This could be considered a video game topic (and thus not fit for this section), but it's not really about the game (can it even be called a game?)
I was just curious: has anyone here made movies with the "game" whose title this topic shares? Care to share them (or experiences in making them) with us? -------------------- |

I have made one with this ingenious program. HOWEVER, I was only borrowing the game. But if I buy it I'll be sure to flood this board with topics all about my projects
Actually I really like some of the realism involved with the game. The camera has a much more color riched scheme than it looks like when you're shooting it. I'm gonna go to bed in a bit, but I'll type up more of my thoughts and feelings on this tomorrow. @Duke: sorry about not being on MSN today, hopefully I will be tomorrow. And just FYI, I'm still pretty sure that I don't want to do the teleporting thing. And I'll just keep it the one song |

I was completely confused when I first read the thread, then it suddenly clicked what we were talking about - shut up, I've just come from a long car trip and I'm a bit slow at the moment
Unfortuantely, I haven't played with the game at all, so I don't really have anything to add to the conversation anyway at the moment - still, it should be interesting to hear about what others have accomplished with it -------------------- |

Then I guess we can look foraward to Possum's next post (I haven't played it either, but I've started to come up with thoughts as to what I could do with such a thing)
I've had thoughts about what I would do if I had a program which could allow me to hack movies up ever since the disappointing ending of Indipencence Day (I mean seriously, starships the size of a city destroyed by disabling their main cannon? Infecting the alien computer with a virus complete of laughing skull when most viruses won't work on different versions of Windows, let alone a Mac? And a single nuclear warhead placed in the hangar blowing up a ship that was a quarter of the moon with a single explosion?) In fact, everybody may feel free to use this topic to share their experiences with any movie making programs/games. -------------------- |

Well, there's no denying that it has limits. It's a bit irritating, but every game has to *somehow* be objective driven, so that's where you get the whore tantrum's from your actresses. But as far as freedom went, I was surprised with how much of it there was. I'd reccomend just playing the darn thing. And DON'T get a console version. Get the PC version.
EDIT: But if you have questions, I'd be thrilled to answer any that you might have. This post has been edited by 2awesome4apossum on Jan 17 2006, 11:45 PM |

Well you answered one of my questions right away: how annoying is the "studios simulation" part of the thing.
Another other one would be... how much freedom does it give you in terms of customization? I should hop that one can make their own polygonal sets, props and costumes, but what about the actors' physical appearence and voices? [Edit] Notice that I mean both the voices themselves and their intonation. Can you tell your actors when you want to hear some mirth in their words? Or sadness? Duke - didn't on the extent of the sort of changes you wanted to make, you could always re-edit the movies themselves with current editing software on computers. There's a whole community of people who re-edit movies (unfortunately, the best link I can find at short notice is a wikipedia page.
Getting back to the game - sounds interesting, I'll have to check it out (I wonder if anyone I know has a copy so I can try before I buy)... -------------------- |

And has anybody given a decent ending to ID4 as far as you know?

No, not that I can remember - it's been awhile since I last checked in on a message board where they were talking about re-edits, and I can't remember it's address (which was why the wiki page was all I could come up with on short notice)... someone was working on Terminator 3, although I don't think there's enough in the movie or the deleted scenes to really improve it all that much...

Terminator 3 needs improvement? I only thought it was disappointing how lead us (and them) on to believe that they were going to accomplish something while they were just going into hiding.
Dunno how that could be "fixed" though. -------------------- |

It was dissapointing, IMO, (but not unenjoyable) it was one long, long, chase scene... which wouldn't be bad, except it was all pretty much the one chase scene. There just wasn't enough meat to it's bones.
Also, I liked the ending - it really brings the series full circle, and I hope they don't do a fourth, as it would be taking the narrative to far. We've left them at the perfect end point, we know where the story is going to go next, and so we don't need to see anymore. -------------------- |

What I always hated about this series ever since number 2 came out, was that we don't get enough of the future war, just snippets. Which is why I liked the third one, because it's at least the rise of the machines if not their peak. Furthermore, you have to give them credit for continuing from the second one's ending in a plasuble manner.
But I can agree about it being a long chase scene. Oh and for the records, in case I'm misunderstood: I never thought of using the movies to make an alternate ending for ID4. That would be crazy I was just mentioning that with regard to other programs and when I started to be interested in this kind of thing. -------------------- |

Basically you have to choose from their options. There's a little bit of MODing already being done, and I can only pray that the fans continue to extend the experience, but basically you have to choose from what they have. But it's amazing how many different ways you can combine the options and such. Although I'd reccomend just getting a Camcorder and maybe the Adobe Editing Suite (inclusive of Premeire, Photoshop, After Effects... and something else that I can't remember because I rarely use it...) for true freedom |

Can you go more in detail? I'm not sure when (or if) you addressed the voice issue. Can that be done just through mods?

It sounds like there's a certain amount of voice etc options to choose from in the game, but people have been modding new ones.
