Forum Rules Board Guidelines

1 - We ask that you do not insult, ridicule or threaten other posters, old or new that they may be. Also, please, do not spam :)

2 - We ask that whenever you wish to write about later parts of a game, you apply the spoiler tags to said text. Especially if it is something about the game's story, bosses, puzzles or items.
In the help forums however, it is not required to use spoiler tags for anything except the game's story. Failure to do so may result in warning, suspension or banning; depending on the number of times this happened, the severity of the violation (such as describing the game's ending) and possible maliciousness of the violator.
Alternatively, you may create a topic with the words *spoilers for "game(s) name"* in its title. That will exempt everybody from using spoiler tags in that thread for spoilers about said game. However know that said thread may not be modded, unless specifically requested for a violation of these rules.

3 - Due to the high level and frequency of malicious spam bots posting in the forum, registration is required to post replies in any of our forums.

I asked Jumbie to take a look at it. He only found a list and a comment on how Navi Trackers was basically a variation of BS Marvelous (nothing groundbreaking).

ah... aw, well.

Next thing of note;

http://jbbs.livedoor.jp/bbs/read.cgi/game/27325/1135242167/

Once again I'm digging deep into a site. Don't know what this says, but it apparently lists the BS Zelda Shrine URL. O:

More web-archiving. What's the "Satellaoff" mentioned in some of the pages here...? It couldn't be anything St. Giga held since this is post-2001...?

QUOTE (MadHatter @ Apr 20 2009, 06:22 AM)

I've discovered that there were a series of events (like this one that we're doing) that the hardcore Satellaview fans created on their own after St.GIGA stopped broadcasts. I know they had at least three such events from between 2001 and 2005. I have collected a bunch of info on these events and I'll make a full post on the topic when I have a moment to catch my breath from a truly brutal exam period I set myself up with.

Anyway this means that this event is the first of its kind in almost half a decade. I think that's pretty darned exciting. I had to break down an get in on this. I hope this extended deadline will bring in more players. Like Con said in his email, the more players the funner the experience will be for all.

Hah, I was just necroing back here a bit and I ran across Kiddo's comment about the "Satellaoff" events, which reminded me that I had intended to make a post about that at the end of last year.

From what I've read, it seems to me that the SatellaOFF events were a series of fan-conducted parties where the Satellaview uberfans came together (after all Satellaview broadcasts had come to an end) to play Satellaview-themed games such as Panel de Pon, Dr. Mario, etc. As far as I understand it, these fans couldn't use the Satellaview any more, but they had normal SuFami versions with multiplayer capabilities. Interestingly, the main SatellaOFF participants seem to come up again and again as you look back through the world of Satellaview Archives. These fans owned nearly all of the fan-pages about Satellaview that exist. From the few National Satellaview Event competition results I've run across, it seems that some of these guys were pretty good in the general rankings as well and several of them won prizes from St.GIGA. After the SatellaOFF events, these fans would all go back home and prepare elaborate SatellaOFF reports detailing every part of the event down to the food that was eaten and the seating arrangements. It's silly stuff mainly, and rife with incomprehensible in-jokes, but you can see that these kids (I guess they're adults by now) had a lot of passion for the games and had really enjoyed the inter-connectivity of the Satellaview system before it went offline.

It was in reading about the SatellaOFF events that I became so excited about the BS Zelda AST Broadcast Run competition we had back in May 2009. As I mentioned in my post above, I was struck by the historical nature of what we were doing. It's true we didn't all get together in one room and play Panel de Pon, but I think the event was as close to the spirit of the SatellaOFF events as anyone could hope for. I think it was a brilliant move on Con's part, and I hope we can do something like that again in the future at some point. Maybe we could even have (physical) prizes this time...

Finally, to make things even more real for anyone who's read down this far, here is as much photographic evidence of the participants of the SatellaOFF events that I could come up with. Some of these photos were taken during the events.:

This seems related. I haven't seen this before and I have done some searching for it so I assume it must have been put up recently. Either that or it's just been hiding from me. Anyway this is a website that discusses in detail Shigeru Izumiya's "King of After School" events called "How To Satellaview." This was apparently a series of quiz shows. Presumably high-scoring participants would have their names recorded in lists or perhaps there were prizes. Anyway many of the questions asked as well as the answers can be found here. Potentially useful for translation purposes if these ROMs can be recovered.

EDIT: For context purposes this is November 1995 - February 1996 material so it's not listed on Kameb's site

A quiz event with prizes? I wonder if the concept evolved into what "Waiwai de Q" and "Satella-Q" became.

This didn't seem to have much at first glance, but at least one thing caught my eye -  a list of some of the radio programming.

Here's me being sloppy with Google Translate on it. (Then I fix some things based on what NicoNicoDouga has.)

blink.gif Wow. The same one? Considering that most documentation about her career seems to be post-2000, this seems like interesting trivia!
This makes me wonder - what was "Ookami ga Kita" (assuming www.romaji.org got that right) about? I tried looking up the show before, but much like UNDAKE30 and the Sunday Seminar, found no info.

Big bumpage.

I did a good check on JP sites again, this time filtering so I don't get too much "old" results. here's what I got;

http://mikarinbsx.blog.fc2.com/blog-entry-4.html

interestingly, "Mikarin", the guy who upped the first few BS Zelda videos to Youtube, appears to still post things now and then.

An arranged piece of Satellaview music.

Not sure on that one's Twitter, but it came up in a search.
