Generations ago, two packs clashed in a tremendous battle. With heavy losses on both sides, each pack fought until the leader of one side was felled by the other. Arshigo prevailed and forced the other pack, the Keva’al, to leave. The heir to leadership of the Keva’al vowed vengeance on the Arshigo for the death of their leader and the eviction of their pack. Then, they left. What was left of Arshigo made their own decision that day, to keep to themselves and stay within their pack territory because they did not desire and could not afford another conflict so major.

As time passed, a clan of lynx moved in alongside Arshigo and a mischievous pack called Dirac staked claim of their own lands as well. The lynx were a friendly group and often tried to befriend Arshigo and inquired what their past was, but Arshigo always declined their offers and said nothing enlightening about their past. Dirac was one to become a thorn in everyone’s side, pulling pranks and making mischief with every chance they got. Anyone made a suitable target and those in Dirac were bold enough to take their pranks to lands not even their own.

Then came the day when strangers appeared and settled down in once abandoned lands: the Keva’al had returned, still holding their grudge despite the generations since the war. Through plots, schemes, and other forms of recruiting, they worked their numbers to grow so that one day they could settle the score. Their leaders were vicious and their ways were ruthless as they worked toward their goal. As their strength grew, so did their chances of success against the Arshigo, even as the Arshigo discovered their return.

Unfortunately, nature has a way of throwing its own twists into everyone’s plans. A mountain in Keva’al, known as Abattu, erupted. It rained destruction and debris across Keva’al. What lands were not irreparably damaged became void of prey thanks to the scare. The Keva’al wolves were forced to leave their lands, becoming a nomadic terror. Their numbers had been reduced thanks to the eruption, but their goals were still the same.

Another victim in the spring the year the volcano erupted was the lynx clan. Their numbers had been dwindling, but the final blow came when their leader was killed protecting a youngster. The clan was thus destroyed and a potential ally of the Arshigo vanished, leaving them more alone for when the day came that Keva’al finally would start a new war...

Welcome to Twilight Memories! Before you join, it is recommended you read the "Joining" and "Main" rules, though you will have to read all those other ones if you do join. If you consistently break the rules, then chances are the mods and admin will get very upset with you...Well...What are you waiting for? Get reading!

Quick Nav:
Joining Rules || Main Rules || Breeding Rules || Fighting Rules || Group Rules || Land Regulations || Prey Guidelines

Joining Rules

1. In order to join, you must have read, understand, and agree to abide by the rules of the site. If you display actions that lead staff to believe you have not read the rules, you will be asked to read them again. If you continue to behave contrary to the rules, suspension or banning may take place.

2. When registering an account, you MUST register under the name of your character. That means no numbers, underscores, or random, unnecessary symbols in your name. If someone already has that name, make a different one. The name of your character must be properly capitalized.

3. You cannot have one account for two characters! If you are going to play two characters, then you will have two different accounts, one for each. This is to avoid confusing other players during play.

4. There is currently no limit on the number of characters you can have, so long as you are able to keep up play with ALL of them. Should you start falling behind, a staff member will contact you to suggest you cut back on your characters in some way by either writing them out, killing them off, or putting them up for adoption if they have a main part. Don’t take on more than you can handle.

5. You must post your application in the proper forum and wait for it to be accepted before posting anywhere in character. You can post in the OOC boards all you want, but you may not enter the role play until your character has been accepted. If you are asked to change something about your application, please cooperate and do so; it makes the admining and moding jobs so much easier on us and makes us less likely to be in a sour mood.

6. You must have a picture in your signature of your character, whether it’s a manipulation or hand-drawn. If you have trouble with this, there will more than likely be image-savvy people hanging around that would love to lend a hand. Please do not use identical images as someone else. As more people start to role play, that may be a problem, but please just try to watch it.
NOTE: Please try not to exceed 590x400 pixels for your siggy image! Use an image too large and you will be asked to resize/replace it. If you don't, a staff member may delete it from your signature.

