We are quiet an interesting/specific group of people here on the cinehoundforum.
well atleast interesting for movie collecters

In the "normal" world you dont meet many people that still buy video tapes.
who even still knows betamax/vcc/video2000 or Laserdiscs??
tapes are dying out, I cant even find video tapes anymore in charity shops. and when some are lying in a box, they are tapes of "Friends, Sister Act, Start Trek, Beethoven ...... etc" the cool 90's movies!

Im sure all of us have some or few tapes in their collecting wich you can say of ..... this is pretty rare .... its the only copy I know ..... or its the only video release of the movie on tape ..... or this release has a sleeve that I only saw once, the other releases have something different.

since most of us are specialist in their own gerne, I would be very interested too see some images of you rarest tapes from your collection, and why or what is so rare ..... besides that you dont see it so often

which are really the rarest labels,Italian (like CinéHollywood) or Japanese editions??
I mean only known to be 1000 copies made or less..

Guess Belgian vhs of De Aardwolf (Rob Van Eyck) is pretty rare, but there are a few more rarer,i assume??

A member in here just unearthed an unknown Spanish version of Giallo a Venezia ...I´d sell my soul to own THIS tape!!!

My Japanese version of Nightmare on TDK (sleeve variant) seems to be quite rare, too.

I was looking for more than 10 years to get my hands on an Australian Palace release of Schizo in VERY good condition...

A German release of X-ray on VMP telerent was sold for 3000€ some time ago....

After more than 15 years of hunting I found some sleeve variants of some German nasties this week!!!

3000euro thats some serious money for 1 tape!
who decides on a value like that? .... or is the value just what somebody will pay for it?
maybe the same tape would have only sold for 100euro if the seller didnt know the correct buyers?

no idea what it goes for .... only saw 1 crappy cropped sleave scan of it

Interesting topic. I like how you point out that we are reaching an age where all tapes are rare, Tom. This is so true!

To me, I really feel the film itself needs to be graded for rarity before the VHS should.

For instance, my tape Bocce Cucite is the only one ever made, presumably to show to clientele for sales. It was probably never picked up because the source element they used was a little beat up at the beginning. That the movie is rare, being its' only release, to me, makes it much more valuable.

At the opposite end, you have a Swedish tape of Live Like a Cop, Die Like a Man that has only one copy in collector's hands. But it is cut to shreds. Being that it is cut, and there being so many variations if releases everywhere, makes it so much less of a desirable, TO ME.

Personally, I shake my head at the people who pay big money for a tape that's rare, that they have very little interest in. They simply want what's rare. And so it becomes an idol for them. Something to simply stare at and get some sense of well-being. It's simply something to throw at the pit of emptiness their pregnant with.

I love the fact that we have created a database on cinehound for these movies. Jönas has had a wonderful (Shitty Copy Video, haha) database for years! Tom, I think when you start to make good money, you should do a spaghetti western database. Of course I will finish mine, when I have less work and more time. But it is good to give back knowledge to the fans. Because that's where I think most of us fit in, on this forum. While it's nice to brag about good hauls, it's not why we're here.

Probably Bocce Cucite, Come Cani Arrabbiati, and those two yellow AVO/Fletchers I just sold are my rarest....

this is a pretty rare tape that I have in my collection
A.) its from Venezuela ...... dont see many tapes from their
B.) Movie doesnt has a dvd release
C.) Their is a French video release of the movie with french audio ..... that never shows up .... dont know any other english video release of the movie besides this release

Thats also because I have mainly dutchies, belgian tapes and some italian and greek cinehollywoods, some precerts,an australian media and a danish tape. i also have a russian tape but I think it's worth shit

I presume that my dutch copy of 'to kill a clown' on media is not your every-day tape. I never seen it on here. Who has it?

'Rape' on Eagle6 is a nice one , never seen it as Ex-Rental !!!

and one I'm expecting:
