Title: BS Tantei Club.
Description: The general topic.
KiddoCabbusses - January 7, 2008 09:14 AM (GMT)
Actually, I've made this thread specifically, because along with the videos I found on Nicovideo, there's apparently another site from someone -different- who recorded the gameplay. Better yet, for any one who cares, I don't think it requires any knowledge of logging into JP sites to see.
http://www.stage6.com/user/oruru/video/101...U-part1-St-GIGAJust to make sure you know - again, I'm watching this to check, and it seems at least slightly different - the loading screen has the silly dog-surfing animation, instead of the LSD-drug trip-like effect It also has some of the obvious signs of VHS recording. :|
Duke Serkol - February 16, 2008 04:00 PM (GMT)
Can it be downloaded or only watched "live"?
KiddoCabbusses - February 16, 2008 11:46 PM (GMT)
I found the download option first -and was promptly struck with "AAHHH 500+MB! MY CPUI CAN'T HANDLE".
Maybe now it -can- though. I'm gonna try again.
Duke Serkol - February 17, 2008 01:11 AM (GMT)
I can't seem to figure out how it is that one would download it.
KiddoCabbusses - February 17, 2008 03:25 AM (GMT)
Well, I use firefox with the DivX plugin, and the video shows up with either the ">" or "DOWNLOAD" options. The latter, of course, for... downloading.
It's apparently a .divx file. I'll see to trying to get it... not necesarily a fan of large files though.
Duke Serkol - February 17, 2008 03:09 PM (GMT)
Ah, gotcha then, that's why I can't find it.
KiddoCabbusses - February 17, 2008 03:32 PM (GMT)
Aw, that stinks. If you're still using Internet Explorer, I suggest you make a change to something different.
As for me, I'm trying to DL the .divx files, but apparently my internets are screwy right now, so I repeatedly get a cut-off-, corrupt movie file... Aw, well. Just keep trying...
Garrett - February 18, 2008 02:04 AM (GMT)
You should be using a download manager such as
GetRight. This will allow you to resume failed downloads and also use multiple connections to download a file faster (which really helps if you only have dial-up). Since I started using download managers I've never had to deal with corrupted files, and I download
lots of stuff.
GetRight isn't free, so it uses nag windows in the manner of WinZip. If WinZip doesn't bother you neither will this.
KiddoCabbusses - February 18, 2008 03:33 AM (GMT)
Thanks for the help. I think I'll manage now. I got the first file uploaded. I'll link it when I got all 3.
KiddoCabbusses - February 19, 2008 02:56 AM (GMT)
Duke Serkol - February 19, 2008 03:46 PM (GMT)
Will do! (And will edit this post when I'm done downloading)
...but geez, why not put them into rar files? :P
KiddoCabbusses - February 19, 2008 08:42 PM (GMT)
.rar archive? What would be the point? Unlike ROMs and other things, divx video is already compressed. The filesize would not be any smaller.
Duke Serkol - February 19, 2008 09:34 PM (GMT)
Ah, my bad. I failed to consider the "this is DivX encoded" notion when posting that ^_^'
Do you think you could reduce the size by converting it to flv format? From what little I've seen of it, it doesn't look like the quality is so good that it would be shameful to reduce it some more.
KiddoCabbusses - May 24, 2008 04:43 PM (GMT)
Sorry for not posting in this one thread sooner, I sorta forgot about it until I checked the FLVs and found some boring trivia.
But anyway, Duke - that's an idea. I'll consider converting to FLV at some point indeed.
But anyway, what I was originally going to say was that I was checking the NicoNicoDouga vids and just noticed -now- that you can apparently see the Fortune Teller House from AST's Live Broadcast in them. Hehe.
Duke Serkol - May 24, 2008 11:04 PM (GMT)
Which vid has the house? The one for Satellawalker 2? Or some other one?
KiddoCabbusses - May 25, 2008 04:13 AM (GMT)
ah, BS Tantei Club's vids, sorry.
