Summary:
In 1913 a large circular object (the stargate) was found in Egypt, By a doctor Langford. ths object was taken to America for study. It was first activated in 1944 after many years of experimentation, however the scientists told no one about activating it as the man that they sent through, never came back. The project was scrapped and the object was put away.

In the 1980's a new team of scientists began studying the gate which was moved to Cheyenne Mountain. It took scientists 15 years and 3 super-computers to figure out how to work it. With the help of a Doctor Daniel Jackson they managed to understand it's purpose, instantaneous transportation to other planets which had a stargate as well. At first they thought it only went to one planet, but later discovered that it went to many other planets. Unfortunately there was an evil race of aliens known as the Goa'uld(snake-like creatures)who have the ability to enter one's body and take full control of it. Because of this and their advanced technology they fooled many planets into believing that they were gods so those planets were enslaved. The goa'uld are mortal enemies of the humans of Earth. the team that regularly goes off-world through the gate to explore and acquire technology is known as SG-1.

Major Samantha Carter (A military scientist- Amanda Tapping)
Dr.Daniel Jackson (An archeologist- Michael Shanks)
Teal'c (bad guy gone good- Christopher Judge)
