well guys, the soulstorm demo has finally arrived! the dark eldar are featured in it. what are your thoughts on it? especially you, zany. do you think they did the air units decently enough for us to progress in the future for this mod?

Lol. I haven't actually played it yet. Even though I downloaded the demo, I haven't even installed it.
I'm still eager to get through more of the coding overhaul with the mod.

What are the air units actually like? Do they act like aircraft should?

Apparently they don't, or so I hear, I was gonna download it but wireless effed up so nothing. Lame, but I hear from DoWfiles that they don't actually fly, just..hover over the battlefield, like when a speeder jumps, but at the very top, they stay there or something, seems lame, but oh well. I did look up some stuff on it..and the IG bomber looks like a B25 Mitchell from WW2.

If they do that then I might as well just give that to all Skimmers ingame. At least it'd make them actually move over impassable terrain, so that one wouldn't have to do micromanagement.

Wouldn't that make air units useless? And, would it just be for speeders or would it include other units as well? But then that wouldn't be fair, since in theory, all Eldar vehicles would have to be able to fly right? Since they are all skimmers. and then, IG would be owned since they only have one aerial unit, but then again, they do have hydras, and the rest of the races would have these problems as well.

Well lets hope that Aircraft do more than simply hover over impassable terrain & shoot stuff. let's hope that they automatically perform attack runs on enemies & such.

Otherwise yeah, I'd give such a feature to all skimmers. Don't worry though, for all races have some sort of weapon to shoot down skimmers (although Orks will have it off hard due to their crappy accuracy).

Apparently, air units just 'hover' when they're idle, like wtf? They just stand there, like freaking helicopters. You'd think Ironlore or Relic, or whoever had the smart idea of making aircraft would have thought of at least making them land when they're idle.
Is that gonna affect your decision to make them all fliers? That would make sense for the falcon grav tank probably, and the other Eldar vehicles, but I doubt the IG would just stand there, I suppose it makes sense for some vehicles but not all of them.

Ah well. I have yet to really see for myself as I haven't bothered to play the demo yet (it's downloaded, but not installed).
