Waking in a new home

Shady woke with the sun and found herself huddled close to Saberain, who was still sleeping it seemed. Instead of getting up, Shady tested the air for any peculiar scents but smelled not but last night's prey and the sweet scents of the spring air. With a sigh, she slowly raised herself up, stretched and yawned. She promptly realized how tired she was and sat back down and decided to clean her fur.

A rustling by his side woke Saberain, who almost immediatly followed his awakening with a huge split of his jaws into an enormous yawn. The alpha looked up and caught the warming dawn rays of light on his fur, closing his eyes appreciatively at the morning heat. He heard the million drips of water from all around him as the sun melted off the last of winter's frost. After a few minutes Saberian at last heaved himself to his paws, briefly licked Shady as a good morning, and began to walk around the camp, stretching his muscles with each awakening stride.

Shady shifted her weight onto her haunches and stretched her legs, shaking herself. This took some of the weariness away but it was still prevalent.

"The days* are getting longer," She, sitting back down, commented to Saberain. "I am used to sleeping though the long nights and also having rather lazy days." Shady continued suddenly without waiting for a comment from Saberain, "Is there water in the camp or must we go to the river?"

(is there a different word that we use for days and nights?)

(I don't believe so, though I did just finished reading two wolf books by an author who uses "sun" instead of day. I think it'd get a little tough for all the newbies to remember that, though. ^^)

Saberain decided to answer Shady's first query anyway. "Yes, and our days are going to be filled with much lounging as well until we get some members." For a moment Saberain paused, contemplating. "However, I heard that there is a place where some lone wolves gather to wait for a pack. Perhaps we should visit there some time."

Then he pointed his nose to he furthest part of camp and spoke. "As far as water, once we exit our camp we simply circle around the bush walls and would find the river only a few deer-length away," he said. "But so far I have not spotted any breaks in our walls for us to slip through other than going all the way around. I suppose this is a good thing, of course," the alpha chuckled, "when we get some young pups in our midsts."

"Having a secure wall is nice even without pups," Shady pointed out, "it helps keep coyotes and other menaces out." Shady laid down, basking in the rising sun. She closed her eyes and listened to the serene chatter of the spring song birds. Slowly she opened them again and turned to Saberain, "So what is todays agenda?" She asked.

"True," said Saberian. Then he closed his eyes alongside Shady, trying to think of something productive that could be done that day while he basked in the rich morning sunlight. "You know, Shady," he said after a few minutes, "we really don't know any of the other pack leaders very well, not to mention if some of the territories have even been claimed yet. What do you say we go and figure out how many packs there are so far, and then collect gifts to bring to Seven Corners for them?" A starling flitted down and began tugging at a worm in the ground. But at that moment an even larger bird swooped down, chased the little creature away, and stole the worm for himself. Watching the encounter, Saberian added, "I suppose it is good to leave a first impression. But we need to find which territories have been claimed. No good getting a gift for Tundra if there are no Tundra wolves, right?"

"That sounds like a great idea!" Shady exclaimed, rather excited for adventure. "But wwhat kind of gifts do we give wolves of other packs?" She asked tentitively trying to think what the forest might have that was unique from other packs that the wolves might like.

(I am sorry for the short post I am horribly sick... it hurts to type)

(Oooh, poor Loki. I was wondering why it seemed rather quiet. ^.^ Anyway, I'm at my grandparents for four whole days, so I'll try to get done as much as I can but the connection here is really slow.)

Saberian eyed Shady contemplatively. "Now, Shady, I believe you can help me answer that. Try to think. Forest wolves are known for their brilliance, but one must exersize the mind whenever they can to keep it in such prime condition." The alpha decided to think with the she-wolf to help probe some ideas. "Desert wolves have probably never tasted such a sweet delicacy as bee honey, the likes of which we find frequently in our hollowed logs, would they have not? Also, for the packs whose climate are similiar to ours, a simple prey offering would suffice. But can you think of any other things?"

"Hmm...." Shady hummed in a thoughtful manner. "Well the tundra must still be freezing so if we could offer an herb that helped warm the body... my mother used to give me something of the sort but I am no healer..." Shady slowly panned her surroundings, taking in the sweet breeze and beautiful sights but she didn't know how much other packs would appreciate the simple beauties around her. "What prey do the plains lack that we have I wonder," Shady thought allowed but then added, "We should see the packs first, depending on how many members they have they might need different things."

Saberian nodded approvingly. "We also have the finest moss on the Mossy Rock, which can be used to line the dens of some of the other packs. But I agree with you - let's go see which territories have been claimed." With that he spun around and bounded out of camp, heading towards the Plains border.

(ACK!!!! WHY DIDN'T IT TELL ME YOU REPLIED!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!!!!???!?!??!?!?!? *cough cough * anyways...)
"Wait for me!" Shady called after the Saberain. "Should we split up!? Or should I wait here!? Or..." She had no idea what she was supposed to do so she bounded after Saberain in a rather surprised despair but she had an air of playfulness all the same for the air reeked of adventure.

(Wait! and on top of that it says you posted February 13th...! but I could have sworn... no! that can't be... well it still didn't email me!)

Saberian just laughed and continued onward.

Shady cocked her head to the side, questioningly. After Saberain kept continuing she let out a sigh, looked around camp and trotted after him. There wasn't any reason for alarm now, it was spring and the packs were small... there seemed little to worry about but the mothering nature in Shady felt apprehensive about leaving her home unprotected. The curious nature in her overpowered. So she followed.
