Grim once again got closest to the team I'll be fielding, which (after a tiebreaker in the CBox) will be:
Sakuya C. Flandre C. Yukari Chen C. Suwako C. Tenshi hereafter known as Team Screw You Surge. Update tonight, probably. |

Wow. That's... actually kinda awesome. Woo for Team Screw You Surge!
Also, yes, Suwako fits the team theme better than Marisa. |

Update 18: Take it Easy
First order of business: When I was getting Chen up to speed with the rest of the team, this happened: ![]() ![]() Add another tick mark in the Ayanote, I guess. Anyway, since this is pretty much the same team we used last update, I'll do something a little different, by which I mean character backstories. Most of you following this can tune out and just look at the pretty pictures. ![]() Sakuya's the head maid at the Scarlet Devil Mansion, which appeared out of nowhere in Gensokyo years ago. She does pretty much all of the work there. One wonders how she finds time to sleep--oh, right, time manipulation powers. Nobody knows how old she actually is, though she looks to be about the same age as Reimu and Marisa. Hell, nobody really knows where she came from, either, though good money's on her being a former vampire hunter. ![]() What happens when you take a vampire, give her "blow up anything" powers, and lock her in the basement for several centuries? Why, you'd get Flandre. She's far more powerful than her older sister Remilia, but also a little crazy. Also, if you don't know what her theme is, you haven't been paying attention. ![]() Way back in the day, Suwako was a big-time goddess, even ruling her own kingdom. Then some jerks called the Yamato came along and said that they were going to unify the island into some country called Japan or something. Suwako, of course, wasn't going to let this happen on her watch, oh no. But after a single vine from her opponent disintegrated all of her army's weapons, Suwako conceded. Funny story, her opponent that day was a goddess by the name of Kanako Yasaka... ![]() Shikigami, in onmyoudo tradition, are typically charms that can be turned into humanoid familiars, invisible to all but the person that summoned them. This should be your first clue that Chen ain't your ordinary shikigami. Most of the time, she's not that big of a threat. However, when Ran (her master) decides that Chen needs to start kicking ass, then... well, I hope you're good at running. Or have water handy; water will un-link shikigami from their masters. Plus, she's a cat. ![]() Well, if it isn't Ms. Hax herself. Yukari's very old, even for a species as long-lived as youkai. She's also very powerful. Thus, she spends most of the day asleep, unless it's winter. Then she spends all of it asleep. It's rumored that she had a hand in the creation of the boundary around Gensokyo, though one has to wonder how she managed to fit that in-between her naps. ![]() Gensokyo doesn't have good people and bad people, per se. It has bored people and powerful people. Bad things happen when someone is both bored and powerful. Case in point: Tenshi. Now, as a celestial, your responsibilities are, in order, 1.) party hard, and 2.) take it easy. This apparently gets boring after a few centuries, so Tenshi made a habit of watching Gensokyo after a while. What she saw was people using their powers for making mischief, and enjoying themselves. Tenshi wanted in on this, so she "borrowed" a Celestial sword and went to work. Incident creation: So easy, even a Celestial can do it. I'll shut up now. ![]() "Have you ever had that urge? I'm sure you have. I wanted to battle certain people again over and over, too. So I've been giving these away. Please, take one!" ![]() OMG yay! ![]() "You have to charge its battery to use it, though." Like she said: The VS Seeker allows us to go another round with trainers, provided a few conditions are met: 1.) We're on the overworld (so sorry, no rematches with Gym Leaders!) 2.) They feel like it. Beats the hell out of grinding Wild mons, though. ![]() Didn't we cover this in, like, update 2? ![]() "... stats and abilities. Touhou raised by a Trainer are stronger than ones in the wild." This is because of something called Effort Values (EVs hereafter). How they work is: Fight Mon, get EVs. You can have up to 510 per mon (from 3G on); any more would just be silly. ![]() "But, all Touhou will have weak points against specific types. So, there is no universally strong Touhou." In this game, anyway. Actual Touhou games... well, that's a different can o' worms entirely. ![]() "She'll be back in Vermillion about this time next year." And maybe then we can actually make the party in time. |

![]() "My Touhou is tamping the land to lay the foundation." ![]() ![]() ![]() Poor poor ![]() That sounds suspiciously like philosophy to me. Shut up before it catches. ![]() "Team Rocket traffics in rare Touhou, for example. They also abandon Touhou they consider unpopular or useless. That's the sort of horrid people they are, Team Rocket." Plus, I hear they can't train Touhou for crap. ![]() : Sounds like my kind of place.![]() ![]() ...this is why you proofread, kiddies. ![]() Um. I think I'll leave you to your comparative analysis of puppets... ![]() At this point, there erupts an argument between the Chiyuri trainer and the Lily White trainer over the cuteness of their puppets. : You don't say.![]() : I'm not quite sure that he can top those two.![]() "I raise more than a hundred Touhou! I'm very fussy when it comes to Touhou! I surely am! So, did you come visit to hear about my Touhou?" Let's go with yes. ![]() ![]() ![]() .... Three hours later... ![]() : Nonsense. Now, what were you saying about the nuances of English transla--holy crap it's been three hours.![]() Maribel received a Bike Voucher from the Chairman! "Take that Bike Voucher to the Bike Shop in Cerulean City. Exchange that for a Bicycle free of charge! Don't worry, my favorite Tokiko will Fly me anywhere I need to go. So, I have no need for a bicycle. I hope you like cycling!" Once outside... : That was definitely one of the strangest conversations I've ever had. Who knew that people got that obsessive over these puppets? |

![]() "I simply looooooove fishing! I can't bear to go without. Tell me, do you like to fish?" : Not quite that much, but it's fun.![]() "Take this and fish, young friend!" ![]() "Fishing is a way of life! It is like the finest poetry. From the seas to rivers, go out and land the big one, my friend." ![]() : Well, why not. It's not like I ever cat--![]() : Holy crap, I got something!![]() ![]() ![]() Hina Kagiyama's a curse goddess. She gets two duties: scaring humans off from a big-ass mountain in the middle of Gensokyo, and gathering misfortune from them. She's a Poison-type in this game, and is... well, this game's Magikarp in terms of rarity (or lack thereof). ![]() : So the gate guards aren't letting the mail through, either? That kinda sucks.![]() ![]() ![]() This doesn't look ominous at all! Not one bit! ![]() Well, here's the outskirts of town. Looks like we've done all we can here. Apart from the Gym, I mean. I wonder what's out here... ---------------- Well, guys, it's decision time: Where do I go first? Option 1 is explore Route 11 first, while option 2 is take care of |
