Vasilis D. is a good friend from the past. We used to watch a lot of horror & exploitation films together twenty years ago and we started our VHS & fanzines library the same time. His big dream was a fanzine of his own. We lost contact but when I met him again a year ago I found out that he had managed to release his dream. PIRANHA fanzine is his baby. A nice looking 'zine in greek language with plenty of reviews, opinions, memories and photos.

"JUSTINE Editions present: PIRANHA, the fanzine that...bites !!"
All articles, reviews etc by Vasilis D.

The first issues were mainly about Italian cinema. Issue #4 (still in "Solaris" shop) had an euro-spy tribute, Jean Rollin, a RETURN OF THE BASTARDS review, modern Italian XXX, and many-many more !!

The new Piranha #6 (double cover below) is available in Solaris & Clip Art stores for just 3 Euros. This issue is mostly about Japanese cinema but also about Greek films. It's dedicated to Anthony Steffen and his friends.

Reviews: ALL MEN ARE BROTHERS, A FORZA DI SBERLE, TO KAKO, SEX AND FURY, FEMALE YAKUZA TALE, TOKYO DRIFTER, YOUTH OF THE BEAST, BRANDED TO KILL, OPERA (Japan), EXORISTOS STIN KEDRIKI LEOFORO, SOUVLISTE TOUS, O DRAKULAS TON EXARHEION

Tributes: Seijun Suzuki, Ursula Cavalcanti RIP (one of my favourites Italian porn ladies by the way!), Zervos & Kotronis (RIP), Jo Shishido, Makiko Esumi, Reiko Ike, Panos Soupiadis (three reviews for "Lordan o varvaros", O feretrakias" and "O kannivalos" by Ursula Stojanovic, editor of "Normal Cult Films" Greek fanzine, a small b/w 'zine about stupid Greek comedies...Well, I don't like it, sorry, and I don't think PIRANHA should cooperate with it...but anyway!)

Photo-romance: LA POLIZIA RINGRAZIA (by Silvio Bandinelli) !!

Well, as I said a great "Japanese"issue !!
Go and grab it before is sold out smile.gif

Some members asked me for more info about the other fanzine I mention, "Normal Cult Films". Hm, this is a very small b/w fanzine, about 4-6 pages each issue cheap photocopied and each one covers just a movie. But editor's interests are rather silly films. Editor use the name Ursula Stojanovic, I don't know if is "he" or "she", but the title for the fanzine should be "Silly Films" indeed. Last issue is #17 and you could find it -along with a few older ones- in Solaris comix shop for 0.30 euro

By the way Solaris has a lot of Japanimation DVDs, some really rare straight from Japan. But...prices kill !! Veeery expensive sad.gif

By the way, I'd like to declare how I hate fucking greek "fans"!
This unique zine does not sell more than 50- 100 copies.
And those who buy it will not even bother to buy those movies.
On the other hand, I know of another greek zine, written by morons who discuss some super obscure asian films in order to tease people and prove they are omniscient.
They keep on adding lines like "you will never find this one!".
These nitwits are so dumb... I know of a specific movie review... they praised that film etc BUT when it was released on dvd here they lost interest at once and started dumping the film saying "naaah! this film sucks...it's even released in Greece!"
3 years ago, a cult dvd store opened downtown. There is NO other store like that. They sell only cult, horror, obscure, weird import dvd's. They have ABSOLUTELY NO COMPETITION. Result? Their business goes to hell and the owner is about to shut it down and migrate!
...Fans...what fans??
I had a full page ad in a new cult fan-oriented magazine 4 months ago. I had also written an extensive article on turkish cult/fantastic cinema. The mag sold over 3,000 copies....Result??? NADA! NOT EVEN 1 EMAIL!!
GREEK "FANS".... HA HA HAAAAAAA!!
HAAAAAAAAAAA HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!

I remember years ago(late 1990's) seeing 'no sales to Greeks' or something similar on the ad descriptions of some well known Greek videotape sellers on Ebay wink.gif

I know I mentioned this to you en an email this summer, lt79, but I find it really really odd that a country that is regarded as ex-rental vhs heaven to foreign collectors has so few fans of these movies. Very weird.
