"If I didn't have you..."
"Shh...you have me, so you don't have to worry about it." Joey promised him as she continued to stay silent, wondering what could be taking them so long to investigate the crime scene and let Pacey off the hook. Finally, Joey was pulled out of her thoughts when she heard his father start speaking to him.
"So do I get my money back? He stole 30 grand from me..."
Joey had decided to stay out of the conversation, guessing it was best she didn't interrupt, even if she felt like yelling at Sheriff Witter for talking to his own son like that. No wonder he had gone out of his way to get in trouble in high school, it seemed like that was all his father expected from him. She really, honestly, didn't understand why he couldn't just admit that he was proud of his son; at least once.
When she heard him talk about losing money, she finally stood up and glanced from his father back to Pacey after the Sheriff had walked away. "He stole thirty thousand dollars from you and you didn't bother to tell me?" she asked him as she let out a soft sigh and ran her fingers through her chocolate brown hair. She knew the two hadn't really been on great talking terms lately, but $30,000 dollars?! How could he have kept that from her?
"Maybe you should stay with Bessie tonight"
Joey simply shook her head, "No, I want to stay with you." she said honestly. If she went to her sister's, there was a definate chance that she'd stay awake the whole night worrying about Pacey, and she just wanted to be with him. Joey always felt safe when she was with Pacey, probably the safest she had ever felt in her life, and even though, after everything that had happened that night, when he had held her hand earlier, it made her feel like everything would be okay. That they would be okay.
