Adana entered the cold dungeon, shivering despite her sweater. She sat down in the professor's chair behind the big wooden desk and waited for the students to show up. When they all assembled, Adana stood up and addressed the class.
"Good morning, students. Welcome to the make up session of Lesson #1: Confusing & Befuddlement Draught. Since you missed original lecture, I have created notes based on what was said. After you have copied the notes down, read the directions carefully and thoroughly before making the potion. When you are finished with your potion, place a potion bottle filled with the potion on my desk; it will be your role call. After you are finished, be sure to clean up your station and wash your hands before you leave. Ther will be no homework assigned this class. And now, for your assignment." Adana waved her wand and words appeared on the chalk board.
| QUOTE | Notes About the Potion Sneezewort is a kind of yarrow, and its leaves can cause sneezing if you are not careful. Scurvy-grass is one of several sea-coast plants with four-petalled cross-shaped white flowers. It was, at one time, eaten by sailors in order to prevent scurvy. Lovage, also called Levisticum oficinale, is a culinary and medicinal herb in the carrot family that is native to southern Europe but which has been introduced to North America. When combined together, these ingredients are most efficacious in the inflaming of hte brain, and is therefore much used in confusing and befuddlement draughts, where the witch or wizard is desirous of producing hot-headness and recklessness.
Confusing & Befuddlement Draught: Preparation You will need: 4 drops of sneezewort tincture 8 scurvy-grass petals 1 ounce of lovage leaves 2 1/4 cups of water
First, create an infusion out of the lovage leaves, scurvy-grass, and water. Pour the water into a small cauldron, bring to a boil. Add the lovage leaves and scurvy-grass. Steep for 11 minutes, and drain. Pour the liquid infusion into a medium-sized cauldron.
Confusing & Befuddlement Draught: Creation 1/2 cup of flobberworm mucus Infusion of lovage leaves and scurvy-grass 4 drops of sneezwort Tincture 1 potion bottle, dark green
Add the flobberworm mucus to the infusion of lovage leaves and scurvy-grass petals. Stir with your wand over low heat for two minutes. When the potion begins to emit a mist, add 1 drop of sneezewort tincure. Stir with your wand. Allow it to simmer for 5 minutes until adding another drop; repeat until all drops are added into the potion, and remember to stir each time. After all of the tincture has been added, raise the heat under the cauldron to medium. Allow it to come to a slight boil before turning it off. Stir with your wand, and place the lid on the cauldron. Wait ten minutes before taking the lid off, and filling the potion bottle. |
Adana sat down in the seat and observed her students with a keen eye as they completed their assignment.