(although, since NicoNicoDouga doesn't have anything for Satellawalker2, shouldn't that have been apparent?)
Duke Serkol - May 25, 2008 11:53 AM (GMT)
Please take a screenshot of that then :)
KiddoCabbusses - May 25, 2008 04:40 PM (GMT)
But I'm bussyyyy. D: Can't someone do a ctrl+printscreen on the entries on my blog? Ah, blast. Aw, well. I guess I'll get to it...
Duke Serkol - May 25, 2008 04:41 PM (GMT)
Oh I suppose I could do that, yes.
Incidentally, I just added that link to your blog on the site :)
KiddoCabbusses - May 26, 2008 01:44 AM (GMT)
Duke Serkol - May 26, 2008 02:36 PM (GMT)
This is certainly peculiar... the ALttP fortune teller house present when BS Tantei is being broadcast and not when AST was. And I have screenshots from two separate broadcasts of AST, but being loaded through Bugopotamia temple.
How weird. I can't make sense of it.
KiddoCabbusses - May 26, 2008 06:20 PM (GMT)
Well, perhaps BS Tantei Club was re-broadcast during AST's "Premire", or at some point where it was the featured game?
The house probably stays there for the duration of the time when the BS Zeldas played.
If we got broadcast dates for both BS Zelda AST and BS Tantei Club, we should try to find a time when they both may have played during the same week.
KiddoCabbusses - May 26, 2008 07:06 PM (GMT)
http://www.f3.dion.ne.jp/~kameb/satella/st_prg/st_prg.htmI don't want to read through all that, but it looks like an Archive of the Satellaview's schedule.
Does anyone want to find a time where BS Tantei Club and BS Zelda AST were on the same week?
Duke Serkol - May 27, 2008 06:19 PM (GMT)
That sounds like a good plan. I'm way too tired to do it now, but remind me if I don't by tomorrow.
KiddoCabbusses - June 14, 2008 05:45 AM (GMT)
Tsh. I decided to try to check for myself. Of course, I can't read Japanese well, so I diddn't know where to look for where I was looking for it... or whatever.
What I did find was that some of the most strange stuff they had was listed in plain english
""THE BS-X FILES file 601"
"SONIC BLASTMAN"
"DARIUS FORCE"
"SPACE INVADERS The Original Game"
"CAMELTRY"
Duke Serkol - June 14, 2008 06:12 PM (GMT)
Damn, I knew I'd forget... sorry, I'm rather useless these days -_-
Tuf Pic - June 14, 2008 09:58 PM (GMT)
Unfortunately, when I went to that site, it had shut down!!!! :(
EDIT: Looks like I'm the 3rd person to post in this thread!!!! :D
DOUBLE EDIT: Oops, make that the 4th person!!!! :duh:
KiddoCabbusses - June 15, 2008 03:18 AM (GMT)
Right, I'm digging into that shcedule some more. Here's what I think I'm learning from it.
1) The Satellaview schedules all go from 12:00 to 26:00. Clueless of how to interpret this since there logically should not be a 26th hour, I'll interpret it as "Noon to 2 AM".
2) Downloads generally stayed available during set download hours for a duration of about a month before a big schedule change, and were put up multiple times a day.
3) There does seem to be evidence that more than one Broadcast game could play in a single day or week. In particular, one time it seems BS Zelda AST and R no Shosai played back-to-back.
The schedule seems to mark what kind of content it is with a symbol. Notably, a Spade seems to be a download game, while a circle-in-a-circle is a broadcast game. There are various other symbols too, which might refer to news, radio shows, or whatever.
4) Something special seems to happen during the weekends, but I'm not sure what it is as I can't read it.
5) A VERY PECULIAR LISTING THAT YOU MAY FIND INTERESTING:
Januray 1st-3rd, 1997
"☆16:30~17:00 BSゼルダの遊び方 バグポタミア神殿"
What is this, now? It apparently plays just before BS Zelda Map1, Week 3, and with that star symbol is neither a broadcast or download game. Perhaps a radio special or some sort?
