Gabriel was born on July 4th, 1985, in Coffman Cove, Alaska - a small town on Prince of Wales Island. The main income of the town was the fishing industry and salvaging, though there was a lumber mill and logging company not far away that employed a decent percentage of the townspeople. Gideon was the mayor of Coffman Cove from 1988 until 2006, as well as the leader of the town's militia (which consisted of a mere 30 volunteers), and a partner of the local logging company's owner. He also started a small fishing business with his daughter Allison and a few local fishermen that was descently lucrative.
Gabriel didn't spend a lot of time with his mother and father, or sister really, once he was in high school. He did, however, spend a great deal of time with his older brother-in-law: Jack McCray. Jack was considered by much of the town to be a nuisance and a poor reflection on the town. However, many people would also admit that he was useful, helpful, and generally charismatic when there was a real problem. He was the son of the Harold and Kathreen McCray, Harold being the owner of the lumber mill, and Gideon's partner in the logging company. Jack and Allison had known eachother for a long time before they got married.
Gabriel did however think some of the things that Jack did were odd. There were times when he'd be gone for a week or so, and then suddenly come back - some times with a good sum of money, other times with little more than he left with. He seemed to be able to provide very well for Allison, but would never really explain where teh money came from. Most people didn't question him about it, and neither did Gabriel... until he overheard a phone conversation that Jack was having. Something about a large sum of money, oil, and ships. When Gabriel called Jack on it, at first Jack tried to cover it up, but Gabriel soon put two and two together - the random large sums of money, going away suddenly for a couple weeks, the mention of oil & ships... He'd heard on the news rescently that pirate activity was on the rise... but he'd never in his wildest dreams thought it could originate from a town as small as Coffman Cove. Or... that was... until now.
After a lot of back & forth about what Jack really did for a living, Gabriel finally convinced him to let him accompany him to the meeting place. Since Gabriel had been a child he'd heard about pirates, and while these weren't the romantic versions, these were real life, modern day, pirates. Telling his mom and dad that he was just going on a trip for a week or two (during summer break) with Jack, he packed his things and they took a small, single engine plane to the meeting place. Said meeting place turned out to be an abandoned landing strip. Meeting another fifteen men there, they went by truck to the coast where some speedboats and an old whaling vessel were waiting. The old whaler had been overhauled for use by the pirates. The speedboats could be lifted up by cranes for repair or loading, there was a sonar system, radar system, long & short range radios with multiple frequencies, an armoury, a small helicopter pad, and light machineguns adorned the railing. The speedboats were armed as well - each with a light machinegun and a grenade launcher. The total number of speedboats coming to six, and the total crew coming to fifty, plus Jack who was their captain.
Gabriel accompanied Jack and his band of pirates on their raid, and was at first slightly skeptical when he saw the size of the ship they intended to hit - it was an oil tanker after all. The bloody ship was huge. Jack just laughed though when asked if he really thought they could take the ship. He then went on to explain that taking that ship would be very easy. Most oil tankers and large cargo vessels had very few crewmen, and had gigantic blind-spots, and Gabriel soon saw what Jack meant when the speedboats approached the tanker unnoticed. It was only a few minutes before the boarding party radioed that they had the ship under their control and the ten crewmen taken hostage. From there the boarders loaded the crewmen onto the speedboats before taking them back to the whaler. They would later be asked if they wanted to join the pirates. Those that said yes were allowed to join, those that refused were sent to a cohort of Jack's to be ransomed back.
Jack told Gabriel that taking the oil tanker was his biggest job to date, and that he had great plans on what to do with the wealth gained from this venture. The cargo would be eventually sold off, and the ship would be taken in as salvage. Then he told Gabriel that "As family of the captain... and as you were here during the taking of the ship... you 'are' entitled to an officer's share..." And thus he did indeed promise him an officer's (one and one quarter) share (he did in fact get him that share later). Jack did have one question for Gabriel though - if the young man would join the crew. Seeing how much money could be made, Gabriel couldn't say no. After joining with the pirates, Gabriel essentially became Jack's apprentice (many of the "crew" jokingly refered to him as the "cabin boy"), and whenever he was on break and Jack got a call, he'd head out with him.
Graduating early at seventeen, Gabriel took up the role full-time and helped Jack form a company - a salvaging company. Nobody qestioned the salvaging company, as there were quite a few ships that got reported up in the Bering Straight and all around Alaska. As well, salavaging not only pertained to the vessels adrift at sea, but any vessels that were abandoned for longer than 24 hours. A good deal of profit was made just by normal salvaging procedures alone, though that wasn't really the purpose of the company. The true purpose was for it to cover the pirating activities. Tug boats with inflatable motorboats, Jack quickly discovered, were just as useful as whalers, fishing ships, and speedboats. Perhaps moreso, as the smaller inflatable boats were much quieter than the speedboats, and could thus be used at night without attracting attention.
A year or so passed before Jack decided that he wanted to expand his operations toward the south. Noting that Gabriel had once mentioned wishing to attend a college in California, he brought the idea up with his younger counterpart. Gabriel immediately agreed, though also advised that perhaps a legitimate business might also be very lucrative. Jack agreed, and decided to setup a few businesses in the Los Angeles area. Glass bottom boat tours, a ferry, a fishing business, a small salvaging company, boat repair & maintanance, and a junkyard all sprang up inside the next four years. It was in the fifth year that Jack asked Gabriel to go down to Los Angeles and take control of the small businesses there, as well as open up some of their less than legal operations. Gabriel accepted the task and headed down to LA by plane - two converted fishing vessels and four essentially unarmed speedboats heading down the coast to meet him there, with a crew of merely forty men.
In the next five years, Gabriel not only completed his schooling at UCLA, but transformed Los Angeles into a modern day Tortuga; if it wasn't one already. Local authorities were bought and looked the other way. Avalon City on Santa Catalina Island became a pirate haven. Even the Coast Guard was having a rough time - they couldn't pin anything on the pirates. Gabe's crew in Los Angeles swelled from a mere forty men to close to four hundred, and soon enough the pirates nearly owned the city. Another year passed, and soon enough Gabe was doing nothing more than administration in LA. He wanted to do more, and so he spoke to Jack once again. As it turned out, Jack had been having dealings lately with both the Russian and British mafias. Jack gave him two choices: set up operations in London, or setup operations in Stalingrad. It was simple really - Gabe liked it warmer, and he didn't like Russians.
And so, Gabe ventured to London, setting up cover businesses and bringing over some of his boys and equipment from LA. After a few years, he also setup some small operations in Ireland, mainly in Dublin. He currently works in conjunction with Jack's contacts in London, and the small cells of pirates he controls. However, since his arrival, he can't help but notice strange occurences around London now and again. Of course, he does have a hobby of sorts to keep his mind off of things.... comedy. Ever since he arrived in London, he's been spending time at a comedy club when he can.