Main Rules of the Site

1. This role play is for Intermediate and Advanced players! As such, post expectations will be higher than at most role plays. One liners are absolutely unacceptable, as are posts that are one giant paragraph with no breaks. Your posts must be decently thought out and in a good deal of depth. The minimum posting length is Two Sizable Paragraphs, approximately 275+ words. Posting less than that length will get you nagged by the Staff. Repeatedly posting less can get you suspended or banned.

2. Since this is a board on the internet and will be visible to passerbys, this site will be rated as PG-13! We don't want to be scarring people for life with things they shouldn't be hearing about, eh? It is expected you go into detail about fights and similar, but only to a certain point. Be careful about what details you write with when you go to post. We don't want this getting too far and turning into something inappropriate and disgusting. You will get only one warning if you go too far, and your post will be deleted. After that, you will be banned. There are no second chances here.

3. Like any good role play, god-moding and power-playing are forbidden! Your character cannot control the actions of another in your post...Sure, they can try to manipulate the other character with some sort of psychological method or blackmail, but your character cannot make someone else's character do something they did not do. Neither can your character read the thoughts of another, nor is s/he invincible. If you are found to be PP or GM, then your post will be deleted and you will be told to redo it.

4. To be respectful to others who are at this site, keep your swearing to a low scale! Some people, such as myself, don't like swearing. If your character is really that ticked off or upset that s/he would be swearing, at least try to avoid the harshest swear words. I do not want to see the "F" word plastered everywhere on this site! If you swear too heavily, you will get a warning. Continued over use will get you banned. Swearing is a really lousy way to fill in post length.

5. Please keep in mind that this is a role play site and if someone's character has a grudge against your character, that does not mean that that person doesn't like you. OOC fights and IC fights are two totally different fields. DO NOT bring OOC issues into the IC world, or vice versa! Work them out elsewhere! Also, please, for our sanity, no fighting in the Cbox! It's there for chatting when people are waiting for posts to be put up. If you are unable to resolve your issues, then I suggest you either ignore each other OOC, or one or both of you leave so you don't irritate the rest of Twilight Memories' populous! If you continue to fight and stay at this site, I may just take matters into my own hands, and who knows what that will result in!

6. This site does not have Liquid Time. It is impossible for your character to be in two places at once and a pain in the neck to try to figure out what order things go in if you skip around. It is expected that writing a decent post will take a while, so response time to your post may not be short. Ideally, someone should respond within three to four days if you are in an active area. However, people do have jobs and school which (hopefully) take higher priority than a role play. If you feel that it is taking way to long for a response to come, then you may EDIT the post you last made (not make a new one!) to say you are leaving, or do something else, or whatever.

7. To avoid confusion and people getting annoyed, DO NOT post for one character within the account of another! For example, you are writing a post for Talna, but when you post you discover you are logged in as Horatio. If you DO do this by accident, just log in as the correct character and post your post under that account. A mod or admin will be by sometime later to delete the accidental post. If you don't take the actions to correct your mistake, then you will get nagged by the Staff. If you keep doing this, then further measures will be taken.

8. For the sake of less confusion in role play, when you character leaves an area, please write at the end of your post "~[insert name] has left the area.~" or something similar so no one thinks your character is still hanging around. If you don't, you may get bugged about it, but this is not something you can get banned for.

9. If you are inactive for long periods of time, your character(s) will be deleted, or put up for adoption if they were a prominent character. How does this work? Every so often, anyone who has not posted in 60 days will be put on a warning list for deletion that is visible to everyone, set for a specific date. If they do not make a post anywhere on the boards by that date, then their character will be deleted! Really, even in the school year 60 days is enough to at least shoot off a short little OOC post so we know you're still alive. Posting in the Cbox or PMing or just logging in does not count, sorry to say. You absolutely must post somewhere on the boards!

10. To make things easier for everyone reading posts, please put thoughts in Italics and speech in bold or a different color while leaving the rest of your post "normal." This way, when someone is looking for whatever you character said, it is much easier to find than having the entire text look identical. This is especially helpful for very long posts...which I'm sure will show up here since this is for more advanced role players who are able to make nice, in depth posts. So, be nice to your fellow role players and give 'em a little difference in the text so it's easier to sort through.

