Um, summary? Angsty. Really angsty. 'Tis all I can say right now. [face_devil].gif

I wrote this for a challenge at the JC, and I'm quite fond of it, so here it is.

The challenge was to write between 500 and 4000 words without any real dialogue. So...

Decision

Tycho Celchu felt his knees give out under him, and grabbed onto the edge of the table that held the comm. station for support. The words that he had just heard seemed to bounce around his head, with him truly understanding what they meant.

Alderaan … destroyed … Rebellion …

No. It wasn’t possible. Who would destroy Alderaan—a planet of pacifists?

Gone … Mother … Father … Skoloc … dead…

The Rebellion? Tycho thought not. What reason did they have to destroy Alderaan, where they drew their support? Rumor had it that Princess Leia and Bail Organa were both involved in the Rebellion. Why would they want their homeworld destroyed?

And with it, their entire lives.

Entire lives…

The words were somehow too big for him to understand. It was incomprehensible to him that he’d never see Mia or—or—Nyiestra again.

Nyiestra…

Tycho wanted to scream, he wanted to tell that galaxy that Nyiestra couldn’t be dead, that she wasn’t dead. He wanted to so desperately, but the words stuck in his throat. He had seen the connection with Alderaan give out.

But it had done that many times before. Countless times before. And he took it for one of those times when the connection was just faulty.

Why did he do that? What sort of person was he, thinking about how he needed to tease his father moments after his father’s death?

Death…

Death was final, death was forever. There was no coming back from death.

Tycho felt a hand on his shoulder, guiding him towards a seat. He turned towards the person, to see his roommate. Tycho opened his mouth to thank him for being there, but—again—the words stuck in his throat.

Somehow, for some reason, he just kept hoping that it was some awful prank, that someone would walk up behind him and tell him that.

But no one did.

No one did.

Real … gone … forever …

How could they have left him like that? Alone in the galaxy. The people that he thought were his friends had left only days before—before—before his whole family was murdered.

His family—and Nyiestra.

Nyiestra …

What had she done to deserve a death like this? She was a pacifist, maybe even more so than many Alderaanians. And she’d been murdered by the biggest war machine in the history of the galaxy. What sense was there in that?

There wasn’t any.

Empire or Rebellion, good or bad, there was no point in destroying a helpless planet: disarmed, peaceful.

Rebellion …

The Rebellion was small. How could they afford something of the magnitude that it would take to destroy a planet? Why was the Imperial Senate disbanded before not after the crisis? Why would the Rebellion was Alderaan destroyed?

There was only one answer.

It hadn’t been the Rebellion that destroyed Alderaan.

It had been the Empire.

Empire …

The Empire that he, Tycho Celchu, was serving right now.

The Empire had the money and resources to build whatever it was that destroyed Alderaan. The Emperor knew that it was going to happen, so he disbanded the Senate. And the Empire had every reason to want Alderaan gone. Alderaanians were the people who opposed the Emperor the most. Bail and Leia Organa were both leaders of the Rebellion, and both from Alderaan.

But Tycho knew that he couldn’t serve the people who killed Nyiestra.

Anyone who could kill a planet of pacifists cruel, and murderous. And not someone that he needed to serve. Ever.

And so, he didn’t.

What do y'all think? Good? Horrible? Somewhere in the middle?

[face_applause].gif This is the first fic I've seen about Tycho's POV after Alderaan. Are you going to continue it or is it a one shot?

Myra... that was a LOT like how I wrote Tycho's reaction to Alderaan's destruction in New Path.... it's always nice to see that someone else pictures it the same way you do.

That said, you developed it much more than I did... and wrote it better to.

I love seeing the sort of fractured thoughts of someone who's just experienced a tragedy, and you wrote that very well.

Bravo.
