Lonely No More, Response to Spee's songfic challenge

Well, I'm going to bite the bullet and post this un-betaed. I won't say that it's fabulous, but I hope you enjoy your reading.

Star Wars doesn't belong to me. Neither does the song Lonely No More - which belongs to Rob Thomas. I'm not making any money for this.

There was a rap at the door. Wes Janson stood up and looked at the small holo of whoever was out there.

It was Anca Bustiyya. Her again. Would she ever leave him alone? Every day, there she was at his door…Could she even leave him alone?

Obviously not, as she continued to knock. “I’m coming,” called Wes grudgingly.

“Hello, baby,” she called in response.

Wes scowled. Why is it that every woman I try to date wants to sleep with me? There’s a reason that I have a reputation as a playboy, but the only real part is that I like to flirt a bit. I don’t have commitment issues or anything. Why does everyone think that I do?

He dragged his feet towards the door, and pressed the release button from as far away as possible.

“Wessie! I’m so glad to see you!” she gushed loudly the moment the door opened. He rolled his eyes as she flung her arms around her neck, and planted a ‘wet one’ on his cheek.

Wes resisted the temptation to wipe it off, knowing it would hurt Anca’s feelings. He forced a smile and pulled away maybe a little too hard. Anca frowned. “Is there a problem, Wessie?”

“No, nothing at all,” he hurried to say, before the truth slipped out. I want someone who loves me, not someone who just wants ‘sexual favors.’

“Anca, can you come sit down, please? I need to talk to you,” Wes said, walking towards the sofa, and flopping down in the middle.

“Wes?” Anca looked almost sick. “Are you about to break up with me?”

Oh, shavit, thought Wes. I am. But does she really care?

“I guess I am. You’re a wonderful person—really—but I think that we were looking for different things in this relationship.”

Wes considered what he’s said. “I’m sorry. That sounded really clichéd.”

Now it’s hard for me with my heart still on the mend
Open up to me, like you do your girlfriends

“I guess that I really wanted a more long term relationship. Most people think that I don’t, but I really do.”

Anca wiped the shock off her face quickly enough that Wes had to give her credit for her fast reactions. But it didn’t change the fact that it had been there; that she though he had commitment issues.

Anca had left several hours ago. She hadn’t left happily, but she’d left. Finally. Wes had collapsed on the sofa the minute she’d closed the door.

There was a soft rap at the door. Wes didn’t even move from his sprawl.

Whoever was at the door knocked again. Wes still didn’t answer. I can’t deal with any more of it tonight. Honestly, can’t these damned ‘admirers’ leave me alone for a little bit?

It’s hard to never have anyone willing to commit to you. I really want to be able to have a real relationship, not just one-night-stands. But because everyone thinks that I have commitment issues, any woman that acts like she’s interested in me just wants to sleep with me.

But what was strange was that he wasn’t angry with all of them, just with himself, really. They were only reacting to what they saw—he was a bit of a flirt. And Anca couldn’t be at fault for trying to get someone who was hitting on her to sleep with her.

The person at the door knocked again. For Sith’s sake! Even if someone is home, not answering the door means that I DON’T WANT TO TALK TO YOU!

There was yet another knock.

Wes decided that whoever it was was too persistent for his taste. Just too damn persistent.

What if I gave all my life to find some way to stand beside you

Wes rose slowly and dragged his feet towards the door, to open it.

Standing there, looking rather huffy, was Shalla.

“Hello, Wes.”

“Hello, Shalla. Long time, no see.”

“So, how’ve you been Shalla?” Wes asked carefully.

“Good, and you?” she replied calmly.

“Oh, I’ve been fine. Pretty good. What have you been up to?”

“Not much. Mundane intel stuff for Cracken and slightly less mundane intel stuff for Cracken. You get the picture. I’m sure that your life as a Rogue has been much more exciting.” Shalla smirked.

“Yeah, I guess it has been.

“You wanna go out to dinner to get caught up?”

“Wes, did you just ask me out?” Shalla raised an eyebrow at him.

“That depends on whether you agree to come or not.”

“Okay, it’s a date.”

Hmm . . . sometimes Wes makes me wonder if the guy who invented him was making up for all the other guys . . . it's not that most guys can't commit, it's just hard to find something to commit to. Especially in Wes Janson's case.

It can't be easy for anyone in the squadrons to try to hold a relationship. They're gone a lot of the time. And Cracken is always sending them undercover somewhere. No communication. They never know when their last mission is going to be. It would be really difficult to be the sig other of one of them. And it would be just as difficult being on the other end of the relationship, always having to be secretive and away from home. Then there's the added issue that their enemies might at some point go after their loved ones.
Not easy for the Rogues and the Wraiths at all.

Anyways, nice job Mirax. I love the idea of that Wes isn't really the playboy that everyone thinks him to be. And I really like him consciously thinking that he'd really like a deeper relationship.
And yet...its not like he exactly says NO to these women that want to sleep with him, either. A little restraint might help him to find one actually worth keeping.
