I kissed a girl
"and I liked it.
The taste of her cherry chapstick.
I kissed a girl,
Just to try it.
I liked it."

Rumors. It seems to be a word that can make teenagers stand on end or crave the gossip. One story can tear a person down to the lowest form of human life, so far down into the social crevasse that there is no hope of ever returning. It doesn't matter if it is true or not, no one, not even the sweetest person, can resist the allure of passing on what they heard. And then there are those who get the sick pleasure out of starting rumors, hell bent on ruining lives. Not even Hogwarts was exempt from the infection. It bred and fueled it instead, the queen of stories none other then Genevieve McLaggan. Genevieve liked to think of herself as a saint, a godsend in stilettos to all who knew her.. She was doting to her friends, helpful to her family and there for the younger years; she never hesitated to give her advice on any topic, even if it was unwanted. She was just "nice" like that. She didn't hesitate to punish those that deserved it either. She had spent her last six years at Hogwarts building up a credibility for her "information"; she was a one stop shop for all the gossip of the school. With that kind of power no one seemed to doubt her if she said that Professor Longbottom was really once involved with a troll; students were that gullible so don't blame her for using it on those that deserved it, like the Kenny girl.

Rebekah Kenny's first mistake was going out with Flynn McLaggan just for his looks. She should have listened to those muggle books she grew up reading; guys and looks equaled no personality. Flynn McLaggan, with his hard muscles, toned abs, perfect tan and sparkling teeth, was everything she dreamed about night after night for the first four years of her schooling. Of course nothing happened. She didn't know the first thing about boys. Thats when Genevieve stepped in, said something to her brother and boom! Instant dream come true. She wanted her brother happy, she said, and Rebekah would be good for him. For a while she was. Rebekah's outgoing nature pulled Flynn out of his shell, pushing him into the social limelight he deserved; in return he did things to her body that she only read about. The carnal aspect of their relationship was enough to fuel her for five months. When summer came and the pair separated it just wasn't the same. With out the contact there the connection died. Rebekah dumped Flynn through an owl the minute she realized, body buzzing with the idea that she could move on to the next adventure.

Rebekah's second mistake was expecting Flynn to be okay with the breakup. Flynn was far from being okay with it in fact. Never in his life had something been taken away from him, especially not a girl. It might have sounded cliché but no one broke up with him. It didn't take long for him to realize that he didn't have the intelligence or the resources to pull it off. Thankfully Genevieve was willing to help. It took less then 3 minutes to get the story straight to create a train ride Rebekah would never forget.

"Did you hear about her summer?"
"...tongue shoved down the throat of another girl"
"Do you think she'd try to straddle me on a couch, cause that be gross"
"I'd threesome with her and her girlfriend any day'

Everywhere Rebekah went whispers followed her like a shadow. She didn't mind at first, being above gossip but as they got louder and more obnoxious she lost her patience. But every time she asked what someone was whispering about she would only get a stare and then mumbling. By time the Hogwarts Express pulled in to Hogsmede every student, excluding Rebekah, seemed to know about Rebekah and that wild night. For two weeks the whispers continued driving her insane. Determined to know what was going on she went straight Genevieve only to be met with a cold glare. It took twenty minutes of the silent treatment for Rebekah to walk away in the same state she came, having no clue what was going on. Genevieve, on the other hand, felt worse. She couldn't believe that the ungrateful slut would have the balls to come up and ask her for a favor after breaking up with her brother, after she, Genevieve, did a favor without so much as a thank you. Well anyone who didn't appreciate a good thing didn't deserve to have anything good. Within an hour the stories of Rebekah's summer got worse.

"I heard her mum kicked her out of the house because she found her with a girl!"
"who would of thought a looker like that would bat for the other team."
"Holy Merlin! She was always so nice to me and here I thought it was her personality, not that she wanted to get into my pants!"
"The teachers don't know what to do. They're considering moving her into her own dorm because of the complaints from her room mates.'

As October started no one wanted to look at the fifth year; her own twin was avoiding her. Never in her fourteen years of life had Rebekah felt so alone. The snickers behind her back didn't bother her anymore, she was too numb to care anymore. If no one cared about her then why should she care about herself, she rationalized. She was wrong though. Flynn never stopped caring; he watched her sink into herself from afar day after day. At first the sweet vengeance was satisfying; she was learning what it felt like to be ridiculed after something embarrassing. But slowly it lost its taste, seeming more cruel then anything. But he didn't do anything to stop it. He didn't need to care, he shouldn't care but he did. How could he stop the story? If he tried anything people would just praise him for sticking up for her, they wouldn't believe. The rumor had spread through Rebekah killing her happiness and reducing her into a shell of herself but the guilt Flynn was feeling was multiplying what she was feeling. If he didn't do something soon he wouldn't be any better off then Rebekah