11. There is generally a posting order in a topic that follows the order characters first entered into the topic. However, this may be disregarded in the following manners:
  • A person in a topic can officially be skipped if they have not posted in about a week’s time of the last post, OR if they have not logged into the site in over five days time already on ANY of their accounts (check the Who's Who topic to see which characters a person has), OR if they have posted their absence in the Departure Forum.
  • If a topic has 5 or more characters in it, posting may become more liquid, i.e. you do not have to wait for every single character to have a post up before you make another one. You need only wait till three posts have been made by other characters before you make another one. In other words, you may not have more than one post for one character out of ANY SERIES OF FOUR POSTS in that thread.
  • If you are fighting another character and there are non-fight characters witnessing the fight, the fighters may post more frequently so that the fight does not hang up if one of the witness characters is not around/slow to post.
  • Remember: If you are in a one-on-one or low-population thread and things seem to hang up, you have the right to edit your last post (or make another post if yours was not the last one made) to move your character out of the thread if you so choose to get your character in a more active area. If you need to get your character moving for a plot, it is recommended you take this action.

Breeding Rules

1. First of all, breeding must be available in the season in order for it to occur. Breeding season will be in mainly be during winter, and offspring will generally be born in the spring. However, breed too early in winter and your pups/cubs may come too soon, leaving them in a rather dangerous situation with the weather. Breed too late and you may have to do a good deal of hunting to find a den that hasn't yet been claimed.

2. You MUST fill out the proper form in order to officially breed. If you do not, then any attempt to breed your character will be foiled by Staff deleting the posts. Once you have filled out the correct form, you must wait for it to be accepted before you and your partner actually breed. You will both be informed of how many offspring your characters will have, what genders, and what due date when all the dice have been rolled. You may have anywhere between 0 - 6 offspring in a litter!

3. Please remember not to get overly graphic with this. We don't need the nitty-gritty details. If either of the players in the pair is uncomfortable in saying much anything on the matter in their posts (I'm sure some people are a bit squeamish on verbalizing the matter), then you can just imply the breeding occurred, or state rather blandly that it did occur at the end of one of your posts. If you get overly graphic, see Main Site Rule #2.

4. If you are in a pack, it really is best if you ask the Alpha(s) permission to breed first...if not, your application can still be accepted, but who knows how the reigning pair will react to the news that someone is having pups in the pack without permission...Take your chances there, if you wish, but you were warned!

Fighting Rules

1. You absolutely, positively MUST fill out an application to fight! If you are found in the middle of a fight without an application, all posts related to the fight will be deleted and both persons in the fight will be chewed out by whoever discovered the fight. Remember, this is IN CHARACTER fighting. You may not start to fight until your application has been accepted.

2. Unless you find some astoundingly clever way to weasel your way out of a direct confrontation with a character that is challenging you, you must fight them. You may argue over PM on what you want to happen in the fight, or what the outcome should be, or you may just see how it goes if you give it your all. Whatever way, the fight shall be observed by the Staff to make sure everything goes smoothly. For those of you who have characters that like picking fights, don't just up and continuously attack some one or some group relentlessly, unless your character has one really big bone to pick with someone. Give the not-so-good-at-fighting characters a break from time to time.

3. Even if you and your challenger have decided on the outcome of the fight, be sure not to power-play! Your post will be deleted by a Staff member if there is power-playing or god-moding in it! It may be tempting to skip ahead a couple steps to get to the end of an already decided fight, but don't! Same goes to you people who are just seeing where the fight goes, too. Watch your writing carefully to avoid power-playing.

Group Creation and Destruction

1. In order for a new group to be formed on this site, it must have at least ONE decided leader and TWO following members. The two followers MUST be in agreement that their leader deserves to be leader.

2. Upon creation, a group may lay claim to a section of lands to be their territory. These lands must be adjoining on the territory map. The number of land-segments that may initially be claimed is NO LESS than 2 and NO MORE than 5. A group is not required to make an initial claim, however; it may be harder to gain land later for the group if this is not done.

