Why are these people making these so expensive? It can't cost that much to make one of those. -------------------- |

I guess MottZilla will get a collapse seeing this. Which part of "non-profit" do people not understand?
I mean it's cool having these games on a cardridge, and of course they have to have an old working cardridge to delete the old game and copy the new one upon it (used game card max ca. 30$)... working time, ca. 20-30$. So if it would be sold for max 70$ I think it's non-profit and thus ok, but 170$?! -------------------- |

Maybe a splash screen could be added at startup that says the game is not for sale on the public download version, but the people who can be trusted in the community can get a clean one.

I guess people won't care. MottZilla clearly imprinted into the rom that his hack is for non-profit, but neither the seller nor the customer care about; why should they?
It's kind of parasitism to use others altruistic offered work for making profits. In our case it is not avoidable unfortunately. As long this is a rare event we should simply ignore it. -------------------- |

I'm going to try to clarify some things about what a "reproduction" cart costs. Particularly talking about BS-Zelda. You can probably make one for a bare minimum cost of something around $15 if you can get a suitable donor cartridge and programmable memory chip (ex: eprom or flash) for good prices. But ofcourse we are also talking about, if you make it yourself and if you get good prices on the parts. It also would require that you already have the tools you need to do the job.
For a higher quality job, and paying for someone else to put it together the cost would go up. But rest assured we when start talking about cartridges for $80USD and whatever crazy amounts over that, it's all greedy profit. And absolutely under no circumstances should my BS-Zelda Map 1&2 patch be sold on eBay. Should anyone want the game on a cartridge please do research or ask about who can do an honest job and isn't a profiteer. As a general guideline I'd say Con was right. If someone wants more than $70USD or so you should really inquire as to why it costs that much. |

For those of you looking to get BS-Zelda on a cartridge there is some news. There is someone I approve of making cartridges now. And the price is reasonable, unlike what we've seen posted on websites or on eBay. I'm going to make another thread about it.
