WARNING - Violence and brief, non-explict nudity

This is a response to Jes's Evil!fic challenge, so remember, anything here isn't my fault.

Crossing The Line

Author's Note: Kudos to Inyri for the title, and Jes for taking a look at this.
Rating: HIGH PG-13 for said violence and nudity

During Wedge’s Gamble:

Tycho stepped into the safehouse. Quickly, but oh so quietly, he swung the door shut. A soft click followed.

Tycho started across the room. Suddenly, he slid forward several meters. He glanced down and realized that he was standing on a woman’s jumpsuit. Scattered around the room were other pieces of clothing: a pair of pants, boxer shorts, and the jacket of an Imperial uniform.

His hand slipped to the blaster at his side. Imperials were here?

There was a sofa in the middle of the room, facing giant, 3-meter viewports.

As Tycho crept toward the front of the sofa, he could hardly rip his eyes away from the woman’s jumpsuit. It’s so kriffing FAMILIAR!

Lying on the sofa, wrapped in a blanket that did nothing to disguise her nudity, was Winter.

Winter.

His Winter.

Lying naked in a safehouse.

Tycho’s eyes slid to the other person on the sofa.

A knife of betrayal cut deep into his gut, and he struggled not to cry out.

Instead he leveled his blaster at the man. One shot rang through the silent room. His aim was true.

Blood began to gush out of Wedge Antilles’s head, spattering on the floor, and sofa, and Winter’s pure white hair.

Winter.

His Winter.

Her eyes wide, she was trying desperately to stop the flow from Wedge’s head. His blood quickly soaked the blanket, and dripped on to her bare legs.

Wedge’s eyes glazed over, and he was gone. Winter slowly turned to see the shooter. As her eyes filled with tears, the blaster clattered to the floor beside his.

In an instant, he processed what he had seen, what he had done.

And an instant later, he felt his fist make contact with Winter’s stomach.

She doubled over, gasping for air, with more tears streaming down her face. Tears of sadness, tears of betrayal.

Tycho turned and fled the room, fled the horrible consequences of his rash actions.

Once far, far away from the safehouse, his legs burning and his feet throbbing, he fell back against a wall and cried.

He cried for the cruel cards that life had dealt him, he cried for the distrust that the New Republic had for him.

But more than anything, he cried for a slaughtered friendship, and a broken love affair.

He cried.

Myra, I knew (sort of) what you had in mind, but this still caught me so by surprise it wasn't funny.

I really hope to find out just WHY this all happened - maybe from Winter's perspective, since she's the only one who can explain now....

Is it wrong to feel bad for Tycho?

Maybe it was all just a misunderstanding...

I kinda hope it wasn't a misunderstanding, Spee... because think how that would affect Tycho, having ... argh... poor everyone...

So, who actually crossed the line? Wedge, for bedding Winter? Winter, for cheating on Tycho? Or Tycho, for murdering his best friend?

Well, Wedge is dead, so misunderstanding or not, it's still bad.

Who says I'm telling? Let your imagination run free ...

That's quite a compliment, from you.

Guess that means that I need to get it all written out.

And I would say that Wedge and Tycho both crossed a number of lines. Remember, though, during WG (for a lot of the time), Winter thought that Tycho was dead.

But killing Wedge provides ultimate angst. And it was a very mean bunny ...

Jes, I just don't get that ... Seems like that would make it LESS sad ... Except that Wedge knew all along that Tycho wasn't dead ....

Yeah... but Winter didn't. Which makes it more tragic, in a way.

Ohhhh, now I'm following.

Like, it makes me even more mad at Wedge, because it's like he took advantage of Winter's belief that Tycho was dead to get Winter into bed with him.

But it's so much sadder because you know (at least, I convince myself) that Winter wouldn't have done it if she'd known the truth... or that maybe part of it on her part was grief for Tycho...

Yeah, Wedge is to blame here, I think. What a jerk, taking advantage of Winter when she thinks her husband is dead!

Well, he was only her boyfriend at the time.

But, yeah. The more I think about it, the more I'm less sorry Wedge got shot. I mean, I'm still sorry, but I truly feel for Winter and Tycho more for Wedge.

I wonder what's going to happen to Tycho... I mean, obviously, Winter knows who killed Wedge...

What happens to Tycho is one of the few things that I have a vague idea where it'll go. Hint is: Other than Wedge being dead, the first part is *almost* canon.

EDIT - Yeah, Wedge was a jerk. That's why Tycho shot him.
