Title: Burning Out

Big Kahuna - June 28, 2012 04:26 AM (GMT)
I'm in a bad mood tonight. I haven't written anything for myself in over a month. No short stories, nothing added to my novel. Between all the crap going on in my life, I just have not been inspired. And right now, the Core just feels like one more obligation/source of frustration in my life.

With the exception of that one summer, I have been running this site nonstop for seven years now. And I'm burning out. I'm tired of trying to keep this site up to date, and trying to keep it active and not-pathetic. This evening Omega P was pitching ideas to get this site active again and everything he came up with were things I've tried before over the years, and they were all failures. It was depressing.

I really don't know what to do. I can't kill this site, it would be unfair to you guys. But right now, there's not a lot of incentive to keep going when so few of you are posting. No one seems to care any more, save for the newbies and maybe one or two old-timers.

I know you all have lives of your own, and other interests. But right now, I need more from you all. I need help, I need ideas to keep this site fresh and interesting and exciting. Otherwise, it's just no fun, it's just another obligation. For me. For all of you.

I am still proud of the epic story we've woven in Fierce Fortitude. It would be simply a shame to just end it now and let all our effort go to naught.

I want this site to be something wonderful. But I'm only one person. All I can provide is the house. It's up to everyone else on here to make it a home.

You know you have my support and help. I will do my best to think up something for you.

I'll be honest - I'm currently lax at my posting at the moment, and I am totally to blame for it.

I think one of the major problems is simply a lack of enthusiasm - there's nothing really to attract new people's attention, or to keep people here. Of course, things in real life are also a problem, such as exams, or summer holidays, or other things like that cause a lack of activity on the site. I can't really suggest anything to remedy that other than patience - Maybe things will pick up later in the year?

All I suppose I can suggest is to try and advertise some more on different sites, such as other Transformers Roleplay sites, or big forums such as The Bolter and Chainsword (a huge Warhammer 40'000 forum), or maybe some official forums such as IGN, Playstation, etc. I can't really suggest anything else.
Either that, or leave the site running, take a break and come back later, leaving the site in others' (hopefully) capable hands.

One thing you could do is some form of continuing competition, one in which the parameters keep changing, so it doesn't fall into the slump that the IDW Writing Comp did. So, what could happen is during one month (or whatever the length of time for it is) it becomes a writing competition, then a drawing one the next, then poetry, and so on and so forth.

It it, as always, up to you, Big Man.

And I thought I was helping...

Slip has some good ideas. Maybe we need to do another "soft-reboot" like in December? Everyone takes a break from the game a bit, we formulate ideas, the like. Slip's contest entry also sounds good.

Like it was said before, it's your call, but whatever happens, we've got your back.

You are helping, Omega, but you're still young, and you don't know all of what we've tried over the years. You're learning, and I appreciate your enthusiasm.

I'll admit to being burnt out as well. I haven't been able to really think of good posts.

Pancore - June 29, 2012 01:44 AM (GMT)
I myself and waiting on posts. And I really hope this site doesnt go down, that would mean that it will be the second one to do so.

a "soft reboot' might work we could discuss what to do next. I have been thinking perhapes we could do soemthing like the cybertronians fix their ship, and they were able to leave the planet or something, perhapes do some space stuff, like space battles, maybe a scientific mission or something..

We are kinda one of the last in a dying breed. How many other Beast-verse RP games are there?

But if you're feeling that way, Beekee, maybe you need a break. You're going through tough times as it is, and Lord knows the rest of us take minivacations from RP when RL comes knocking. You aren't exempt from that.

From what I can gather, the people who do RP actively here want to stay here.

And maybe the game doesn't need a soft reboot or another big baddy boss.

Maybe we need to downsize the game. Make it less of a huge population of colonist and more of the last survivors. We can whip up another disaster and make the game more akin to Beast Wars. We have a small amount of players, yeah. And, honestly, I don't think we're gonna see a huge upswing of BW-fans or even general TF-fans.

It'd be something like the Walking Dead. How characters shift and change when resources are low. It'd be an opportunity for all the characters to take a dive and surrender to selfish urges or to solider on and hang onto compassion.

Anyway. That's my two cents at... 2am. Just tossing it in the tip jar.

Maybe I do need a break, and maybe we do need a new direction for the game...

What would interest you all most to see?

Twitchythe3rd - July 1, 2012 04:44 AM (GMT)
Well, I like the idea of downsizing the game to squad-sized groups.