(EDIT 1: Google translates the thing as "BS how to play guitar"....which is totally off, but apparently it's just messing with the term for "Zelda", so the translation for the program may be "How to play BS Zelda". Perhaps a sort of tutorial?)
Duke Serkol - June 15, 2008 12:36 PM (GMT)
Figures, as if all the instruction given during the broadcast were not sufficient
Anyway, nice find. I wonder if any of the games you've been finding videos for could be downloaded (my guess is no, since I think they all have a timer, but still...)
KiddoCabbusses - June 15, 2008 03:56 PM (GMT)
Well, I will say that a ROM dumper... ah, yeah, in fact, this guy;
http://eludevisibility.org/I've been in contact with him. See that update with the Satellaview ROMs he plans to release? One of them is a BS Fuurai No Shiren Week. He dumped it from a Memory Pack which appeared at first glance to not have data (Broadcasts did not show on the Bios, to my knowledge) and showed me a bit of the sprite data. After I told him what game it looked like and gave a few pointers for emulating, he was able to identify the ROM. Woohoo!
But aye, the point is that, yes, broadcasts were downloaded on Memory Packs. The most likely scenario is that they were then overwritten by other things afterward, but there's still a fairly good chance that Memory Packs may have data from broadcasts.
You happen to have a Memory Pack lying around you don't think was dumped yet? >_>
Duke Serkol - June 15, 2008 11:00 PM (GMT)
Haha, I'm afraid I don't, sorry ^_^
KiddoCabbusses - June 15, 2008 11:06 PM (GMT)
Ah, fiddlesticks.
Well, I'll probably be on the lookout then. Hopefully I can get more ROM dumpers interested in trying to find Memory Packs to dump, or maybe I'll run into more videos or radio shows that have been archived. I keep looking, yes I do.

Sorry for the bump, but I was amused to discover that Nintendo still has BS Tantei Club materials on the Japanese portion of its webpage.
Nothing
too interesting I suppose but
here is an old advertisement flier for the game and
here is some promotional art for it.
I'd never seen these. I wish there was a larger version of the flier. Oh well.
By the way, though, as Tuf pointed out earlier in this thread, the Stage6 link is dead and the Internet Archiver has no backup of it so now that you're not hosting the divx versions Kiddo, are those videos lost for good?
MadHatter - June 18, 2010 04:51 PM (GMT)
I also think it's funny that the
official Nintendo page on ALttP (or KnT as they have it) still uses pre-release pictures from the beta. I assume this is just laziness on their part.

I don't think those videos are gone for good; in fact I thought I had an alt. back up for them. It's private though, because Callis complained to me about streaming such large files before.
I'll try linking them to you in a PM.
MadHatter - June 19, 2010 07:43 AM (GMT)
Ah cheers. That was actually something else that came up in the 2ch thread I was talking about. Apparently there had been some infighting between the posters there and someone had ratted out the user on Stage6 who had shut him down for copyright infringement or some such thing. That got me rather worried.
KiddoCabbusses - June 19, 2010 08:05 AM (GMT)
Was he the one that uploaded the first BS Tantei Club week to NicoNicoDouga? that was deleted quite a while ago, but I have the NND upload of that as well, of course.
!!!
Perhaps that same guy has the BS F-Zero Grand Prix 2 Dai-2-shuu videos? And the R no Shosai one?
MadHatter - June 19, 2010 05:49 PM (GMT)
It's hard to say who is who on 2ch since the vast majority of posts are anonymous sages but I can give you a chronology of the video posts (see below). I'm pretty sure all the youtube links work. I can't check any of the Nico videos. The filebank thing is quite interesting passwords are given but the posters provided them. The one with the "stgiga" pasword still works. The other one doesn't. None of the omanchin videos seem to work. Anyway...
Video post timeline:

KiddoCabbusses - June 19, 2010 07:05 PM (GMT)
I could never get those omanchin files to work, much to my own dismay. :( It really frustrated me.
