Asyr Sei'lar, Biography and Discussion

Name: Asyr Sei'lar
Species: Bothan
Planet of Origin: Coruscant (Imperial Center)


This female Bothan was living in the Invisible Sector of the Coruscant underworld when Rogue Squadron infiltrated the planet prior to the New Republic's assault on it. She was a member of the Alien Combine, noticeable by her black pelt, which is punctuated by white splotches on her chest, head, and hands. She tried to come onto Gavin Darklighter, who rejected her. She labeled him a bigot, and brought him to the Combine for punishment. Asyr soon discovered that Gavin was simply scared, and was as understanding of alien species as any non-human. She was a graduate of the Bothan Military Academy, graduating a year behind Peshk Vri'syk. This training earned her the respect of the Rogues and the New Republic, and she was given a place in the squadron following the liberation of Coruscant. She and Gavin became romantically involved, but were discreet about it. She was watched by Borsk Fey'lya, who had hoped that Asyr would remain loyal to the Bothan political ideals and could provide potentially damaging information about the Rogues. She refused his demands, and remained loyal to the Squadron. When Asyr and Gavin made their relationship public and decided to adopt children, Fey'lya stepped in to block their efforts. He felt that Asyr wasn't behaving in a Bothan-enough fashion, and told her in no uncertain terms that any further dalliance with Gavin would have serious repercussions. She once again refused to accept Fey'lya's demands, but also realized that she and Gavin would be unable to have the life they wanted. She went on a rampage, flying beyond herself during the assaults on Liinade III and Corvis Minor Five, until her ship collided with an enemy fighter over Corvis Minor Five. Her loss came as a shock to Gavin and the Rogues, who mourned her deeply. However, Asyr herself managed to survive, having been rescued by the Errant Venture. She swore Booster Terrik, Mirax Terrik, and Iella Wessiri to secrecy, leaving the New Republic in the hope of bringing about changes to Bothan society by working undercover.

Poor Asyr. She is the only Bothan that I don't want to shoot. I love that she stands up for Gavin, and Rogue Squadron. Die, Borsky, DIE!!!

No, but Asyr is the BEST Bothan ever.

Not so much. He does good things in TUF. I wish that I had killed Borsky, though.

Of, course, now Asyr is out of work. She was helping people that Borsk hurt.

Asyr Rocks, and I'm sorry to say this but I still wanna shoot a certain furball bothan...

I wanted to shoot Borsky. At least he dies, but not for all the evil things he did.

I would LOVE to see a fic about Asyr after her "death." That's gotta be one of the coolest untold stories floating out there in the GFFA.

. . . Actually, I have seen one fic mention her work after IR, and that was only vaguely alluded to. She was leading a largely student movement on Bothawui to change Bothan society; she somewhat anonymously helps Moranda (one of Kardde's operatives in the Thrawn Duology) escape trouble on Bothawui.

Of course, that fic was never finished. Oh yeah, and it showed Borsk as a good guy. Great new perspective on a monster.

I think she had one of the best introductions of any character in the X-wing books, simply because it was so crazy - what better way to join the Rogues than to accuse one of them of anti-alien bigotry, put them on trial, and have the trial busted up by the Imps?

Moranda? As in Moranda Savich?

Question for y'all: What would compel Asyr to go back to Gavin?

Savich? She was one of THREE characters that my mom liked when she read the Hand of Thrawn books.

I meant, if she didn't known about Gavin's marriage... what would compel her to find him?

I'd have thought Borsk Fey'lya's death if she hadn't become involved with someone else which is also a possibility. lthough, guilt from the deception and resulting pain mightfinally force her out of hiding...
