there or on his way! :)

Me too!!!

BTW: I'm a bit dense today. Please explain what you mean by "staying unspoiled."

I expect you're right about his being there already. Jet lag he doesn't need added to everything else.

Megi - April 17, 2008 10:50 PM (GMT)
Staying unspoiled = not checking the results/reports before the broadcast.

merrybari - April 17, 2008 10:55 PM (GMT)
duh! That's what I thought - having a brain-fade day! :thankyou: Not sure what I'll do - I get so nervous waiting but I like to watch live so will see if I can stand the wait and stay unspoiled myself.

Just tried watching the site and it seems there have been a few channels added. I was able to see ABC but do you know which one to click for TV Tokyo?

Frankly, I have no idea. :hide: Hope one of our Japanese members will be able to help.

casaverde - April 18, 2008 12:37 PM (GMT)
I made an explanation material
The channel name may be different on Sunday. But I will not be able to help you on that day. I'm sorry but if you can't find it, you have to try each channel. For reference, scheduled program of TV Tokyo before JO is a program of travel to an island etc. If you see birds or baseball at that time zone, they are different channels. Other channels will broadcast variety shows or something at the time zone. It may be difficult to distinguish. There may be some other channels which show the same programs with TV Tokyo. They are local channels of TV Tokyo network. They may be available, but I'm not sure about it.
The commentator of JO TV program will be Yuka Sato.

merrybari - April 18, 2008 01:37 PM (GMT)
Thanks so much Casa.

The tips about what to watch just before it starts are a great idea. If all else fails, we'll know ahead of time if we're in the right place.

Have printed out the explanation page link you made. My problem is that when I pull the program up all I get is little square boxes instead of the characters you circled so I don't know which is which. Perhaps if you get time you could link in and count down from the top and tell us the number of TV Tokyo.

sorry to be such a bother. You're a dear to help. :thankyou:

merrybari - April 18, 2008 01:43 PM (GMT)
Did find out at FSVids when the gala will broadcast:

Carnival on Ice(Japanese Time GMT+9)

23:00:00 Monday May 5, 2008 in America/New_York

May 10 (Sat) 20:30-23:00 - BS Japan converts to
07:30:00 Saturday May 10, 2008 in America/New_York

I'm sorry.
The number of broadcasted channels changes by the time. Therefore I cannot specify the number from the top.
(It is the third from the bottom at present (23:00 on Apr. 18 in Japan time.))
You have to select the channel by remembering the shape of Japanese characters of the material which I made.
I think that you had better install Japanese font in your PC if Japanese is not displayed on your screen.
Otherwise, it's hard, sorry, but try all channels till you find it.

This sounds like an option. Only thing is, how do I do that? When I chose "other language" besides English for installation, I still didn't get the Japanese characters, just the squares. Is there a place on the front page where I can get teh Japanese fonts? Or sowmewhere else where I could upload?

As you say, I can always browse from channel to channel looking for the clues you gave. I'm grateful that you took time to share those.

Mary, I think it's a matter of OS of PC, not KeyholeTV software.
I can't explain well about it, but these sites may help you.

But on Sunday, maybe someone on this forum who can see Japanese characters will help you.

merrybari - April 19, 2008 12:48 AM (GMT)
Thanks for all your help casa. One way or the other with all you've given me, I'll get it OK. :thankyou: dear.

Yuki - April 19, 2008 03:58 AM (GMT)
Mary, I read Japanese so I can help you if I can sit in front of the computer that time.

The channel (the third from the bottom) is now (EST 11:50PM, Friday) showing Shizuka Arakawa and then Mao Asada as a fluff for Japan Open.

Yuki

merrybari - April 19, 2008 10:50 AM (GMT)
Oh Yuki - :thankyou: Third from the bottom? That's a great help to know. See you here a bit before 7 am - my time in Michigan - on Sunday. You're a life saver!!

gosia.cookie - April 19, 2008 05:50 PM (GMT)
Thanks for all the help with online streaming, Casa and Yuki! :thankyou: Unfortunately I won't be able to watch it as my internet's too slow, I'm counting on FSVids. The competition might be very interesting with skaters like Evan, Daisuke and Stephane plus it's the last competition of the season and probably the last time we'll see their FPs, which feels a little bit strange and sad especially about Evan's "Tosca" - I'm really gonna miss it so much!

