I know that most folks recommend against getting involved in any activities during one's 1L year, and I'd certainly agree that you it doesn't seem wise to be responsible for the administration of any organization/activity, but as I recall from undergrad, club's etc. were a great way to get to know people (particularly people with similar interests).
Would it really be that detrimental to one's grades to occasionally stop by a Federalist Society, Environmental Law, et al. meeting every once in a while, or is time in law really that scarce? Does anyone have any interest in being involved with any campus organization as a 1L or is everyone going to wait until 2L or beyond? |

I don't think it would be a bad thing to stop by activities/clubs. Time isn't scare, so much as it is important to just correctly budget your time. If something catches your eye, I say go for it. |

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I guess the key is just to keep from getting bogged down with outside commitments and not compromising your study schedule.
