He really didn't want to be here. He should've known better than to respond to a text from his ex, but something told him to go ahead and show up, even though there was a side of him that told him he should've just blown her off. But then he'd just look like a jackass. So he showed up.
It's not that he was always like this. He is usually a pretty easy-going guy. But ever since he broke it off with Elyse, he's been pretty distant from everybody. With good reason, of course. How else was he supposed to act after a nasty break-up? He's not going to be insanely giddy about the whole situation, skipping down the hallways throwing rose petals. No, he would rather hole up in the library and sulking in the shadows of the school. You know, normal break-up attitude. Then why was everybody expecting him to be more assertive about the situation?
With his hands stuffed in his pockets, he sauntered down the hallway towards the cafeteria. He had his mind-set already ready: A quick hello, how are you, take the pictures, thank her and go. It was going to be quick and easy, no 'small talk' conversations or 'I miss you's'. Those were just asking for trouble. Turning the corner into the cafeteria, he quickly scanned the large area for the vaguely familiar blonde. Sure to her word, there she was, stack of photos in her hands. He took a breath, and meandered his way towards her.
"Hey." He said quietly, not really looking at her, mostly at the floor. She probably knew that he didn't want to be here, so hopefully she wouldn't keep him here. It was awkward enough, with the stares he was already getting from classmates who knew too well that the two of them weren't getting along.