You and me both!!

I'm so sorry about your not being able to see it - IceNet apparently wasn't able to deal with IMG so probalby no on-demand there either. But I'm very sure FSVids will come through so you'll have that to look forward to.

Yuki - April 20, 2008 06:17 AM (GMT)
I will not spoil you, but the skating order is:

Todd, Takeshi, Adrian, Evan, Daisuke, Stephane.
Men skated first.

Looks like Tokyo TV channel is still 3rd from the bottom.

I am not sure if I can wake up at 7AM (EST);
it has been a long day here.

Later!

Yuki :)

Tessa - April 20, 2008 09:16 AM (GMT)
I watched one of the pratice clips.. Did you see Stephane's new hair style? OMG, I still can't believe it ...oh my my

Brigichan - April 20, 2008 09:22 AM (GMT)
I've read on message boards Evan skated nice, but there were no specific details. No costume change either. He cheered loudly for Kimmie Miessner, because Stephane Lambiel was jumping all around in the Kiss n Cry when he saw Sarah Meier had a gorgeous program. I love these boys, seriously.

Thanks Yuki - for the info and no spoilers. :thankyou:

Im tuned in to the third from bottom so hope it's still TV Tokyo. ! My tummy is full of butterflies. :help:

I'm getting a program about food - not sure if it's on an island or not. At least Evan's not skating first so I have time to browse a bit if I'm not on the right one.

merrybari - April 20, 2008 11:01 AM (GMT)
Third from the bottom it is. I'm watching right now.

CarleyB - April 20, 2008 11:40 AM (GMT)
Good grief. My feed must have been bad or somthing. It looked like Evan was moving in slow motion until the very end. Mary, what did you see? I didn't even see any triple jumps.

Nw I see that they all look that way. Daisuke really mesed up. Stephane is skating well. No falls. Now I can understand that Evan skated well also. I missed Todd. North America is in first.

I really liked Shizuka's exhibition program. She is amazingly flexible, more so than at the Olympics.

Tessa - April 20, 2008 11:48 AM (GMT)
I guess that was a bit too much for my laptop...very bad connection.. I couldn't see very much..only thing that was clearly for me were the scores... so Stephane coming up  with this new hair...

Megi - April 20, 2008 11:59 AM (GMT)
My feed was very choppy, too so it's really hard to say anything about the performance, but from top my head, Evan landed 3z-3t out of a spread eagle, 3a-2t, 3s, 3r (not sure about this one), 3f-2t-2r, 3z, 2a. The program starts with softer music now. I can't wait to see a good quality vid of it.

TES was 70.something but I didn't get the PCS and the total score.

Yuki - April 20, 2008 12:07 PM (GMT)
Yes, the music cut has changed, right?
It seems to have more slower (softer ) section.

What I heard:
3Lz3T, 3A2T, 3Lo, 3S, 3F, 3F2T2Lo, 3Lz, 2A

Score
TES 71.43
PCS 80.52
Total 151.95

CarleyB - April 20, 2008 12:12 PM (GMT)
Evan's total score was 151 something, the highest score achieved. Stephane's was 146, Daisuke was 127, I think. The video is getting choppier. Evan's jumps looked liked singles. After thinking about it, he probably was rotating so fast, that they were picked up as singles.

I am not sure I liked the new, softer beginning. It was nice, but I am so used to the othe version, and it was the first one I saw at SA, which made a huge emotional imact. I would like to see a good video of it and watch it a few more times. Otherwise, he looked great.

Mirai is skating now. This KeyholeTV worked better while trying it out last night, but at least I can see something and the outcome.

Wow!! That is a really high PCS. I think that is the highest Evan has ever scored. Good for him. He should be happy with that, since he has been working on increasing his PCS all season.

merrybari - April 20, 2008 12:18 PM (GMT)
Had a very choppy feed myself - couldn't tell anything about the jumps. I too am waiting for a better vid. Nothing at FSVids as yet.

Men's scores:
Evan: 151.95 :1st:
Stephane: 146.49
Adrian: 132.90
Daisuke: 127.27
Honda: 114.70
Todd: 111.94

Good to see him smile - really love the new beginning. Hard to say much more until we get a good vid, but from the scores it's a winner! HE looked pleased and well he should. He got the season ending he wanted - on a high note. :cheer:

Way to go, Evan. :cloud9:
