The other day someone asked me if Bandai had really made it. And, to be honest, I don't really know. What source(s) does this name come from?
There's no Bandai logo on the box or anything, and on Zelda no Video they only call it the "Satelyaveu". So... what sources are there? And, if not, what the heck does the B stand for? This post has been edited by Garrett on May 8 2005, 10:52 AM |

To be honest, it doesn't particularly matter to me who made the peripheral. I'm more interested in the people behind the games.
But about the words BS stands for, earlier opinions had it that it meant Broadcast Satellite. Then somebody started calling it Bandai Satellaview and everyone else switched to that. Like I said it's not biggie to me. Though I do admit being curious myself. -------------------- |

Any of you actually have a BS? It should have a logo on it somewhere...
...And you could check to see if the BSX BIOS ROM has a manufacturer ID... -------------------- |

No none of us own a BS-X! Goodness me, if we did we'd have photos and everything
The BIOS ROM is one idea, but that doesn't necessarily help... Well, Broadcast sounds more plausible than Bandai making hardware. Although they did make a dance mat... |

hehe... you should have seen the price one was going for on eBay--no wait, you can!
http://p082.ezboard.com/fmottzillasxtremeg...opicID=76.topic hehehe... most bidders were wanting it as a "doorstop" for bragging rights only. *I*, on the other hand, would make a Super Devtendo for it. hehehe... |

Sacrilege! *slaps Garret with an angry Cucco* ![]() ...And $88US is still cheaper than 61GBP. (Comes out to about $115USD) Check out this page, and see if you can spot Bandai anywhere on the console/docs, even though the page calls it Bandai... I said *for* it, not *out* of it, honest!
*cucco heads for Possum instead* hey, look, homing cuccos! Duke trained them well! ...but first I'd need to buy a SFC, huh? ...not to mention 240V conversion issues... ...and I'd need to give it a Jap-sounding name... but all I can come up with at the moment is "Super Famicrack", which sounds a bit... uh... dodgy... Yeah, looks like Bandai is a misnomer after all... which I kinda guessed, but I assumed Duke might have some special isnight on the matter... |

So Duke, whats your take on this whole 'is it Bandai' thing? After taking a (quick) look at the images in the URL above, I can't find any Bandai logos or anything. We need to sit down with a Jap IME, and punch in some of those manual/console strings to see what its translated to... *lameboyadvance nominates everyone besides himself. -------------------- |

...But calling it a Bandai, when it very well may not be, is like saying the Game Boy was made by Enix.

I didn't spot any Bandai logos when inspecting the images for 5 mins. Only tons of Nintendo logos and Satellaview writings. I really wonder from where the name Bandai Satellaview started? It would be easiest to find out it's name by asking form a real person from Japan tough...
Duke, isn't there a lot of BS-X game dumps that have the title screen which is unhacked and there's written the maker? Atleast what I can see from that site which lameboyadvance posted a link to, many of the games have in the title screen copyright by Nintendo and St. Giga. And I totally agree with lameboyadvance that it's stupid to call a system by wrong name. Imagine that you spend 10 years making a great game console and then it get's sold under for example Bandai's name, so we must find out the real creator and stop the miss leading names... I find it funny how others may get so worked up on this... guess it's because I've never been very interested in hardware (I'm the kind of guy that doesn't feel the rush to get new systems)
I do however approve of your investigation (if you will wish to carry out one). As I said, I am curious. Anyway, the title screens may or may not help: they might just credit who made the game, not the system. But then we do get several Satelliaview/Nintendo logos... About the title screen thing, I was referring to the fact that you were interested in who made the games, so I didn't mean that there would be written who made the BS-X.
I'm sure that the text written in this picture there's written who made it, if we just had someone who could read Japanese... This post has been edited by Real Hotdog on May 10 2005, 04:41 PM |
