This discussion will be the basis for fic standards for Myri's Lounge. We need your input on this subject if you don't want to see half your fics end up in the R-rating category.

I'd really appreciate it if y'all could fill this survey out, please. I'd like to be more specific on what goes here and what doesn't and I'd like to have your input. [face_happy].gif

1. What, in your mind, is allowed as far as violence in a PG-13 fic?

2. What, in your mind, is allowed as far as sex in a PG-13 fic?

3. What, in your mind, is alllowed as far as torture in a PG-13 fic?

4. If Jes and I decide that a fic is heading in the R direction, on a scale of one to ten, how upset would you be over moving it to the other forum?

Thanks in advance, guys! [face_happy].gif

Jes Edit: We can DEFINITELY move whole threads
Jes Edit: changing the title to draw attention and adding note at the top.

Ok, y'all, if I don't get responses on this, Jes and I have decided that the only thing allowed will be:

1. Han and Mara

or

2. Leia and Chewie

making out. [face_mischief].gif

I'm still considering Luke and Tahiri... [face_thinking].gif

because Myri's being mean and making me do this.... [face_tongue].gif

1. What, in your mind, is allowed as far as violence in a PG-13 fic?: for violence, I'd say SbS level

2. What, in your mind, is allowed as far as sex in a PG-13 fic?: Erm... well let's go with nudity should be allowed *cough*Titanic*cough* and maybe saying that they're having sex... but explicit sex scenes should go R I think.

3. What, in your mind, is alllowed as far as torture in a PG-13 fic?: Erm, this is hard, I think I'll go with SbS for now... I can think of a better example later

4. If Jes and I decide that a fic is heading in the R direction, on a scale of one to ten, how upset would you be over moving it to the other forum?: 1

Happy Now, Myri? [face_tongue].gif

Very. Now everyone else needs to get their butts in here and do it, too. [face_tongue].gif

Oh, and could you be more specific? I haven't read SbS in a looooong time... [face_tongue].gif

Um... I'm confused... about what you're talking about. But here's my answers to your questions (not your random pairings!)

Well, what exactly do they edit out when they put a movie on television? They edit out a lot of the sex and curse words.

As far as what to allow or not to allow, I’m not so sure.

I would say that explicit descriptions of anything are NOT PG-13. (i.e. sex, violence, or torture.) I would still say allusions work best. Allude to the sex that’s about to happen, and if you want to describe it, it’s probably R. They usually don’t show sex in PG-13 movies except for brief flashes of what’s going on. The torture and violence probably go hand in hand. If it’s too descriptive or there’s too much of it, then move it to R. I’ve had scenes on the JC boards that have made me physically ill, so those are probably over the PG mark.

I would check with an author before moving a thread. If the author doesn’t want it to be moved into the R forum, then give him/her the option of changing the course of the story to make sure that it doesn’t cross that line.

Thanks, Master, that's kinda what I was thinking... [face_happy].gif

Also, just to clarify:

You will be notified if either Jes or I thinks that your story is over the line. We will ask you if you are willing to tone it down or if you want it moved.

Also, guys, it's important that you respond to this, because we're going to use this when we write up the guidelines for what we will allow in this forum and what we will not. If you don't post here, I don't want to hear you complaining when the guidelines are posted.

Thanks for your time! [face_happy].gif

What Jenn said about Titanic is, I think, a good standard to go by regarding sex.

For torture, I would say, nothing really graphic. Beatings, descriptions of pain, but nothing really detailed. (I suck at this, I know [face_tongue].gif )

Well, I'm going to go with what was going on before Bush took office. I'm not going to start a political debate here, but it's a fact that since 2001 MORE has been edited out of tv shows. I think, honestly, if we're going to compare this to tv, we should use the pre-Bush standards, things that have been in place since the 80s.

That said, I used to watch Dawson's Creek, and that's rated around PG-13, and they've never edited out words that I've seen. Most of the stuff that gets edited is considered to be PG.

PG13 should be allowed descriptive techniques without going OTT. Example: Violence and Gore=Fine, but don't say: "The intestines were spattered acroos the walls and celing, blood dripping down to the floor."

Thats not anywhere near it. That'd be pushing the 15/18 barrier over here in Liberal Britain, so it'd probably be an R in the States.

Sex: Yes, just no pleasurable expressions, if you know what I'm getting at. Nudity: Yes, Emotions: Yes, Hardcore Sex:No.

Language: Its Star Wars, they're not from Earth, they don't use earth curses. There's nothing more annoying than reading a FanFic with Earthly Swear Words in it. Use Kriff and Shavit.

Titanic seema to be a good guideline for PG-13. It's almost R, but not quite. They show nudity, and you know that they have sex, but it's not shown.* SbS is fine for violence. That example was nasty!*

SbS' violence quotient is much higher than the sex quotient in Titanic.

Titanic IS a good guideline for PG-13. That is WHAT PG-13 is.

I only skim the violent parts. I said SbS because I compare all violence to Traitor, which I didn't finish. Violence just doesn't bother me as much.

Hey, I've seen movies with more sex than Titanic that are rated PG-13. Has anyone here seen The Notebook? If you have, can I be told if a fic like that would be PG-13 of R.