3. The following are the different standards for a group to be destroyed:
  • All members have been killed
  • The group does not meet the minimum of ONE leader and TWO followers (Rule #1)
  • The group leader has gone inactive and there is no replacement to take over
  • The group leader has been killed and there is no replacement
  • General disbandment of the members from the group
4. If a group is dissolved/destroyed, all the lands that the group had claimed will be lost from that group and will appear as unclaimed/up for grabs once again.

Lands: Claiming, Gaining, and Losing

1. Groups can claim and gain lands throughout the game, so long as the lands are adjoining their territory. However, they may only gain 2 new land-segments to their territory through exploration. This is to prevent a group from monopolizing the map by being the first to post for exploring every time it is open. Only High Ranking group members or members with permission from high ranking group members can make a claim. Can't have subordinates running around making a bunch of land claims when the group can't handle protecting the extra lands, eh?

2. Groups can lay claim to lands pre-existing around their territory, i.e. ones that have not been recently opened to exploration, if those lands are unclaimed and there is cause to claim them (for example, and the primary example, for that matter, your group has grown a lot in size and needs more space). This can be done up to a MAXIMUM of 3 times, and the group MUST have good reason to expand their territory.

3. Groups can gain lands through territorial disputes by fighting their neighbors for it. To do so, a challenging group must go to the piece of land in question and make a territorial challenge on the group that lives there. If the reigning group fails to retaliate to protect their lands within 14 days, then the piece of land will automatically go to the challenging group. Remember: In order to gain a piece of land into your group’s territory, it must be adjoining one of your territory lands.

4. Conversely, groups can lose lands through territorial disputes by failing to protect them properly. If you are the defending group and do not make efforts to protect your territory or you lose the fight, you will forfeit your lands to the challengers. The following are the different standards for losing the territorial dispute:
  • Your group leader is killed in the battle. Even if your group has a replacement, death of the leader means your group automatically loses the battle
  • If your group leader is not leading the fight, but has appointed someone to do so, if that character dies, then your group loses the battle.
  • 50% or greater of your forces in the dispute over the piece of territory are killed. If both sides have equal loses, then the group that already owns the lands wins.
  • Retreating from the fight. It may need to be done to save lives, but is an automatic loss.
5. If you lose a piece of land in a territorial fight that connects your territory together (in other words, once lost, your territory would be split in two pieces), only one of the two resulting segments will be your territory. The other segment will either go to the group that took that essential piece of land, or turn into unclaimed territory, up for grabs again. The segment your group keeps will be up to where the leader of your group is at, or goes to, after the territorial dispute is finished.

6. There must ALWAYS be at least 5 Neutral Lands in play on the game. At Least 3 of those lands must be adjoining. Lands cannot be claimed that will disrupt this rule. All claims for unoccupied lands will be turned down if there are only 5 Neutral locations left. The only way to get new lands at this point will be through Territorial Disputes, or Exploration if it is available. Please refer to the territory map when considering claims of any sort to be sure lands are adjoining and to see if claims are available.

Prey Guidelines

1. No person will be playing prey animals as a character. It is up to your character to seek out, successful or not, their food. Keep in mind that a lone wolf cannot take down a full grown deer on its own, nor can two wolves take down a healthy full grown deer on their own. Loners will be stuck with smaller prey, such as rabbits, mice, and similar. Only decent sized packs will be able to take down a large animal.

2. Though a wolf cannot take down a deer on its own, a lynx can take down a smaller sized adult deer so long as the terrain is to the cat's advantage. Deep snow is bad for deer, good for lynx with their large paws. However, they prefer to go after snow-show hares and birds rather than large prey...fish even.

3. In a pack, it is up to the Lead Hunter or Alpha to call up and lead a hunt. No other wolf in a pack can declare this kind of organization. If they really must get food, then they have to go for smaller prey on their own. In the lynx clan, there is no such organization since each lynx is well equipped to get enough food on its own.
