Hello Everyone,
I'm writing to inform you guys that in the near future I will be cancelling the dedicated server that hosts all of our websites. I simply do not have time to maintain, secure and monitor a dedicated server by myself, and fear that should my immediate attention be required (ie, a hack attempt, the server dies, etc) I will not be able to dedicated myself to bring the server back up. Therefore, I'd like to ask everyone currently hosted on our server to find alternate hosting by November 1st. I can recommend www.dreamhost.com as a host that should meet all your needs. While I can't help you move your side individually, feel free to email me any questions or tips you may require. My apologies for the inconvenience! Khuffie -------------------- |

dreamhost unfortunately is a costly host. Since we
a, do not get money for our efforts b, do want to stay anonym this isn't an option. Does anybody know a more or less secure host with about 500 MB free space, maybe also with mail possibility (Duke uses this) where we could move to? -------------------- |

I never had to work with hosts because my friend is hosting our site so I don't know about this, but what about this place?
http://www.000webhost.com/ It seems good... -------------------- |

Does that include everyone on the forums?! Or is it just certain members?! Will we still be able to play the downloadable games, & view the main site?! Hope it all goes well... Best Wishes: TP!! The forums are on InvisionFree so it shouldn't affect them. It will affect the main site until we find a new server.

I'm sure (or hope) that they have a backup of the site, nothing should be lost.

hm, that sounds good with http://www.000webhost.com/
though I am not sure. Is there anybody who knows about such free hosts? I now also wrote to zelda universe if they are interested in hosting us. Does anybody know about other sites than zeldalegends which is hosting sites? @Tuffi: yeah, we have backups (no information will be lost; the page will be transferred 1:1 to our new host), the forum will stay online in any case (just get direct acces by http://z9.invisionfree.com/bszelda/ instead of the link over the main page. Edit: I wait for a reply of zelda universe, then I try http://www.zeldadungeon.net/ - they have at least no problems with emus&roms Oh and http://zelda-temple.net/main/hosting host sites, too -------------------- |

Eh, I guess this should have been expected. Updates at Zelda Legends have been scarcer than on our site as of late. Still it's strange... none of this is being discussed on neither the main site nor their boards. I'm going to try post in the staff section to ask for clarifications, perhaps Lord of Shadows (and/or Davogones?) already have a plan.
I'm not sure if they are, but we are quite popular over at Zelda Informer. Me in particular, or at least I was. I've pulled two vanishing acts on their forum (remember Con how I mentioned that there was another Zelda related project I had to forgo due to limited free time?). There's a chance they may not be too happy with me right now. Still I could try asking.
That is also a good option, but I'd like to try Zelda Informer first (since I know pretty much everybody there etc.) ...in fact, I would have liked to ask them first, especially since they are not exactly best buddies with Zelda Universe... Edit: On a quick inspection it doesn't look like Zelda Informer hosts any sites. Might still be worth trying to ask, but it may be unlikely for anything would come of it. If it's any helpful, I could move/keep a mirror up at my Tryhappy webspace.
Just supply me a backup of the current site and I'll see to uploading it. I might also consider seeing if perhaps the place be moved to Superfamicom.org instead, but the tryhappy space is easier since it requires less permissions. (YET ANOTHER EDIT: Callis has said that you can contact him if you'd like some superfamicom.org webspace. His contact info is on here; http://eludevisibility.org/contact/ So now, you most certainly have multiple options here.) This post has been edited by KiddoCabbusses on Sep 12 2010, 01:07 AM |

Looks like I need to do a "last minute backup" again, just to ensure we all have a mirror to hold on to in case of emergency.
Sucks that we're losing our host... but at least there appears to be options out there. I might look into a few of the "free hosts" myself, given that I've a few webprojects I've not put online because I have no hosts myself. -------------------- I'm officially retired from beta testing, and resign my duties to those who have the time to do it.

I would prefer a Zelda related site rather than a free host...
Duke can you contact zeldainformer, if you know them personally? Since I don't know when zeldalegends cancel their server, I will contact zelda-temple (however, they say that they will not further host sites, but maybe they make an exception) and then zeldadungeons very soon. After we moved, there might be some inconveniences, to redirect all links (e.g. @bszelda.zeldalegends mail addresses; forum pics, advertisement banners, back buttons) - it might get a bunch of work to rewrite all pages. -------------------- |

I have a spare PC, I could install EasyPHP and hMailServer on it and use it to host the website myself. Only problem is that I haven't signed up for unlimited bandwidth nor a fixed IP, so that would be an extra CAN$12/month on my bill for doing so. Not too bad.
By the way, the guestbook no longer exists... -------------------- |
