Hello there folks!

First off brief introductions, I'm a newly established fantasy fan became absolutely engrossed in ASoIaF to the point of obsessions. After reading the series thrugh a few times I turned to Mr. Lynch/Lamora and have thoroughly enjoyed these books as well. Not quite in the same way, but an equal read in my book! (Drumroll!)

So I, naturally, came across these forums. Having poked around the ubiquitos http://www.westeros.org for sometime I figured I'd try and join the Lamora equivilant and try to establish myself a bit, help some folk out and most importantly spread the word! We all want the books to grow and suceed, the more fans the merrier!

At this point I have to say I haven't found such a site. If one exists, my apologies, if not I wondered if people felt, at this point, such an online respoitry would be of benefit to a) bolstering the current community and cool.gif promoting growth and new community members?

The site would feature the usual libraries of character information, location information, fan art and fiction (if Mr Lynch approves), FAQ's and so forth. Granted it won't be thick with tomes of information as the nature of the books tends to be more limited in scope than other works of fantasy; but i'd like to think it would be interesting and helpful for people to have access to this sort of information?

I actually run an independent game studio, and we have plenty of server space and bandwidth available to host the site. Getting a design together certainly won't be difficult either. The areas I would most need help in are:

a) content - I've read the books through (obviously) and will do again, this time typing everything up for the site, but having others help me would be of tremendous benefit.

cool.gif participation For those who haven't the time to help with content regularly, would you still appreciate the website? Obviously we could tie them into forums, preferably these (though I haven't approached the administration about that), or if needs be a fresh set.

Any thoughts or comments are most welcome, thank you for reading through,

Rob Sandbach

No-One? Maybe there's not such a demand then!!

If you would like to see a central website at all, please post and let me know!

Thanks!

I'd be willing to help out, although my time will be rather limited until the summer comes around. It would be a good excuse for a re-read. smile.gif

I also think that moving the forum could be a good idea, especially if it was to a URL along the lines of therightpeople.com, so it would be easy to remember.

Above all, we need mods that won't just bugger off and leave this place to sink slowy into the spam swamp.
If you open a new one, I'd definetely be up to be mod smile.gif

I think that Scott Lynch's books are extremely interesting and deserve a nice place on the net to be discussed.

I agree. If the staff can't be bothered there isn't much hope for a forum to survive.

I have to say that I am very disappointed in what I find here. I was hoped for a more vibrant community on a forum free of spam. sad.gif

I'd love to see a new haven to discuss the GBs in a more controlled environment.

I would be more than willing to help. I have been searching for a fansite for a while, but absolutely nothing-- minus a massive amount of reviews -- has turned up. It's nice to see some people expressing interest in a site!

Unfortunately, I'll be heading off to Japan for the next five months, and the program that I am going with is pretty adamant about me limiting my computer time. I would still be able to do *something* though (it would just take me a while), so if anybody is still interested in this sort of project and has some sort of job for me I would be ecstatic!

=___= bah, hope that was coherent. 'just finished an overnight shift, and I'm fairly certain that I've been reduced to the mental capacity of a two year old (a two year old who knows how to work a computer mind you).

I'd prefer to have the current admins permissions before going ahead with this. Has anyone heard back from them yet?

I am actually a small web host so the hosting would be free biggrin.gif

I talked with Ini a month or so ago (and he seemed generally agreeable to ideas), but Os is the one who has actual admin privileges on this site, and he seems to be returning neither PMs nor emails.

I could try harassing him a bit more, as it would be nice to be able to transfer all the posts, accounts, etc. from this board to a new site, but at some point it won't be worth waiting anymore.

due to the type of forum this is, i don't think it is possible to transfer posts/threads

Free hosted forums generally don't give you database access, and there are no means to back up yourself. unsure.gif

edit...

the owner can get it, but may be charged....

OK, I'm going to get this ball rolling. To note, I don't plan on replacing these forums at all, if the mods/admins become active I'll just link straight to it. The website will be at

http://www.camorr.com

Should be done in a month or two!

Thanks,

Rob

Just an update, I've created some forums over there people are welcome to use in the absence of the mods/admins here. I'll be checking them daily, and posting there myself whilst working on the accompanying fansite.

http://www.camorr.com/forums/

NB

If this board ever gets some TLC back, then I'll see about linking here aswell. From the looks of things, and the lack of response from my emails, it seems the admin have abandoned/forgotten it sad.gif
